#TeamTrainwreck 21: Ride until the fantasy ends!

I think it’s a bit funny to see how things are right now, 6 years after all that I/K/S/Z drama (6 years already ).
Now both Elena and Ruslan are openly supporting SinKats and have admitted it in press and on social media for several times.
And at the same time there’s definitely no love lost between Elena and Ruslan.

As time flies, you get another perspective on the events of the past.
If there’s one thing I can be sure about I/K is that they were even in their strengths and flows (both on and off the ice) and pretty much deserved each other.
ITA there were no (((((poor X)))) parties in the entire switch, except maybe Ruslan, but probably not even that. I suspect there really never is. We have no idea what goes into partner dynamics and it's never only one thing or simple.

I would argue a bit more but that is just extending the topic so maybe we should talk about something else. Does anyone have music ideas for next season? Has a pair/dance team ever skated to the soundtrack for Dr. Zhivago? It seems like one must have but I've been on and off with skating so nothing comes to mind. I can't remember what I was watching or reading that prompted it but I thought that could be a cool program idea. Although at this point I just hope there IS a next season and if the only way to have it was all the teams doing polkas for the RD and jazz hands for the FD I would just be happy to see them and accept it.

Awwwwww. How can you not love Aliev and Rukavitsin? Rukavitsin's reaction to Aliev's Euros win was one of my favorite moments of the season. :) If only Glinka were there, too!

Wikipedia says Shpilevaya/Smirnov skated to Dr Zhivago too, with some Frank Sinatra lyrics.
I don't recognize
:lynch:

Lara's Theme

"Lara's Theme" is the name given to a leitmotif written for the film Doctor Zhivago (1965) by composer Maurice Jarre. Soon afterward, the leitmotif became the basis of the song "Somewhere, My Love". In 1967, "Somewhere, My Love" won Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Chorus, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.

:COP:

Davankova & Enbert skate to Doctor Zhivago for their free in 2014/2015, their only season together. I was really annoyed when he left her for Zabijako but it was the right choice In the end. She did very well for herself skating with Deputat, Enbert and Shibnev.a great selection of skating’s hottest talent. Sadly her luck ran out when it came to marriage ?

Smirnov looked much better back in those days on the JGP. What year did PetTikhs skate to it?

Mulholland Drive is another good soundtrack, very atmospheric. I googled (minimally) but don't see any programs to it.

eta: Zhuk let out a heavy sigh when she saw S/S's scores in that clip, sort of hilarious. I liked that dance a lot.

Sorry, didn’t mean to imply that the Ilinykh/Katsalapov split was all “poor Elena” and “awful Nikita” - it takes two to tango. I was just referring to the messy split itself.

Who cares about her sport efforts when she achieved that? :smokin:

And yet she had all three of them and still passed them all up for Henry VIII. Make it make sense.

Now you guys have me wondering who my dream pairs/dance partner would be. I can't decide whether to shoot for the moon and just decide based on pure hotness or to really think about who I might be compatible with stylistically. As there is no shortage of time to think about it :( I guess I can really consider my options for a bit before making a final decision.

Shoot for the moon and go with pure hotness, ? guaranteed to be auto-stylistically compatible. ????

In pairs, it’s Radford, Han, or Klimov for me. They’re the only three men in the world I would trust to catapult me into the air while standing on sharp blades over a cold, hard surface.

For ice dance, I’ll go with Cizeron because he’s ridiculously sexy and he won’t break my heart.

1998-99

All this "Lara's Theme" stuff is getting to me. :scream:

I might have to listed to some "Carmen Suite No. 1" as a palate cleanser. :)

I really enjoyed that skate from P/T. I was a big fan of theirs and think their skating still looks good today. I thought they were finished after SLC but they bounced back for 3 more worlds medals. I would have loved for them to get a Olympic medal, they had a very good chance in Turin but didn’t skate their best. I came across this exhibition skate from Worlds 2002.

It’s good to see that Lyudmilla Velikova is still going strong over 20 years later.

I was never that crazy about P/T, but that gala program of theirs is probably my favorite of anything they've done!

Petrova/Tikhonov were pretty fabulous right when they burst onto the scene in 99. But then Tikhonov's stamina starting dropping more and more each season, and the programs and skating progressively got slower and more labored. (To their credit they did upgrade their lifts late in their career) Didn't help that they couldn't come up with a LP that was effective at the "Four Seasons" one.
