I watched a mystery series set at a Scotland newspaper in the 1980's called "A Field of Blood." I enjoyed it and had forgotten just how sexist the workplace could be back in the day. I also miss typewriters. It was on Prime.

We love British police/detective shows and basically most things from the U.K. Our favorite is "Vera". I suggested BritBox to my husband but he said the reviews of it were terrible. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I have Britbox for a while now and have never had a problem. I like the soap operas and get to see them the same day they air in England. I also like the classic comedies.

Netflix is now showing Tuesday’s British episodes of the new season of The Great British Bake Off each Friday. It is great that we (in the US) only have to wait 3 days to see the current season instead of being a year behind.

That is great, but I was so disappointed last night to find out that I could only watch one new episode. I was ready to binge the entire season.

Me too! I was all set for it to go to the next episode, but then another season began playing. I was quite surprised!

Yes. But now I'm mad. They killed a character I liked. I saw it coming and almost didn't watch the episode.

I hope there will be a season three because the cliffhanger ending was most interesting.

Finished Dark Crystal. For those who are on the fence or still have nightmares, I have three words:

Skeksis. Bathing. Scene.

In all seriousness though, it’s a beautiful series. The puppetry is well done and the CGI is nicely integrated. The voice talent is great. And Nathalie Emmanuel and Lena Headey made me cry (I won’t say whether the ending is happy or sad except that it was a much better resolution than their GoT characters).

ETA: the soundtrack is great also. I can see it being a good choice for first year seniors. Only quibble is that it doesn’t include the song Taron Egerton, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Anya Taylor Joy sang at the end of episode 6

Watching Godless.

I love two of the actresses on this series, Michelle Dockery and Merrit Wever. The women-centered story and themes are interesting, but the story is otherwise all over the place and I'm finding it a bit difficult to follow.

Loved "Godless" and you can see MW along with Toni Collette in "Unbelievable" on Netflix . It opens on Sept. 13. It looks good. As for "Godless" I was also impressed with the men on the show; Jack O'Connell, Scoot McNairy and especially Jeff Daniels. I thought the story compelling.

I'm a fan of Phoebe Waller-Bridge for "Killing Eve" and now I'm adding "Fleabag" to the list of shows worth watching.

Kudos to Olivia Colman for her portrayal of the smiling, awful "Godmother." Waller-Bridge and Natasha Lyonne are trailblazers.

I am watching the Russian show Detective Anna on prime, I doubt anyone will be astonished to hear that I am super obsessed with it (although I found it after trying to watch Gogol, because its premise sounded so ridiculous that it was awesome, but I had to give up because it was just over the top violent, so I dont just like ANYTHING Russian, ok).

I don’t know if anyone else watches car shows but Hyperdrive on Netflix is a whole lot of fun. It’s basically American Ninja Warrior with cars. The commentators are cheesy but the drivers have a lot of personality and they did a good job with the obstacles.

No---I'll check it out. I watched a bit of "Mindhunter." Having lived through the BTK years here I'm left to wonder why men hunt women. It happens all of the time seemingly everywhere. It's depressing. SSSooo maybe I'll watch a silly movie next.

I recently finished both "Good Omens" and "Cannery Row" on Amazon Prime.

The casting of "Good Omens" was perfect. The chemistry between David Tennant and Michael Sheen was off the charts. I think I'm going to be watching this one a few times. (For a little bit of fun, see if you can spot Benedict Cumberbatch's cameo without looking it up. Hint: His role is voice only.)

I enjoyed Carnival Row a lot, and can't wait for season 2. The world building was top notch, and Orlando Bloom and Cara Cara Delevingne actually had decent chemistry. The murder scenes that Bloom's character was called to investigate were exceedingly grisly, however, so if that sort of thing makes you squeamish I would give it a miss.

I'm also enjoying "Pennyworth" on Epix, although it gets a bit TOO grisly at times for my taste (and I'm not remotely squeamish).

I watched an episode of Mini Cuisine: The French Tiny Kitchen on Prime thinking it was about cooking for one---which it is if you are a gerbil. It is literally food prep in a teeny tiny kitchen with teeny tiny utensils and a big human hand. I laughed all through the show.

However she doesn't enter until the second episode so I want to record this about the first: Kaitlyn Dever is going to earn rave reviews and acting accolades and hardware for her performance. And this is apparently a true story. Good God.

Really enjoyed “What We Do in The Shadows” on Hulu. I liked the movie but wasn’t sure how it would work as a TV show. I think having different characters was a good idea. I think the 2 parter with the gang partying with the Baron + the council, with the original cast resuming their roles, were my favorites.

I know Phoebe Waller-Bridge is one busy woman these days, so I wonder if she'd wait another 2 years to do a season 3.

Unbelievable was excellent.

Agreed that Kaitlyn Dever is phenomenal. I expect lots of nominations for her.

But I also loved Merritt Wever and Toni Collette. I expect nominations for them too.

Unbelievable was one of the most powerful shows I’ve watched in a long, long time. I worked with a lot of women who survived sexual abuse and this show described the response to it better than anything I’ve ever watched. Kaitlyn Devers was incredible and Merritt Wever and Toni Collette were also fantastic.

I also loved how so many of the characters looked just like regular people.

Just watched the Netflix movie “Tall Girl”. It ended up being a cute and a tad too corny high school movie.

Slight nitpicks: I get that the average American women is what, around 5’4”, but is 6’1” really that obscene for a sixteen year old girl? Also, are the Swedes really that much taller than us?

I feel like Netflix is trying to fulfill the need that was supposedly left off when the “Made for TV” movies were dropped by the major networks in the 1990s.

I've been watching Tubi as there is so much content out there not on the major streaming services. I watched a good doc on the history of the Joffrey Ballet, "Casanova" with David Tennant and Peter O'Toole both as Casanova and am now starting on the musical "Romance and Cigarettes" as I am a fan of James Gandolfini, Kate Winslet and Mandy Moore among others in a stellar cast.

I finally watched Fleabag... I went into it with a slight negative bias just because it has been so highly hyped and that tends to annoy me, but it is really deserving. The first season was good but the second season was really spectacular - the hot priest storyline was everything it's been said to be and more. It's interesting because Andrew Scott is an actor that I didn't like in Sherlock - but he was absolutely perfect in this, and he had to be for the storyline to work.

Also a bit on topic with your previous discussion as Phoebe Waller-Bridge is very tall!

YouTube tv offered the pilot episode of "Impulse" free. It was well done but it was yet another offering of a confused teenager with super powers she has trouble controlling.
