U.S. Ladies [#29]: Skating with Adjusted Vision

I hope some of the higher-profile senior skaters choose to participate in the ISP Points Challenge. Selfishly, it's so I can have some figure skating to watch, but it does seem like a good opportunity to get some early-season feedback on your programs and be in something more like a competitive...

    U.S. Pairs 2019-20 season - News & Updates, Part X

I have to say, usually I understand USFSA's Worlds decisions even when a lot of other people have complained about them, but this does not make sense to me. The SkatingScores link above about mean scores from this year is interesting, but I just don't buy that there's a big difference among any...

    U.S. Ladies [#28]: Achieving 2020 Vision

I get Bradie wanting to do 4CC for a chance to improve on her skate at Nationals, but I also worry about her tiring herself out. Hopefully she has enough time to come down and back up in time for Worlds. I mean, I'm no expert, but I totally buy that a 4Lz and two 3As is harder than...not...

    U.S. Ladies [#28]: Achieving 2020 Vision

I agree that Courtney has been underscored (and think a fair amount of the criticism about her lack of skill and artistry was really just about her body type). Unfortunately she's also tended to mess up at Nationals after strong GP and Challenger showings, which is a big reason she hasn't made...

From Russia with Love [#34]: Autumn 2019

Wow! When did Mishina/Galliamov beat Savchenko/Massot? ;) (I know, don't feed the troll, but if you're going to troll at least use real examples.)

Which Three Russian ladies would you like to see on the worlds 2020 team?

Trusova for sure, my gut (bias?) says Kostornaia, and then one of Tuktamysheva, Medvedeva, or Zagitova. I voted for Liza though because it would make me happy.

    U.S. Pairs 2019-20 season - News & Updates, Part X

Well, it's possible for two things to be true at once here. Ashley and Tim deserved to win AND their scores were quite generous IMO. But, without a doubt, they are continuing to improve and come together as a pair. I think there's a good chance they'll stay the US #1 team for another year.

    U.S. Ladies [#27]: A Time to Reboot

I'm also not sure this year's goal is a spot on the Worlds team. I think making Nationals, and skating relatively well there, would be an enormous accomplishment. Sometimes it's not about the biggest, flashiest outcome, it's about feeling like you're making progress.

From Russia with Love [#33]: Summer 2019

TBH I find it pretty weird and almost disturbing, rather than fascinating, the way people are becoming fans of a coaching camp. I mean, people were having meltdowns because a skater in "Team Tutberidze" didn't have as high PCS as they thought she should have in a single short program in an early...

    U.S. Ladies [#27]: A Time to Reboot

I don't mind the idea of more test skates for junior competitors, but I do think you need to leave room for skaters who do well/medal at a JGP to get another JGP, since that rewards their performance within the same season and gives them a shot at qualifying for the final.

U.S. Pairs 2018-19 season - News & Updates, Part IX

Wasn't she "too old" to start skating pairs in the first place in her thirties? If anyone can start over with a new partner it's her.

The Dance Hall 6: We're All Off Our Rockers 2018-2019

This season, for whatever reason, I've gone back to loving the well-executed complicated acrobatic lifts. McNamara/Carpenter are a great example, not just the RD one mentioned on the last page but also the stationary lift in their FD was quite striking when I saw it live. Hubbell/Donohue FD...

U.S. Ladies [#25]: Method in the Madness

I love when she acknowledges that recovery isn't a magic wand, it's a process. I love seeing her intelligence and humor come out. I hope she will continue doing the things that make her happiest and healthiest.

Coughlin's family speaks, shares perspective on SafeSport investigation

No, you shouldn't wait for an indictment, or believing you have enough for an indictment, to act. In the professional world, the moment an allegation of serious misconduct is made, that person goes on administrative leave while an investigation continues. It's incredibly difficult and stressful...
