My experience, while sitting in the audience, is that no one cares who was upbeat the day before while slogging through a bunch of sleepy programs. (This is especially true for the ladies' free skates). We're generally much more grateful for a fast-paced or entertaining FD or LP to break up the monotony.
My other experience is that usually the final flight is exciting regardless because of the medals on the line.

Well I love Christina and Anthony since they broke into the senior scene and think they should've placed higher in some of their previous events. This years rhythm dance for me seems like a step backwards. I'm all for trying different things, trust me I really am more than a lot of people. But this program seems Junior to me

I think there could be some changes made but it's still early days - but I think they'll grow into it more as time passes. (I also think the sound and lighting at the event didn't do the costuming any favours - Christina's costume might be better if it was more shiny?). I think this will be a season to improve at every outing for them (I feel like with Igor this didn't happen as much - they went out the gates very prepared early and the scores didn't grow much over the season).Well I love Christina and Anthony since they broke into the senior scene and think they should've placed higher in some of their previous events. It's probably wise for them to have the disruption of a coaching change (where they've said there is a totally different philosophy) during this season so that they can get any growing pains out before the next quad. I always wonder what would've happened this quad if H/B had moved in the offseason for 2017/18 season instead of 2018/19 - they maybe would have seen more upwards movement in the international ranks.

I was underwhelmed by CarPon's RD but despite that I felt a surprising lack of fear when Anthony was twizzling so there is that. I think he could do with a haircut and shaving off the facial hair. Somehow it just feels out of character with their costumes and program.

Curious what seems junior about it to you? Keep in mind that it's very early in the season and that Lombardia is such a bad venue to debut programs in, The lighting is yellowish, the sound is horrible and the feed quality is also pretty bad. They are listed for Finalandia where things will probably look better (and sound better...).

Yep, theirs as well and even posted about it in the Lombardia thread about 30 minutes ago
MJ Numbers to me are always a safe bet to give to juniors as they're learning what works for them and their styles. I don't feel these are sophisticated enough programs for seniors or for someone that's going to the Olympics
As far as CarPo I mean Batman? If someone tried giving that to me as a grown adult going to the Olympics they'd be fired on the spot and walked to their car by security.

it really is such a contrast to Boston - I hope US Classic stays there as I thought the Lake Placid event looked great - so bright and airy looking

Spider-Man kind of worked for Boyang but keep in mind I'm someone that loves the Michelle Kwan era where every year she skated to some original unique piece of music I've never heard of. That's more my jam

I liked Guin/Fabbri. It was fun exciting, full of positive vibes. S/K couldn't pull off Jackson last season, there's nothing easy about pulling off that vibe. IMHO, Car/Pom, just need to get a personality, they don't seem to have one atm, they take in from their coaches, they may be good students, but I think they just need time to find a point of view that is theirs.
I didn't know C/P were using Batman as their RD theme, and was super intrigued to watch. Something different, something character-driven, okay. Alas, then I watched it. Ponomarenko's expression is completely wrong. Yes, Batman can be campy, but Batman is played straight. Go watch Batman the Lego Movie and see how serious the character is played. Instead of suave and deadpan, we get an "aw shucks" campy grin to start. Doesn't work for me, but could with some serious adjustments.

I think they are lost in blandness even though I like their FD. But they just scored 6 points less on it than G/P did at Cranberry-Lake Placid. Imperfect comparison but still.

I think they had way more interesting elements than they (C/P) have had in the past - but given their bv tech score here really isn't too bad - this programme is hurting and hindering them.
The scoring at Lombardia was pretty wild, they were missing 4 points in PCS compared to their usual scores when they are showing improvement in all of the catagories. They also had decent BV but the low GOEs got them. In a more friendly setting, I think they will be 6-8 points higher. Let's see what will happen with them at Finlandia.

With almost every team Scott and RH just seemed confused by the scores. Not a season to be confused by the scores. Sigh.
It's a senior B event that had only European judges in the panel and a strict technical specialist. They were baffled by the scores but mostly the deductions that so many teams got. Fabbri/Ayer got 3 points deduction, 2 of them for illegal elements and their stationary lift got base level, they performed this FD twice before (2021 Quebec Summer Championships, 2021 Skate Canada Challenge) and didn't get that kind of feedback, which is why these teams do these senior B events in the first place.
If they will get scored this badly at Skate Canada, then it will be time to worry.

yeah but it's still an international outing where you can get a feel for how the programmes will be received internationally, where you still need to build your confidence, where you figure out where you need to boost GOE scores

Team IAM knew that Hurth and Fermi have a reputation of being extremely picky judging wise. I have seen Haguenauer argue with Hurth so many times. She’s the hypercritical judge you invite to your training camp to give you feedback at the beginning of the season. Fermi is close to Fusar-Poli! Notice that Igor S does not send a lot of teams there. A lot of these extended lifts calls are very questionable.

Fabbri and Ayer are not going to Skate Canada Challenge. There were judges on the panel as well that are known for cheating. Canada has a fair qty of top seniors in dance. F/A were not chosen for the national team and this could be their only event.

I would like to see Wolfkostin/Chen against Flores/Tsarevski at an international event.
Anthony & Christina looked uncomfortable in the RD but their new FD shows promise (even if the judges did not seem to like it). I see improvements in their skating (since their coaching switch). They are skating closer together and the connections (between them) seem more difficult and intricate. I see this season as a building season. It's always a difficult gamble (changing training environments) and it takes time to learn new technique.
I think they will be in a new situation when some of the top US teams retire (presumably after this season) and Anthony & Christina find themselves in the position of being one of the (remaining) top (US) teams.

I particularly liked Molly and Yehor at Lombardia. I've been following them for a bit ever since I first saw them at SA last year. They scored well at the FD (8th), but it was only enough for a small rise in placement overall to 13th.
They will be in a new position, and they need to do the work now to be able to fully take advantage of that new world. Otherwise, other worthy young US teams will pass them by. I think these new programs are making C/P stretch in ways they haven't before, and that's a good thing.
