2015 - 2016 TV Season

I don't think I've ever seen this before. Rookie show Blood & Oil was pretty much dead from the get-go, only a matter of time. Yet it kept on airing, and rather than making any last ditch attempts to build ratings, get a reprieve or get picked up by another network, it accepted its fate. On the finale show, they actually wrapped the whole thing up like it had been no more than a mini series - every plotline was resolved, every relationship repaired, and in the final scene, the lead character was literally staring happily into the sunset.

I'm sad it's gone as I did enjoy it in an old fashioned nighttime soap way, but I am glad that they didn't leave us few fans hanging like so many cancellations do when they either don't air the final episodes, or leave the storylines open.

Yeah, like the Dallas remake.

I DVRd it Sunday night; haven't watched it yet. I guess that will be it, huh?

Just saw the first TV ad for the X-Files. :cheer2: Is it January 24th yet???

The only time (why was I home on a Friday night?) I ever saw the original was some storyline where somebody was brushing their teeth or something (hey, it was how many decades ago) and there was a bunch of blood or their teeth fell out or an alien came out of their mouth or something while they were looking in the mirror. I think they were just dreaming? But I broke out in a cold sweat every time I brushed my teeth for awhile after that!!!!! Shudder. I'll be turning on all the lights before I brush my teeth tonight!

AGREED! I didn't watch the show but glad to hear how they ended things. Too many cancelled shows leave you with terrible cliffhangers.
I'm still annoyed by the ending of Season 4 of The Glades that I watched on Netflix. It was a bubble gum with a less than rosy ending. Now I always check what the faith of the series is before I start watching.

Here's a complete looking list of January premieres/winter premieres. Unless I missed something, there's no POI on the list and it didn't look like it's scheduled for February yet either. (I'm surprised that Chicago PD returns a couple of weeks before Med and Fire since Med and Fire are already behind anyway since they started late) http://tvline.com/2015/12/18/tv-calendar-2016-january-premiere-dates-finales/

Fire and Med both return on January 5th but are airing in each other's time slots that night due to the three show crossover that they're doing with PD right after the holidays (it all airs in those two days but the main story starts on CF so it's airing first). Both shows return to their normal time slots two weeks after that which is January 19th (the State of the Union takes up their times on Jan. 12th). You must have missed that on the calendar because it is listed that way on there. :)

Yes, I missed that, thanks. (Why was it listed twice though? Not that it matters, just confusing). Didn't realize they were returning with the crossover. Looking forward to it though!

I'm pretty sure they were just trying to make sure everyone knows that the two shows are swapping spots on Jan. 5th and then going back to their normal slots the week after the State of the Union Address. I guess it does look slightly confusing but most fans of these shows are all ready in the know about the small schedule change. :P I'm SO looking forward to the crossover episodes too! This one may feel the most organic of all so far since they're finally getting the hang of it and it feels a lot more natural than it did when they tried them in CPD's first season. :cheer: :biggrinbo

I don't like these Chicago show cross-overs because I like the characters on Fire and Med, but I really dislike the cops on PD. So I never record the latter show so I can avoid their negativity. Hope I don't end up missing much with the upcoming shows... :(

Yes, that first year I was wondering why there needed to be a crossover. Even when they crossed-over with L&O SVU there really was no need for any of the characters to be on the other show and it was barely a crossover the first time Fire and PD crossed over. Same with the first triple crossover (Fire, PD, SVU). Fire barely had any of the other characters.
But that last PD/SVU crossover was my favorite crossover (other shows included) simply in terms of how it was done. That's how all crossovers should be done, not two episodes and characters appearing here and there but all the characters thrown together as if they were all on the same show.

Is anyone watching Making a Murderer on Netflix? It's a documentary series about the Steven Avery case. I'm on episode five and I've been binge watching with a friend all day.

I am so horrified. First - the original case. It was so obvious that they ignored evidence that suggested he didn't rape her; and an innocent man spends 18 years in jail for it. Another woman is sexually assaulted because of this. Avery's finally released, gets a lawsuit that's going well and suddenly a woman who is missing appears dead in his property? Evidence found by the same cops he's got a lawsuit against? His mentally handicapped nephew was so obviously coerced! And I don't trust Brendan's lawyer for a second - the investigator was just awful and why wasn't he there for his second interrogation with the cops?! I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist but I don't trust cops for a hot second and there are just red flags all over the place. The tampered blood sample? The calls about the car plates? I don't believe Steven did it. I can't imagine the pain that family must be going through. Their lives have been destroyed.

Two things -

She's a Good Skate, Charlie Brown is on Monday, 12/28 at 8:30 ish on ABC. It's never advertised, but it is the second half of Happy New Year, Charlie Brown, which is cute enough, but it's the skating episode that is worth DVRing, which I have saved but will watch Monday night too. I think we have discussed this before - how Charles Schulz's daughter was a figure skater and he used real jumps and spins consistent with the level Peppermint Patty was skating at.

And, number two, can someone explain to me what the big deal is about A Christmas Story. People watch marathons of it. I've heard the references to the leg lamp and the tongue stuck to the pole and "you'll poke your eye out" for years. So, I watched it for the first time last night. Not impressed. What am I missing? The neighbor's dogs bits were funny. And the kid stuck on his back like a turtle in the snowsuit. Other than that......(I watched it from 9 to 11 p.m. At least I stayed awake.)

Do I need to watch A Christmas Story 2? I guess Ralphie is grown up in that one? Maybe the two brothers won't be whining and crying about everything all the time.

Charles Schulz was also responsible for building the rink in his hometown.
Many shows/events have been held there.

I never liked "Christmas Story" either.

I was mildly amused by a few of the bits in A Christmas Story the first time I saw it, but it doesn't bear repeated, annual viewings. At least not in my view.

A local theatre company staged a musical version of it this season. I don't know if that would make it better or worse.

I thought I was only person in the world who hadn't seen it and loved it (not that I actually KNOW any of those people). But, OMG, I DVD's A Christmas Story 2 and it was so much better! Except for the cussing father and another mean Santa, the story was much more interesting and funny. Maybe because they were teenagers. Not that I am going to watch that one ever again either..............

I've never even watched it all the way through. The bits of it I've seen just don't look appealing.
