Chris Knierim to retire - Alexa to seek new partner

Don't speak for other people. You have no idea what my or most peoples' opinion is.

People care, it's just useless trying to have that type of discussion in the "US Pairs are perfect in every way" thread.

USA Pairs are perfect in every way thread? I'm not reading what you are in the US pairs thread. Denny and Frazier got plenty of criticism for their standings at worlds that year that we lost one pairs spot. Chris and Alexa has been also criticized for their lack of jumping prowess, (As have practically every other American pair.) Tarah Kayne is thought to have poor lines and edging Castelli/ Tran weren't thought of that highly by a few posters at least. I can go on and on...

The topic now or should be are the Knierims split competitively and Alexa deciding to continue..

I’m sorry I didn’t realize people thought the trash talking was appropriate behavior

I edited my post so you won’t feel included

You’re assuming that they made the call on the first Tweet that US Figure Skating put out. Remember, this was the tweet that was deleted shortly after.

Alexa and Chris were totally off social media after that short program, it wasn’t them ‘upping the drama’.

US Figure Skating knew exactly what was going on behind the scenes.
Yes. That was the information I used.

I assumed it was accurate. I assumed the USFSA was as they should have been accurately representing their skaters in.

I am not defending nor condemning.

Once something is out there....taking it back is like trying to collect the feathers that burst out of a pillow on a windy mountain. Can't be done.

Did USFSA retract and publically correct their statement or simply remove it?

Probably safer not to assume. Certainly someone high up in US Figure Skating knew exactly why Chris and Alexa left Seoul after the short program.

As for the accuracy of that information, well, no, sometimes fans don’t get to know exactly what happened.

You get a public statement, but not necessarily accuracy. Skaters are people with real lives and dramas and feelings but they don’t need to have all of this laid bare for everyone to see.

*Don't get me wrong, I’m not blaming you for taking the first tweet on face value. But there are lots of cases where the public doesn't always know the full story.

Thanks. I and I suspect that RARELY does the public know the whole story.

Okay, firstly, on this post I have no information, this is pure speculation, but, both Alexa and Brandon were at the pair tryout camp in Nashville.

Now, they may have just been helping out with the coaching side of things, but if they did want to chat about a private tryout, the opportunity was there. They already know each other well from their time in Colorado too.

That said, I love Haven and Brandon so I’d love to see them back at full strength.

When was this pair tryout camp? I searched for it to no avail. I am curious, though.

I’m not sure, it ended on Saturday. I know Chris K posted something on his Instagram story about going to Nashville. Another juniors skater did similar. But I’m not great at Instagram and the stories disappear.

If I had to bet on it I’d say Friday and Saturday.

I was at Ford Ice Center on Friday to watch. 12 men and 22 ladies were invited to the tryout. Alexa, Chris, Brandon Frazier, Danny Neudecker, Mark Ladwig and Kyoto Ina were on the ice helping the skaters with death spirals and sbs spins. Skaters also did off ice lifts. Justin Dillon was there taking notes. Meno, Brubaker and Zimmerman were just some of the coaches who brought skaters to the tryouts and were watching closely. It was incredibly interesting to watch. I had a conflict on Saturday so I couldn’t go for the last day.

I’m sure it’s not a secret but Megan Wessenberg was there looking for a pairs partner. She had a good death spiral. I was impressed with how fast she picked up the pair skills. She was listed as not having pair experience.

Wessenberg going for pairs?
Isn't she a bit tall?

TSL did a 20:00 minute video on whom should Alexa pair with - The discussion centered around Novosalov (sp?) [Stolbova's ex-partner], Danny, Brandon, Tim and TJ. No mention of Nate.

Dave broke it down by skater: Novosalov apparently can skate with anyone because he dealt with Ksenia. LOL. But, a huge wait for citizenship is a minus. Danny would bring good SS but is limited by size on the throws and twist. Brandon is stronger on pairs elements and can jump better than Chris but apparently is devoted to Haven. Tim is probably the best, but he is part of an already successful partnership. TJ is noted as too immature and probably wouldn't do well with Alexa.

Nina Mozer is noted as a consultant for the USFS and has no fear of breaking up pairs. What role would she play? That is asked in the video.

None were really ideal politically because they would involve the break-up of a top pair or a Russian partner that would have to wait years for citizenship.

Well, I am envious. It does sound incredibly interesting to watch. Thank you.

And thanks to everyone who provided answers to my question. :respec:

I listened as well. You wrote a beautiful summary. But you're much nicer than DL.

I'm pretty sure Brandon and Haven are dating. But even if they weren't, I can't see them breaking up.
He didn't really seem to think any of them were that likely to split and partner with Alexa (talked about it again in today's video). More just discussing possibilities, etc and who would fit if they'd consider it.
