Alena Leonova had a birthday party last weekend that was attended by Dima and a bunch of skaters. I shouldn’t be shocked, based on the cavalier attitudes we’ve seen from skaters and coaches so far. She doesn’t seem particularly remorseful, either...just says that she herself feels fine.

I know what it’s like to feel young and invincible, but if I was a high level athlete with the most important competition of the season coming up during a pandemic, I think I would care a little more about protecting myself. And who knows how many more there will be. I also realize there is social pressure to go to banquets and parties and whatnot. But you reap what you sow.

Well, I think the most important thing in all this is that you feel morally superior, so I'm glad that's taken care of...

Google translated excerpt:
The Russian Figure Skating Championship will be held at a maximum of 35 percent of the capacity of the Traktor ice arena in Chelyabinsk, the organizing committee of the tournament told RIA Novosti.
The Russian Championship will take place on December 24-27 in Chelyabinsk. The capacity of the Traktor arena is 7,500 spectators.
"The stands will be filled to 35% of the arena's capacity. In total, about 2300 tickets will go on sale, one thousand of which are already on sale. The price range of the first wave of sales is from 400 to 1000 rubles. The second wave may be more expensive," organizing committee.

Time to go back to my notebook to try to work up a heartfelt ballad rhyming Chelyabinsk and Minsk again. One day I will make this work.

Well, maybe they were wearing masks when not taking photos, and besides.....yolo man. Yolo and with the way this year is going the 31st Birthday Bash may never have happened...sigh.

And Liza Tuktamysheva is also most likely out of RC event #5

Aleksandr Kogan:
Yes, most likely, she will miss the Russian Cup event in Moscow due to illness. C19? I am not authorized to say such things

UPD: She tested positive. So did Aliev

Kogan expects upcoming figure skating tournaments to be held without tightening measures

The Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) expects that the next competition - the fifth stage of the Russian Cup in Moscow and the national championship in Chelyabinsk - will be held without tightening measures due to the coronavirus. The director general of the organization, Alexander Kogan, told TASS about this.
“Some of the athletes have had coronavirus, someone has already recovered, someone will now miss the stage of the Russian Cup in Moscow due to injuries. But everything is going as planned. We hope that the number of cases of infection in the country will not increase and there will be no tougher measures for the competition," Kogan said.

Gulyakova and Kolyada are also out. At what point do we start calling the Russian GP a superspreader event?
Never. This is Russia. Pity I would have thought our athletes would have made better choices. Can they? Very disappointed.

I think it’s the reason Kolyada and Gulyakova are not going to Moscow for RC event

But taz’smum just said Gulyakova is still training, and Mishin said Kolyada is still jumping quads. Maybe we have different definitions of what “quarantine“ means...

It takes some character to negotiate life in the era of XYZ. My respect to those who know their worth far exceeds a medal.

I thought it had to be 15 minutes of close contact to count as an exposure that requires quarantine. Certainly a dance partner like Jon would qualify but there could be other circumstances where someone at the rink got it but others who skate on different sessions wouldn't necessarily have to. Like when there's a case in a school the whole school doesn't have to quarantine, just the students in the immediate vicinity.

It seems that a lot of them is sick, but in reality it is still quite a tiny percentage. Considering we know roughly 20 best ladies (all those who qualified for the senior nationals plus a few best juniors), 20 best men, 15 dance couples and 15 pairs, that’s suddenly 100 skaters. Some of us know even more of them. As far as we know, only Kozlovski, Galliamov, Zahorski, Morozov had the C thing. Medvedeva, Scherbakova, Sinitsina/Katsalapov and someone from Stepanova/Bukin’s group has been ill (it was never clarified who), but it is winter and people are ill every year. I can’t see it that much different than any other year.
That's the thing Hanca. This happens all over the world in the fall and early winter everywhere people get colds flu pneumonia and so on. I've been trying to take vitamin C and vitamin D everyday as I'm heading into a cold spell here in Florida.

Why are the Russians having this massive covid-19 monia problem amongst their skaters is it the same with Japan and the American teams?

Well they just had the grand prix event with spectators. Practically no protocols were followed during the gala and banquet so we have what we have...
That is very risky business bird. I had the air conditioning guys in my house today and they start on the outside and work in the garage first I asked them to put on masks when they came inside because they were not going to.

I don't understand why anyone would not wear a mask I had someone bring me cookies on Thanksgiving and she had a mask at the front door. I live in a pretty small town in Florida and our high school is like number 10 in the state for covid-19. I'm wondering how in the world is as possible since like 99% of the people in this area wear a mask when they go out.
