I think TPTB and the fans in Japan would be WTF?? if Conti/Macii didn't get the nod.

I'd forgotten that Levito is/is likely not participating. Then, I revise my comment: the Japanese Fed and TV people probably don't care who the first or second Italian, French, US, or Canadian woman is. It's a showdown between Japan and Korea.
True - same logic says they won't care who the 2nd Canadian man is, lol.
For the exhibition, I'd invite Schott, since they'd have an additional potential spot if they invite Hendrickx and Fear/Gibson.
The problem with Schott is that she was a total non-factor on the GP - she finished 20th in the standings.

They could decide to invite one from each discipline - Vasiljevs was 13th in the GP standings and Britschgi was 20th. Efimova/Blommaert are the highest ranked pair still together at 12th, but I'd probably invite Golubeva/Giotopoulos Moore instead, especially since they won the JGPF.

I think the recency of Worlds in Japan might have more influence than the WS lists or the GP standings. Since the GP was so 2022.
Well, in that case, I'd definitely invite GoluGM for the exhibition (who were also invited to skate in the Worlds gala and had a tremendous reaction from the crowd this week). ;)

I just can't see them inviting Schott when they've got Loena probably on speed dial, and Men is clearly the most popular discipline in Japan. Vasiljevs has a fan base and is coached by Lambiel, but Britschgi's on the rise.

I know that Levito is really exhausted from her season, but I wonder if instead of being so competitive, she lets go and just enjoys skating it will help her end the season on a good note? At the same time, if she's injured, it's best to let her rest. It's just that the audience really responded to her at the gala, and continuing to build a reputation with the audience will be good for her future.

Please invite Deniss.

I'd like to see them invite Miura over Tomono - I love Kazuki, but Miura won 4CC and Jr Worlds, it would be nice for him to have this as a reward of sorts. Actually surprised they didn't include Miura at the Gala.
Miura is the 5th Japanese man down in the WS - Uno 1, Tomono 7, Kagiyama 10, Sato 12, Miura 13, Yamamoto 15 - that's why I expect it to be Tomono.

They featured up and coming Juniors as opening acts for the two halves of the Gala.

Sota has been the 2nd Japanese man all season internationally, even placing 2nd at GPF. It's sad that he can't get to redeem himself at WTT after a weaker Nationals / Worlds. I wonder if Yuma is feeling healthier?

Well every team participating certainly cares considering it’s the event with the biggest prize money in the entire skating calendar.

 Not Frau speaking for everyone else yet again like we all share the same opinion.

The USFSA used to do this each and every year right after Worlds, too. And after the Grand Prix. And before the Grand Prix. And any other random time they could fit into the schedule.

The WTT is a favorite of many skaters, and it gives them an opportunity to compete in a different atmosphere without the pressures of Worlds.

Just noticed that @aussieSKATES posted the ISU's March 27th WTT press release link in the wrong thread: https://isu.org/figure-skating/news...eam-trophy-in-figure-skating?templateParam=15
Japan leads the six countries that qualified for the ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating (April 13-16) in Tokyo (JPN). The host country that has their new World Champions Kaori Sakamoto, Shoma Uno and Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara on the roster will be joined by the teams from the USA, Canada, Korea, Italy and France. The ISU World Team Trophy is a biennal event.
Following a successful season and ISU World Championship, Japan tops the standings with 9453 points. The USA follow with 8721 points. Canada collected 5978 points to rank third. Korea stands in fourth on 5477 points. Italy qualified with 5260 points while France has 3943 points. Korea will take part for the first time in the ISU World Team Trophy.
The Announcement says entries by name are due "by Thursday March 30, 2023 – 20:00 (JST), local time Tokyo / JPN."

How are audiences, outside Japan, for these events?

No, the figure skating season ends in June with the much-awaited Hollins Trophy International. And we also still have Wolmar Spring Cup (7-8 April), Triglav Trophy & Narcisa Cup (12-16 April), Thailand Open Figure Skating Trophy (1-4 May), Oceania International Competiton (15-17 May) and Mexico Cup (16-20 May).

Is this true?
No.

The ISU's press release today (linked in post #53 above) states: "The USA has not yet announced their team, but newly minted World Ice Dance Madison Chock/Evan Bates, World Pairs silver medalists Alexa Knierim/Brandon Frazier and World bronze medalist Ilia Malinin as well as Jason Brown are expected to compete."

Thanks to Karen for crunching numbers for her projection, which correctly came up with the six qualifying countries.

The official order and point totals of the six qualifying countries have slight differences from her projection.
The reason is that for the points received for ISU Championships, Worlds results take precedence. Results from Four Continents and Euros don't count (even if the points gained would be higher), unless there would be zero points from Worlds to fill a box.

The wording from the WTT announcement is: "If Skaters/Couples of an ISU Member have not obtained World Standing points in the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2023, then it is possible to use the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2023 respectively the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2023 and if needed the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2023."

I have amended Karen's table to show how the official point totals add up.
