FSU Watch Party: Sunday, April 5, 2020 1pm CDT/2pm EST/7pm UTC - 1995 World Figure Skating Championships Ladies Long Program

Fantastic performance here from Yokoya. So solid. The LP she had at 96 Worlds was significantly more interesting and unique than this one.

I think she dealt with injuries over the quad. She went from a Grand Prix finalist in 1996 to finishing off the podium and behind Rena Inoue at 98 Japanese nationals. :(

From where I’m sitting watching on TV, her dress reminds me so much of Kwan’s Romanza dress.

I’m also glad she’s skating to an appropriate costume for this program. I’m reminded of that Krylova/Ovysiannikov pro routine to this and their costumes...:scream:

This is like a preview to her 1998 “Ah! Natasha” long program. That’s actually my favorite Irina long program.

This program seems super heavy from what I was expecting. I thought I’d see some more uplifting moments. Her jumps are huge though. So much spring in them.

So much raw talent from Slutskaya here

Kind of disappointing her team couldn't come up with anything other than another folk program for the 98 season.

These costumes from 1995 make it clear to me that we were transitioning from what we were seeing in the 1980s and even early 90s. Most of the bling came from the Japanese skaters who even now like shiny costumes.

This music would be perfect for someone like Josee Chouinard. Not so much Lavrenchuk.

But the speed and lutz is always fun to watch.

Yeah, back then, people did things based on what their competitors were doing, which made things exciting as they all tried to one-up each other.
