So I learned recently that I get MAX free through our cable system. Over the weekend, I did all the sign up stuff and decided to start watching The Pitt with Noah Wyle which I had heard about but figured I would never get a chance to see since I didn't have MAX. I am happy to report that watching it turned out to be a VERY good choice since I blew through all seven of the available episodes just in time to watch the new ep tomorrow. I absolutely love it! It's such a great show and I'm already growing attached to this cast. They are all SO different but I love how well they work together (the head nurse is my favorite person) and their stories are all so fascinating. So happy that I finally get to watch this show and can't wait for the new ep tomorrow night! :cheer:

What all would you guys recommend for me to check out on MAX? I've become more picky with some of my TV choices lately but I'm curious what you guys are watching on this streaming service. :)

Besides the recs I already gave 😉 I also loved Succession, but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Also The Leftovers is fantastic. I devoured it over a couple of weeks. Sex Lives of College Girls is a fun watch on the comedy side. Oh and Hacks! How could I forget Hacks. Great comedy with real depth that keeps getting better every season.

Related to TV, I had seen my Paramount+ subscription is due to renew, checked the price —about $10/month add-free paid annually, which is the same I had now. Tried a few coupon codes, no luck. So just for the heck of it, I clicked on cancel subscription and it popped up and offered me 50% off.  I accepted, of course, and it’s noted as first year subscription, which is odd. Hopefully it works but we’ll see. I’m prepared to argue if it doesn’t since the system offered me the discount and told me it was applied. There is a lot of content I watch on Paramount so I really do want to keep it.

I started watching the Gabby Pepito documentary on Netflix, I had once seen a Youtube documentary on it.

It's so weird how the cops treated her when the couple was stopped roadside :scream: and the misogyny of the cops.
I guess in the US you are even ***** if you are a pretty white girl as soon as you're accompanied by a white guy.

Getting him a hotel room and sending her off alone to sleep in the van?!

Drive to Survive Season 7 trailer has dropped (out March 7):

some thoughts:

  • They're really gonna play up the "title fight" between Norris and Verstappen. It wasn't really a fight.
  • They're going to address the Horner scandal, obviously.
  • If you ever start feeling sorry for Norris at any point, remember that in Miami when he won his first race, in the press conference after he was asked about the Orange Fcukface visiting his garage, and he said it was a great honour and "you have to respect him".
  • The Danny Ric farewell episode is going to be terrible, but I also have a sinkingly horrible feeling they're going to pretend Daniel was doing as badly as Perez, which was just not only not correct, but it was not possible to be doing worse than Perez.
    [*]
On the flip side, it looks like Logan Sargeant is simply going to be erased. I don't know whether I'm annoyed that the cruel way Williams treated him won't be covered, or relieved that it will hopefully prevent yet more hate being sent his way.
  • Speaking of cruelty, that terrible shot of Flavio Briatore telling poor Jack Doohan that he controls every move Jack makes is even more sinister in light of the way Briatore is teasing that Colapinto will replace Jack before the season ends this year - before his rookie year even starts!
  • The inclusion of Zak Brown saying "a team has to work together" makes me think that Oscar is going to get a villain edit - he's obviously not the team player, or that Hungary was a pity gift.

We have Peacock, Disney+ and Paramount+ and we use them constantly. We have HBO Max but we don't use that as much, mostly for John Oliver's show.

And Drive to Survive is here. Some thoughts below the cut:

- The drivers who departed are not treated with much respect, not even Daniel, to whom the success of DTS must chiefly be credited. But worst treated is most certainly Logan, who is subjected to a montage of crashes/errors as supposed justification. However, one of the incidents shown was a technical glitch, one was another driver's fault, and despite the depiction that Logan was the only Williams driver to crash, both his more experienced teammate Alex and his eventual replacement Colapinto racked up higher damage bills.

- The rookies are treated somewhat curiously. Ollie's spectacular stand-in job for Sainz at Jeddah is not mentioned, and his only appearance shown is Brazil, whereupon he is scolded for going off-track too many times, somewhat unfairly. Kimi's testing is not shown, and it looks rather like Toto has plucked this child out of obscurity to go into the Mercedes seat. And very little of Jack's background is given, only that he is a reserve driver for Alpine. I suppose they are saving much of this stuff for next year's series, but even so.

- Despite the fact that DTS lost access to Max for years after depicting him as the villain in S1, it seems Netflix could not resist the urge to do so again. Max is shown as being unhappy that Norris wins a race (in real life Max was thrilled), that he grows distant from Norris, that he takes Norris out. The reality was very different. Personally, I think Norris comes across as bratty and unlikeable, but I dislike him anyway.

- One might be mistaken for thinking there was only one McLaren driver for most of the series. Again, the series chooses to largely ignore Oscar, at least until they cannot and it becomes plot-relevant. Even then, Oscar is given a close-to-villain edit, as if he did anything wrong in Monza.

- I'm glad that Brazil got shown, even if it could still have been shown better. For most F1 fans, Brazil was no less than one of the greatest wet-weather drivers of the modern era.

- They had to walk a fine tightrope with the Horner allegations but it's evident they felt they could not shoot the golden goose, especially in light of the fact that Steiner and Ricciardo will both be gone from the show.

- The Singapore episode had promise with the concept, but didn't commit hard enough to the footage taken by the drivers. A go-pro might have been better. Also, given we were told that Norris was, therefore, the only person with footage of Daniel leaving the paddock for the last time, it was very disappointing that this didn't surface.

So……is it finally time for me to add Disney+ to my Hulu? Or should I consider AppleTV, HBO+, or Paramount+? Or NAH, save my money? 😆
There are multiple opportunities to get some free months of Apple TV+ and they do have some excellent shows. You could subscribe for a couple of months and watch them (Ted Lasso, Shrinking, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, Disclaimer, The Greatest Beer Run Ever (something like that), documentaries like Fathom and The Year Earth Changed, as well as some 90 minute shows with Tom Hanks.

I found Visionaries on the Roku Channel. Keanu Reeves and Gard did a series of documentaries on people who are doing unique things in their fields. The first episode is a guy who is 3D printing rockets for space. The engines take 2-3 years with existing processes. This guy can print one in 2 months using designs that normal manufacturing can't create. Very interesting series.

ETA: I binged the episodes and it is part advertisement for their Arch motorcycle company. Which is fine. They put up the money and time to visit all these people and film conversations with them. Plus it's streaming on a platform free to me. I can live with some self promotion of their product. They spent a lot of time talking to people about their creative process who aren't in jobs that would necessarily be called creative. Very fascinating set of people all throughout. I enjoyed it.

Finished S1 of Paradise this weekend. It was an uneven start, but overall I was hooked. Eps 4 and 7 were exceptional.

Glad it got a renewal, sounds like they are aiming for a Jan 2026 drop

Episode 7 was one of the most anxiety-inducing hours of TV I’ve seen. But it was fabulous!

Also available on Amazon Prime. My next binge.
I think it’s through Prime but actually on Max. You might want to check costs. I got a 50% off deal for the ad-free version of Max directly from Max.

ETA: I just looked at the Prime Video app on my iPad and The Pitt shows as available with a subscription to Max for $9.99/month. If you can, you might be better off subscribing directly from Max and checking for any discount codes.
