I hope Zhulin is not restricted from traveling in the US at some point due to concerns about federal crimes.

very classy....I like this style.. plus her face looks like Elizabeth Taylor..:D
ha... for me, first reaction was "Loretta Young"!!

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...t.jpg/220px-Loretta_young_studio_portrait.jpg

I digress to say that although I'm sure the routine is for fun and 'sexy' is fair game for FS show numbers, I'm bothered by it having recently read about what life used to be like for flight attendants (which is what they are called now) - previously known as stewardesses. They couldn't be married, could only work when young, and although they did not strip, were expected to be sexually attractive to male passengers and were often subject to unwanted touching..

You're actually not too far off from the reactions (to Tuk's striptease-skate) on the Russian stewardess' blogs/chats.. Quite few did not like it at all, with comments, in a nut-shell "we have enough trouble handling drunk passengers, and now this..". One younger flight attendant said ( :D ) "if this progamme was skated in america by an american girl, the feminists would start a campaign and drown her career, and she'd be apologizing till the end of the days, getting a crew-cut, wearing overalls, and going to pee in a man's bathroom, beating her chest to prove she is not "a sexist". Then an older woman said "she is young, let her have fun, she'll grow up and laugh about it".

... Japanfan, just FYI ..."stewardess" in Russian is not offensive, there are few songs glorifying "stewardess" in a romantic sense... with rhyming lyrics "stewardessa = princessa" ( с ) Vladimir Vistotsky...)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mU_RL_xRbY

... and one more "Stewardess named Zhanna (my best loyal friend during a flight, loved and admired, you're my angel, my dream, my savior, etc..)"

I like her very much. Have ever since I first saw footage of her from Skate Detroit during her debut senior season. Her tribute to Denis during the gala at 4CCs had me in tears, and I was not the only one.

Speaking of which, this doesn't belong in the Russia thread. I can never remember what the abbreviation is for obscure 4CC competitors.

Tursynbaeva has a Russian citizenship too, dual. She was born in Moscow and her parents although born in Kazhakstan, for many years since were living in Moscow and are also Russian citizens. Plus, all her coaching staff is Russian.

Just a tid bit... Tursynbaeva is also a violinist, studied in Moscow Academy until move to Canada.

She also gave a 5 min interview to Wilson Blades few months ago, and i did not see it posted (we don't have KAZ skating thread).. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZG3c_0WNPs

Kazakhstan press and fans are very happy with Elizabet's accomplishment, quite few articles are posted in the last few days.

He won't be... they were divorced already, and all she supposedly did was strictly her own initiative or non-action.

Tukt has much respect for Medvedeva and support much in past. She feels Medvedeva should’ve won Olympic gold. If there is fan war the bright Tukt or Medvedeva are allowing senseless drama in

It's not just "fan war", some of the comments are not worth posting. It's media headlines that adding to the fire.

Nitpicking, but her mother is Kyrgyz (but living in Russia since her student days, IIRC)

No, it is not nitpicking, you said it exactly right, her mother is Kyrgyz, born in Kazhakstan, and a Russian citizen since college days. Padishakhan Sultanalieva (Tursy's mom) was born when it was still USSR, like everyone had a "soviet citizenship" and when the country split, she was living in Moscow and chose her passport to be Russian.

I love Med but I will be upset if they pick her over Tuk for worlds, unless Liza has not fully recovered. Zhenya has struggled all season. Liza has been solid.

The choice will be made based on one (or two?) performance?

RFSF said "the results of the Russian Cup Finals will be considered (along with other factors) in selecting the World Team".
https://www.sport-express.ru/figure...niyu-budet-utverzhden-do-25-fevralya-1506711/

Unfortunately, seems like "someone's PR-machine" is determined to push Medvedeva over Tuktamysheva and using media to plant this idea in people's heads..

For example, "Sportsdaily.ru" is an official russian sports publication (not a yellow press, or a private blog), and in it, a Vice Editor-in-Chief (2nd Editor), Sergey Byriy, wrote this.. (which i think is a provocation).
"Zagitova-Samodurova-Medvedeva is the World Team: now it is not a secret".
https://www.sportsdaily.ru/articles/zagitova-samodurova-medvedeva-sostav-na-chm-teper-eto-ne-tajna

... then it gets more ridiculous..... He adds that this "team combinations" is what will happen "in spite of Masons wanting otherwise", and mentions "involvement of Masons" few more times...

"Masons" is a code word for "rich Jews who control the world with power and money", it comes from "Judeo-Masonic conspiracy" ideas.. :D

Then he accuses the Russian Fed of "hiding their decision, while it's already been made", and makes several arguments that Tuk is not ready, and Med is clearly a better candidate".

The article (in Russian) google-translates ok.

Isn’t Med dealing with an injury for quite sometime? That would make her less effective than a fully recovered Tuk, who only had an illness to recover from. Injuries can take an indefinite amount of time to fully recover from.

Tuktamysheva is totally my sentimental favourite. I was so taken with her in 2014/2015 and her comeback so far has been incredible (and I thought my reward for sticking with her through the tough years) and then of course heartbreak with the pneumonia. What is it with me and becoming very attached to skaters who are always *almost there*?? haha I'd be a much more successful fan if I could just bunny hop my affections from winning girl to winning girl.

Although regardless of what happens, it's been a great season for Tuktamysheva as she has got back onto the scene. I'm also glad that she is stepping away from her rule of not doing shows - as she is doing Stars on Ice in Japan. I think she has potential as a show skater and I think it will be a very good learning process for her.

I am a big fan of Zhenya Medvedeva but my sentimental favorite right now is Liza Tuk. I always love a comeback story, and Liza’s comeback after years of struggle, lost opportunities, I am rooting for her.

I won’t mind if both of them are on the world team and Zagitova is not, but that is not going to happen.

Whatever happens happens. It is sport. I don’t see Medvedeva at worlds. Surely if Tukt is ready and healthy she will compete. Life is not ending for either girl. Nobody knows the future of younger Russian girls- injuries, growth, loss of technique (look at Medvedeva struggles and Zagitova’s messy messy season). Time will tell. Not some gossip newspapers. Tukt and Medvedeva will be back next season no matter this outcome. This is not their ending

I wish people would knock it off. They are both great young women with their strengths and weaknesses.I hope they both skate cleanly and that the judges are fair. Both are worthy of competing at worlds.

Liza and Med are my two favorite Russian girls, and I’ve been a Liza fan since she was a sonogram.

Med will not do well at Worlds based on her season and it does her no favor to send her. I hope and expect that by next fall she’ll be more comfortable with her coaching and her body and life in general. Liza should go.

But, PR, it would be a tragedy if next year there are only two, given the 3As are moving up. They have to send Alina, that's a no brainer, though she could totally implode (I am just praying she gets through this season, and retires so she can eat. I've known too many to not see the obvious.). So you have Alina, and Sofia who is rock solid. Shouldn't we send another rock solid skater who is at least 90% assured to land everything? So who would that be? If I were betting I'd say Tarusina. YES. I said it. I don't like her skating at all, but she does have some redeeming qualities, one of which is always skating clean. It worked for Soldatova in 1999 and she came away with a bronze world medal. I guess we'll have to see how MED is at the moment, she does have some PCS to fall back on, unlike TUT.

Would love it if the team was Sam, Med and Tuk.

But don't you think Alina still has some "insurance" especially if she's clean in the SP? She needs to go. Next year she'll be abandoned, but I really love her and I am a fan who knew she'd win OG after her JrWo win. She was just better than MED, well, even though Alina didn't master the O-face and the pantomiming... I'd love for her to suck it in, and win the Worlds, and then leave competitive skating.

Alina has benefit of being Olympic champion this season and getting questionable PCS from judges, also they’re overlooking her UR jumps. How much longer can judges keep doing that? And is it fair to the other skaters?

They will do it this season but not longer. This is her first season after her OGM and she is getting the benefit of the doubt. I just hope she does not have a meltdown like last year's worlds.

If she URs she will be penalised just like at Europeans, if not she will get the score. Her PCS is the same level as Kihara, by no means Kihara is a artistic genius. It is amazing how some here want likes of Tennel to get higher PCS but find Alina’s score offensive.

I hope Judges will show no mercy for chronic URs like Satoko and Zhou. I find it funny how people want Alina’s jump to be penalized but take offense on Zhou’s Jumps being called UR, which almost all his jumps should get a carrot.

I don’t think Med is ready, and her whole year has been a train wreck. A completion should not be enough to deem it okay to sent her to the world championship. Even Tuk’s half hearted skate last week is far better than what Med has skated all year long.
