U.S. Ice Dance 2022-23 news & updates

Great article about Flores/Desyatov! I feel very invested in this team and I’m not entirely sure why. I just want to see them succeed.
Same! I was invested even before seeing them skate at Challenge Cup, just knowing a little of the bitter disappointment Isabella went through and following her on IG since that time. And then, as soon as I saw them skate, I was 100% on board.

I do too. And it’s strange but whenever I see their names I worry about what became of Tsarevski. What we knew wasn’t good.
Same! Flores & Tsarevski had so much potential, and were more talented (IMO) than the current crop of new seniors trying to make a name for themselves. I see a lot of the same qualities in Flores & Desyatov, so I’m very hopeful!

I feel the same. I hope we will get answers at one point since I still worry. And I hope that she got an answer or explanation at one point. I remember them posting how they were best friends and to feel so betrayed by your best friend that you never ever got at least closure most have been so hard on her.

Who is coaching Isabella Flores and partner right now?
Who is coaching Isabella Flores and partner right now?
Logan Giulietti-Schmitt was with them at Challenge Cup.
Elena Khalyavina Dostatni, who with partner Maxim Shabalin: JGP Final (2000-silver) and (2001-gold) and World Junior Championships (2001-bronze) and 2002-silver) is their coach.

... and to feel so betrayed by your best friend that you never ever got at least closure most have been so hard on her.

When all communication from her partner and best friend was abruptly cut off, it naturally was extremely upsetting to Isabella. :(
It was a devastating loss of her partner, her best friend, and the opportunity for their partnership to compete at 2022 Nationals and beyond.

But I do not think Isabella ever used the word "betrayed." As terrible as the consequences were for her, I do not think "betrayal" is among the things she felt.
Isabella did not know what was happening with and/or to Dima, and she expressed a lot of love and compassion toward him.

ITA- I read everything posted of what was going on & it was clear her fear and panic was over his well being first and their skating partnership was secondary. She certainly did not feel he was in a position to call any shots or choose his future.

IceChallenge entries are up! As we anticipated, Cesanek/Yehorov are assigned, which gives them a bye to Nats. No alternates listed.
I sure hope C/Y will have a stellar showing here compared to the disappointing FD at Nebelhorn which caused them to drop to dead last 🫣

yes, I think this was what made an impression on so many of us. I think I worded it wrongly -English not being my first language - I would still think that she would feel somehow betrayed but more like from fate probably? And I admired her how strongly she seemed to cope with what must have been a devastating loss and fear.

It still feels like a book where the last few pages have been ripped out and I hope we will know what happened someday but maybe it is not our place to know...

Clip of Flores/Desyatov's new RD to "Tiburon" by Proyecto Uno:

Molly had an emergency appendectomy a few months prior to their Nebelhorn competition. I'm sure her stomach muscles were still tender.
That could very well be an issue for her 😔 I think her surgery was in July, which caused them to have to drop out of Lake Placid.

Interesting... USFS just added Bratti/Somerville to their Int'l Assignments for IceChallenge - it's not updated on the ISU entries list, but I'm glad for them since they're the only one of the middle tier teams who only have one GP to not have two Challengers.

Practice footage of Madison Chock/Evan Bates new Rhythm Dance. It looks hot and sultry! I like this take on David Bowie's "Let's Dance."

That was a shaky RD from Chock/Bates. Maybe they should have done a Challenger to warm up for this. I like the dance though and hope that they skate the program better in the future.

Doing a Challenger seemed to help Hawayek/Baker because they skated their RD much better than their first outing with it. I saw more speed and confidence.

yeah that was not great from C/B - they seemed really flat?

My latest on Hawayek/Baker, ahead of this afternoon's free dance:

Among other things, they talk about the rules changes in the rhythm dance.

After SA, I think the Gold and Silver at Nationals are tied up now! Seems like a battle for Gold and a battle for Bronze then
I don't think silver is locked in. Let's see how Lindsay looks next week. I'm hoping she can bounce back from her disappointment at Finlandia.

Well they do actually. Their FD at Skate America was the winner and they were amazing! They missed gold medal by less than a point. Should have been the gold medalists, imo
I agree but I’d also say that they deserved higher goe as other teams such as F/G get just as high scores with L2 footwork - meanwhile Kaitlin and Jean Luc were only able to get those scores with L4 one foot steps (have we ever seen this so early on in the season?) and level 3 steps.

G/F had all L4s in the FD at 2019 IdF, which was on 1-3rd Nov that year, so fairly early in the season but not the first GP like Skate America this season.
