No. SB Top 24 only guarantees 1 GP. Same with WS Top 24 (and even that isn't necessarily the case - both Caldara/Maglio & the Mokhovs were in the WS Top 24 at the end of last season, but neither got a GP).

Oh yeah, what am I thinking. Altogether there’s only 48 slots in Pairs for all six events, if they pick the top 24, that would take all 48 slots with no excess choices for host spots, and other entries.

I know. :) I was going through the ISU bios last night and was surprised how many other pairs fell under the new ISU maximum age requirement.

Congrats to Deanna Stellato-Dudek on taking the Oath of Canadian Citizenship earlier today! :cheer: This happy news is posted in 2 threads in GSD.

On the topic of citizenship, Korovin just got his Philippine citizenship. The pair is still pretty far from qualifying for the Olympics, but at least that's one hurdle down. They are expected to represent the Philippines at the Asian Winter Games this February.
I also posted an article link in the OAS News thread in GSD on Dec. 4: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ters-news-articles.108762/page-4#post-6696978
If the country's president "does not veto the bill, Korovin will officially become a Filipino 15 days after the publication of the signed law in a major newspaper."

Oh, hell no. Once you medal at the SENIOR GPF or at Euros/4CCs, you have ZERO business competing at Jr Worlds, even if you are age-eligible.
I'm okay with it. Skating is insanely expensive and I'm all for skaters earning whatever prize money and show money they can.
In speed skating this happened- the American Jordan Stolz who is the best speed skater in the world said he went to Junior Worlds (and got all the medals of course) mainly for the money. Because speed skating is not a lucrative career and he needed to support himself. His parents are just average middle-class people. We always complain that skating is only for the rich, don't we? I'm not saying M/B are in this situation because I don't know, I just think that if the ISU has no problem with them competing then give them the benefit of the doubt that they're doing it for good reasons. And being from a small fed I would suspect they could use the money.

Doesn't matter. They are taking away opportunities and income from junior skaters who are truly at a different stage of their development. If you win a medal at a major senior level event, you are winning a lot of proze money already. Don't be greedy and take it away from those skaters coming up behind.

Re-posting from the OES news thread -
Kucianova/Bidar have split and Simioli/Zarbo have retired due to injuries, so no Czech senior pairs teams at this time.

Yeeeeeesh... Hopefully Barbora will be able to find a new & better partner. And that Martin will just retire and stop splitting up promising junior pairs teams.

Aleksandr Korovin article in The Philippine Star (Dec. 23, 2024): https://www.philstar.com/headlines/...-figure-skater-granted-philippine-citizenship
Republic Act No. 12115 signed on Dec. 20 granted the figure skater Philippine citizenship with all the rights, privileges, prerogatives, duties and obligations attached to it under the Constitution and existing laws.
Korovin will take the oath of allegiance to the Philippines to be registered with the Bureau of Immigration. The bureau will then issue a certificate of naturalization to the athlete.
During a hearing of the House justice committee this year, the Russian figure skater vowed to give his 100 percent in his training and competitions for the Philippines. He also expressed desire to bring pride and honor to the Philippines and to train Filipino children.

Thank you!
Kinda unpredictable seniors podium, but I think the real prize will be the CTES minimums most of them are after. Let's see if they all show up in the end. Korovin just had to fly to Manila for his citizenship oath, but the pair has been training hard in Sochi over Christmas.
Very excited to see if McIntosh/Z can build on their good performance at Nationals.

No. SB Top 24 only guarantees 1 GP. Same with WS Top 24 (and even that isn't necessarily the case - both Caldara/Maglio & the Mokhovs were in the WS Top 24 at the end of last season, but neither got a GP).
historically, if a pair gets assigned least one GP pre-season, are they very likely to get a second during the season due to all the withdrawals?

It really depends on the season & injuries to other teams, etc.

It's not like there's a plethora of pairs teams. If they're good enough to skate at both, go for it. Save the tears for your pillow.

I am unbiased because I am definitely rooting for METELKINA/BERULAVA to miss the podium at senior worlds this season.

1) Junior level competitions are supposed to be developmental. A senior team who MEDALS at the GPF, Euros, 4CCs or Worlds is already well beyond the parameters of the intent & purpose of competing at an ISU junior competition.

2) There are 25 junior age-eligible pairs teams apart from MetBeru who already HAVE the Jr Worlds CTES mins. The current projection for the # pairs teams at Jr Worlds is 18 (due to entries being limited to 3 max per country), however there are 11 teams competing at Bavarian Open who are trying to achieve the Jr Worlds CTES mins, one of whom (Vouillamoz/Bouvart SUI) already has the Worlds CTES mins, so they should easily get the Jr Worlds CTES min, which would bump us up to 19 teams minimum. Realistically, there are probably 2 other countries with entries who may be able to earn the CTES mins (ESP & SVK), which would give us 21 pairs teams at Jr Worlds.

3) I know that 18-21 teams may seem like a tiny number to you, but it is remarkable progress for the discipline and shows that countries are growing more competitive in it.

There's no need for a ringer team like MetBeru, who already won Jr Worlds once, to come back and take away prize money as well as placements which determine Jr Worlds & JGP spots for the following season from other teams & countries, especially when there are ZERO other teams from Georgia, at any level - sr, jr, adv novice - who would need competition opportunities.

I have no tears on my pillow - just a very consistent position on this particular subject. I criticized the JSF for sending Kao Miura to Jr Worlds a couple years ago after he qualified for the GPF and won 4CCs. I'd give the USFS some major side-eye if they sent Alysa Liu or Isabeau Levito to Jr Worlds while they're still age-eligible.

Agreed - Kviderova/Klement, Moudden/Garcia, Pazienza/Knorr and Heckova/Valky seem to be within reach.

I looked at the results from Spanish Nats and I think it's doable for Yudin/Rossi Lopez also - their TES there was higher than Moudden/Garcia.

I don't think it's at all doable for Jurisic/Savenkov based on their results from Austrian Nats though.

Wilberforce/Berei - possibly? He was able to earn the Jr Worlds TES mins last year with Nora Roethenbuehler; so if Lily is a stronger partner, they may surprise us at Bavarian Open.
