The Dance Hall 13: When You Dance on the Ice and Your Feet Twizzle Twice, That's Amore

This website has a list of songs with a waltz tempo of over 186bpm.

There are some interesting options and teams could really go in a lot of different directions with this theme.

Yes, skaters & coaches reading this - please, check out the link and sample all of these songs!
Give the people what they want: Lawrence Welk!

I don't expect LFB/GC to compete past Worlds and I also think G/P, C/B, and G/F will retire.

So looking forward to seeing what the rest of the field do with this particularly Lala, Z/K and L/B.
I agree G/P C/B and G/F will likely retire, but I would not be shocked if FB/C decided to do a “victory lap” season next year. They’ve only had one season together!

I likewise expect the LaLas to ace the waltz; they are one of the few that I think might have the necessary technical skills.

Nothing against f/g or anyone else, but passing dance tests does not mean people will do well with these patterns. The bar to pass is quite different from doing it in a competitive way.

More than tempo I think teams that aren't used to skating in close hold or having to hit certain beats (which I guess can be slightly tied to tempo but not completely) will have issues
I agree on both these points. And the Golden Waltz pattern is tough. But I want to see what people do before deciding any skaters won't be able to handle it.

Holy moly! I hope they make the skaters do the entire golden waltz and not butcher it like they way the butchered the pattern during the dying days of the SD. That last midnight blues pattern gave us nearly nothing of the actual compulsory dance.

I hope they make them do the whole thing and judge it like they did the last time it was an SD. Ding teams that take short cuts and don’t do steps correctly outside of the whatever portion was being called.

Like if a Ravensburger Waltz calls for a chassé, then ding teams who don’t actually do one, even if they’re like the top of the field otherwise and even if that part isn’t being called or judged.

It’s true that Emilea didn’t learn patterns as a single skater.

But it’s also true that all her dance experience is with Vadym, she’s learned to fit his style, way of skating, advantages and limitations. Nothing had to be redone or relearned. Without making it too Pygmalion, she will learn the waltz steps as Vadym does them and Igor coaches them, with no other knowledge to undo.

I think we already know that it's not the whole pattern. They are starting at step 34 I think then back to the start and up to step 20 (that's from memory - someone correct me if needed). We looked it up and think it misses the dip.

I definitely agree it needs to be judged on proper definable Key Points and not just on GOE.
This is what happens when I got too excited about seeing the words “Golden Waltz” that I skipped the fine print. Oh well, better than nothing I guess.

I wish the ISU decided that the RD is where traditional ice dance with close holds will happen, where there is more emphasis on steps and continuous choreography and the free dance can be Dancing with the Stars or whatever it is they’re going for.

I'll be interested to see how many of those guys even end up going to Prague, because I feel like you could make the "why would they?" case for all three.
I know Guignard/Fabbri have said they’re going to wait a couple of weeks before making a decision on Worlds, but I saw pictures of them on one of the post-competition open practices with some of the lower ranked teams, so I guess for them at least it’s still genuinely an open question.

Since I’m going to Prague, I hope they stick in for a few more weeks. :)

34 to 20 covers half the rink (so about half a pattern-ish) which I honestly think is a good starting point. I truly did not expect 2 full patterns to be required or anything lol. A full half pattern of this dance is still a lot of work.

IIRC Italy only booked the additional practices once post Ice Dance competition and that was yesterday. I guess they did to rehearse a bit for the Gala. Also given the spent part of the practice session faking curling matches with Bekker/Hernandez.

They should do one more year just because I know Babs loves the pattern dances  .
