I was just wondering the same about Mitchell.
He took a major step forward last year in getting a solid 3A, while his jump technique and consistency had improved a lot. It seemed like he was really ready to get to the next level.

But we cannot know someone's personal motivation or circumstances. I also wonder what role the quad explosion this cycle is playing on athletes' desire to continue. Unless you're an artistic phenom, you're pretty much nowhere without a quad in the short and 3 in the long, pretty much.

Nic needs to get the SC spot, already. He looks ready. (other than he seemed like 100% winded with a minute to go in his long. Needs reps)

We'll see....I believe I saw Mike Slipshuck limping around during the men's short.

There's no rush for him to decide so I'm not actually expecting an announcement any time soon.
Let the summer comps and a few Bs happen before you lock it in.

Looks like Joseph Phan also managed a quad toe loop in Junior Men's long as well. Good prep for Junior Grand Prix.
Phan skates his "Godfather" FS in Quebec starting around the 35:45 mark: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5wp1gz
His jumps: 4T+2T (13.2 pts), 3A (9.1), 3Lz / 3Lz+3T (12.31), 3F(!), 2A+1Lo+2S, 3T, 3Lo.
FS scores: 79.63 TES/68.80 PCS + 2.00 Bonus (4T & 3A) = 150.43.

If anyone wants to watch Skate Ontario Summer Skate/Thornhill Senior Men SP RIGHT now (the live stream is not being archived): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5x0ddg
Skate order of the Canadian men: Nam Nguyen, Keegan Messing, Josh Allen / Roman Sadovsky, Bennet Toman, Stephen Gogolev.

Link to the competition thread in Kiss & Cry: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...o-summer-skate-aug-17-20-in-thornhill.101694/

ETA:

Keegan Messing landed all his jumps (like he did at Skate Detroit last month where he scored 84.56) - 4T+3T, 3A, second half 3Lz - and won the SP (84.91). Kudos to Lance Vipond for making "Singin' in the Rain" such a great vehicle for Keegan!

Don't know if it was just the zoomed in camera, but it looked like Nam's speed has improved slightly.

Patrick Chan debuted "Dust in the Wind" (original version by Kansas) at a small club comp. in Rochester, Michigan yesterday
Ooh! This the first time he's actually landed two quads in a SP, right?

I was there for the LP and I would say 'slightly' but nothing super noticeable. He didn't look slow though.
Has been having problems with quads this summer. Last comp wasn't good in that respect as was the case here. Warmup wasn't any better.

He's thinking a lot still when he skates, so we'll probably see more energy unleashed once his quads come back.

It's such a shame that Canada missed 3 spots for Korea by one placement because I really like what the guys are putting out this year. I look past consistency issues at this point in the season and imagine what the skates could be like come nationals. Through that lens I think Nationals is going to be an awesome competition with some outstanding skates not qualifying. Packaging and content across the board is really strong. Kudos to the boys.

A side note on Gogolev. He had a really bad fall on warmup. I was just looking up as he hit the ice so I'm not sure on what element, but I think it was 3A. Down hard on right side. He hurt arm/wrist and possibly rib area.
The rest of his warmup was really shaky and he skated first. Somehow he had an amazing skate. A lot of the athletes in the audience were standing in response.

I don't know what the future holds for him because he doesn't hit JGP until next fall and the technical landscape is changing quickly. And he has a growth spurt coming. For now, his two programs are outstanding and I hope they keep both for next year, frankly...because people need to see them. His awareness of arms and body position is improving rapidly and he pulled in 160. I believe he's skating senior at nationals. Would be too funny if he finished second, which with all the talent we have I couldn't rule out at this point.

It's so crazy to me that Stephen is required to compete senior at Canadians this year, yet he's not even old enough to compete junior internationally.

I really hope his upcoming growth spurt doesn't impact him too negatively.

As for Nam, when I was watching, it was frustrating. When he skates you can see his potential for power, but you can also see him holding back on it. It's so completely visible that he's making himself not skate with speed. I just want to smack him. And bombard him on social media with 'why the hell don't you work on your speed' comments.

Patrick's SP was beautiful! Loved the knee slidey thing into his final spin. Also, it looks like he has more attack going into the 4S than he did last year - his confidence in that jump must have improved. Gorgeous 4T3T. And I thought he had that axel.

At work now, and just seeing the post about Patrick's Dust in the Wind program. I will wait until I have a chance tonight with no interruptions, and will pour a big glass of wine, and watch it then. :inavoid:

I wasn't thrilled about that music choice when I first heard it, and I still think there could be better things, but that is beautiful. I'm going to miss him when he retires :wuzrobbed.
My thoughts exactly :wuzrobbed

I like where this is going. During the opening section of the program/music I was like "OMG is he trying to go full last-season-SP-Caro?!?" The not-so-typical program construction fits the music (and Kevin, IMO). Go, Kevin! :cheer2:

Oh my Goodness!!! Falling in love with him all over again! Whatever happens with inconsistency, not landing jumps, etc., I am beyond grateful he has returned to skating and I am ridiculously grateful I get to see him skating live again this season!

ETA - and since when does Patrick have TWO new programs - let alone in an Olympic season when so many are re-using programs?
