Agree @Wyliefan, Soho is quite lovely with nice posture for her age! She looks very promising.

But why do the USA coaches allow their junior skaters to wear partial over the boot tights in competition??? :duh: It just kills the effect of her beautiful dress and Nutcracker ballet music. And I love her tulle ballerina skirt.

Dallas Classic Junior FD

report in skate order (music IDs are not my strong suit) ETA: Nailed the music ids not being my thing. :shuffle:

Stanley/Sosnenko: Nice skate to dramatic music. Liked her blue/green costume. Good effort.

Larson/Young: (partially to masquerade waltz ETA but see below, masquerade waltz was S/S; L/Y had the swing piece) lovely aesthetic positions in their dance spin. Program felt new, and they can give more expression as they become more comfortable with it

Epps/Gilman: (think it was a swing piece ETA see below, Bruno Mars, sigh) spacing issues to work on, particularly in twizzles. They counted a fall, can't remember on which element. Both have nice expression. I think this was the team with a cool spread eagle moment, too.

Philips/Anderson: nice dramatic beginning, but had an error and had a harder time recovering. Seemed really into it at the beginning, though!

O'Brien/Wei (interesting piece of music, at one point, it said "Sigmund Freud, analyze this!"). Counted a fall. Some fun danc-y moments.

Neset/Markelov: POTC :cheer2: (ETA: I am confident POTC was in this piece!) Fantastic dance spin with good control, dramatic moves, sword play, a lift a lot like H/Ds over his head--she ends it in a lunge and I would like them to hold that moment a little longer. Seamless integrated movement with good edge quality and performance. Look ready to go for the international season. :respec:

Peal/Peal: Dramatic music per usual. He had to abort his twizzles. Good elements, otherwise.

Hauer/Starr: (some old-fashioned being in love piece) Smooth glide through their movements. A cohesive whole with well-skated elements, could maybe use a highlight move or two.

Pham/Rogers: Asian piece, I think Turnadot (ETA, but see below). Great finesse in their body carriage throughout the twizzles, which covered a good amount of ice. Excellent posture. At the end, I felt like the music had started to overpower them and hope they can continue to build performance stamina throughout the season.

Bland/Sperry: "The feeling begins"-esque music. He had a little trouble on the twizzles. Elements looked good. In-betweens need more speed and depth of edge. Bland did great with the dance breaks part of the program--maybe they could incorporate more of her dance ability throughout the program.

Great beginning to the season!

Assuming they haven't changed their music since the Chesapeake Open, it's a James Bond medley - Die Another Day and No Time to Die.

Did you see who is coaching Phillips/Anderson?

Are they running way behind already? I wanted to watch the pairs before Big Brother comes on lol.

I believe the Cactus Classic event times are listed in Arizona time (currently 3 hours behind Eastern time) - Junior/Senior Pairs SP originally was scheduled to start at 9:25 pm Eastern and should be on after the ice resurfacing, which is happening now.

The two junior pairs are warming up right now. It seems like there is a heck of an echo whenever the announcer speaks, I hope it doesn't happen with the music as well! I'm wearing headphones so it's either mute or migraine in that case, lol

How ridiculously dedicated figure skating fans are we that we're watching an early summer US pairs comp with a total of 4 teams between junior and senior, and one of them is only planning to compete the SP?

I told my mom she probably didn't want to watch, but I also just put off looking through pictures for my dad's memorial service to watch this... I did just spend an hour with her on the deck enjoying dinner - and have a new best dog friend for life after I gave their dog 5 huge chunks of my steak, lol.

The whole broadcast is a big ole echo, it sounds like the camera is picking up the arena sound, and the music is looped into the livestream at the same time. Mute it is!

I like pairs 🤷‍♀️ and plus I pretty much have nothing else to do. Unless it's cleaning. I guess I could do that, but then I'd miss the skating.

Interesting debut for Rivers/Rensing. I see some potential there. He's got a little bit of star quality to him. Music - well, I recognized "All That Jazz". ETA 33.94 score

I think the start is Le Jazz Hot.

Baram/Tioumentsev kept blah blah cha cha

Baram/Tioumentsev kept blah blah cha cha
And it was a blah blah skate. Errors from both on their SBS jumps (unless they intended on doubles), she doubled the throw (or was that also intentional)? She had a really interesting leg variation on the death spiral. They're a nice team, but I expected more out of them this year on the technical side, and I just don't see the long term potential in the pairing with the age increase going into effect next season.

OMG! Nearly had a moment! So much for "unlimited data" from AT&T - turns out, if you use more than 3GB in the month, they slow your speed down. Jerks. Thank goodness my mom is now letting me use her mobile hotspot! Wessenberg/Eisenach had a nice senior debut and I saw most of it - he stepped out of their SBS triples. ETA - music is a female cover of "Stand By Me"

Ohh I forgot Arizona doesn't do the time change. I saw it was Mountain time zone and just assumed it was one hour behind me.

Messy season opener from McBeath/Bartholomay. Crashy twist, both missed their SBS jumps, she hit a nice triple throw though, and a difficult death spiral entry. Music is "Your Heart is Black as Ice"

W/E - 53.01
M/B - no score announced - they did the same to B/T in junior pairs

Looking at the competition results page - B/T scored 55.17 and M/B 52.89 - seems about right for what the teams did.

ETA - B/T intended on doing 2As and they did, they just weren't good.

Tioumentsev landed his sbs 2A fine; she stepped out. The required SP solo jump for Junior Pairs this season is double loop OR double Axel. The throw 2F looked intentional - they started working on throw triples in the off season. 55.17 is a very decent score for a season debut - protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2022/30663/SEGM007.html
Rivers/Rensing's SP music was to "Le Jazz Hot" (from Victor/Victoria) performed by Julie Andrews.

Senior Pairs SP protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2022/30663/SEGM008.html
Wessenbeg/Eisenach skated to a female cover of "Stand By Me" (ETA that it was the Florence + the Machine version, thanks @Amy L); I couldn't hear the blues-y lyrics of McBeath/Bartholomay's song clearly enough to ID it.

Ahhhh! That explains the 2As from both teams! I was scratching my head at that, but it makes more sense. Planned elements on the live results page shows a Throw 2Z, so they switched it to a 2F, no biggie.

For those interested, Day 2 of the ice dance events is about to start, beginning with the Juvenile FD (there's a 3rd Carhart sister! They skated their FD to music from the Cinema Paradiso film soundtrack).

ETA that scores are not combined for these dance events at this competition - link to yesterday's Junior RD protocols (debut for Zoe Larson/Andrii Kapran - he's from Ukraine & she used to be a pair skater): https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2022/30386/SEGM060.html
Junior FD starting order/results: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2022/30386/CAT041SEG083.html

ETA:

Carhart/Horovyi's FD music is "Another Love" by Tom Odell - I enjoyed their performance, as well as Z. Larson/Kapran's (perhaps to a Ukrainian song in tribute to his homeland?).
Koncius/Shchepetov's FD music was to the W.E. film soundtrack by Abel Korzeniowski.

There's a 4th Carhart sister competing and she won the Juvenile Girls FS!
