Decisions of the ISU Council: Stockholm Worlds (March 22-28) still on; Synchro Worlds cancelled; 2021 Grand Prix schedule/Beijing test event announced

Imagine if just ONE, they only need ONE of those 55 to present any indication of contagious, then the whole team must be put on hold and probably wont be allowed to take part of the Championships, devastating since it's the first and most important qualifier for the Olympics.

Russia has tempeted and dared luck all season long, let's pray in the end the 'rona doesn't have the final word

They have all been tested in the last 2 days at Novogorsk, and will have to be tested again before they fly to have a recent enough test. The average incubation period before symptoms is 4-5 days so that reduces the risk.

On the other hand, I'd assume everyone among the Russian contingents have been vaccinated. In Moscow, at least, shoppers are approached in malls with offers to get Sputnik on the spot.

I don't think many skaters will have been vaccinated as they would not have wanted to risk losing training time.
Young people are more likely to have a reaction to the vaccine than older people. Some young people are sick for a couple of days.

Well, all skaters from all countries will fly to Stockholm - with their teammates or training mates or with other people, who may have c19 and may be contagious. At least in this case they can be sure that everyone on the plane is being tested several times.
Even if they were going on regular flight, there’s only one direct flight from Moscow to Stockholm on these dates (on March, 20) - so they would have flown all together either way. And there’s no sense in taking risks with layovers.

I like the idea of one country flying together and bubbling ahead of time, but I'm just trying to add up the 55 people - not sure how many skaters Russia qualified, but a full team would be 18 people + maximum 12 coaches (one per skater/team) + 1 doctor - so that's 31 - are there 24 film crew tagging along?? Also I read that once a skater is done their competition they are supposed to fly out - so is the team just taking coach flights home? Did I also read that there is a Gala - why!??

ISU officials, team leader, massage therapist, probably judges.
Plus, some coaches also have international skaters/teams and will be accredited for those countries (Gleikhengauz - Kvitelashvili, Durnev - Hurtado/Khaliavin, Kustarova - Yanovskaya/Lukasc) but probably will fly with the Russian team.

Do those international skaters get to bubble and fly with the Russians? If not, how is that going to work?

I think back to the US figure skating team/coaches contingent being on one flight and everyone killed in the plane crash wiping out the program/needing to rebuild.

Granted Russia has a lot of great skaters who could also medal - do they have a number of coaches that can fill the shoes of any coaches lost?

A) why are people bringing stuff like this up even as a hypothetical?, and

B) many times huge teams of skaters either by country or by training area end up traveling together anyways. There are only so many international flights to given destinations

There's a big differnce between the entire national team of a small federation such as Belgium's traveling alone and a large team such as Russia's traveling alone. And the risk is so much greater in terms of numbers of skaters, regardless of whether it's a larger number of human lives.

The Sabena crash still looms large in the consciousness of many American skaters, former skaters, and fans. And that was hardly the only crash in which all or almost all of a sports team was killed.

I think raising the subject is a bit morbid, but I do think it is only to be expected on a skating board with so many Americans.

I wonder if this will be applicable to World Team Trophy:

It’s a bit morbid is all you needed to say IMO. And I wasn’t referring to the one Belgian entry and her coach in this situation. I’m referring to camps like the dancers in Montreal all likely being together and/or team USA probably meeting up at a connection point anyways when it concerns long-distance travel.

With a daughter about to travel on Saturday, not the stuff I really want to be reminded about.

In a way, I'm glad the Worlds are going ahead, but I'm also concerned with how many commentators and media people are going. Do they really need that many?

I am a grownup and can write coherent statements without needing your approval of a draft.

It is a pity that you have become such a control freak here. You have so many insightful things to say when you put your mind to the task.
I said IMO, and for one of the very reasons that was pointed out after I posted. Don't like it? Fine. (and let me ETA here- you made an assumption based on what I wrote and you tried to compare 1 skater and 1 coach to larger teams traveling together) Need I remind you of all the times you were straight-up condescending to posters and telling them to look things up themselves, that you weren't going to repeat yourself when you said something 300 comments earlier, etc? Need I remind you about the times you were downright nasty, found out you were wrong, and then rather than apologizing like an adult, you went back and edited the message to not look stupid? Yeah, let's talk about the control freak behavior.

I honestly don't care whether you are looking for my approval or not-- you've shown your supposed superiority plenty enough.

And again- all IMO.

Is anyone actually excited for the skating next week?

Skating needs to start ASAP. We'll become much lighter and happier...until we start bitching about the results and fighting with each other about which of our faves was better than the other person's fave. Oh and the complaining about music. It wouldn't be FSU if it didn't seem like every choice of music was awful.

I’m wondering if the usual NBC gang will be on-site in Stockholm? Tara, Johnny Terry...and Joyce with her extra-long microphone for socially-distanced backstage interviews? I don’t recall reading such details in the NBC-NBCSN announcements.

Yes! I cannot wait to hear about Zhou's << on all jumping elements, the q being used to favor some skaters, the quad ladies pre-rotating and 'cheating', the quadless journeymen stealing top positions with their 1980's jumps, etc. The real important stuff.
