U.S. Ice Dance 2018-19 season news & updates

The Greens if they can stay healthy are going to one of the teams to beat on the JGP next season. N/K should be up there too. The US has an embarrassment of riches in Junior next season.

That's also true for the Novice and Intermediate skaters I watched this week.

Two decent teams are not exactly the embarrassment of riches.

I agree. The Canadian juniors are very good. I am an American but I think that Canada has us beat in their junior ice dancers.
With who exactly? L/L? They are much older then N/K and the Greens but not that much more advanced. Canadian ice dance is simply not nearly as deep as the US has been over the last decade. The list of Junior ice dance teams that have made the Jr world podium shows that.

The whole Canadian dance field was very tight. All of the top 6 are contenders on the junior circuit. I think the greens are very good but as a whole field I think the Canadians have us beat. Not to mention Russian juniors.

I am very doubtful about the prospects of the both teams
I really admire Browns for what they did but not sure how they can be scored that high in ice dance discipline. Ales/Tsarik - not sure about this team, I do not believe in the real success of a team where partners barely have any experience in both ice dance and skating.

I still tend to think the US has the deepest bench of ice dance teams in the world, including both seniors and juniors. Beyond the top three senior teams are three more talented younger teams who can hold their own in competition.

Huh. Why? Every time I see them I'm impressed yet again by their skating skills. They're young and they have excellent basics from what I can tell, which means they both have the room and the time for growth.

Keep in mind that C/P are still age eligible but chose to compete in seniors. I'm not in the least bit worried about ice dancing in the US.

I was very impressed with the US Jr RD competition and am surprised to come in and see this discussion, TBH.

Now, don't get me started on the Jr ladies competition, which didn't improve my sanguinity ;) about the US ladies situation.

Re-posting my reply from the U.S. Nationals Novice Dance thread in the Kiss & Cry section:
Does anyone know which of the top 4 will be old enough for the JGP next season?
YES (4 of the top 5 teams):
1st - Elizabeth Tkachenko will be 13 next month; Alexei Kiliakov will be 14 in April; assigned to the Adv. Novice event next month (Feb. 1-3) at Egna Spring Trophy in Italy.
2nd - Jordan Lin will be 15 in March; Morgan Sletten turned 14 earlier this month; also assigned to the Adv. Novice event at Egna Spring Trophy in Italy (both are Wheaton/WISA teams).
3rd - Layla Karnes turned 13 this past December; Kirill Aksenov will be 17 in April.
5th - Claire Cain will be 13 this month; Andrei Davydov will be 16 in April (also a WISA team).

NO:
4th - Elliana Peal will be 12 in May; Ethan will be 15 next month. She will be ISU junior age eligible starting in 2020-21.

Yes, I am too. Many of the junior teams are very young and/or new teams that are still developing. I don't see a need to predict their futures at this time.

huh????

Greens, Browns, Avonley & Vadim, Eliana & Ian

When it comes to totals teams in juniors who are medal contenders I think USA is ahead of Canada atm.

Just a friendly reminder that the "The Dance Hall 6" thread in the Trash Can is very welcoming of conversation about current junior international teams and future prospects. :)

Thanks for sharing! Here's an excerpt about their FD:
Set to the 1980s Eurythmics hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," the free dance highlights Manta's transformed look and allows the two to be freer and looser with the audience.
"I look at our free dance, and people have fun with it, they want to be involved," Johnson says. "Part of the fun of being queer is you start to let go of the things that might disrupt your identity because you know exactly what you are, and you know exactly what you like."
"I want them to look and feel different (from other teams)," [Christopher] Dean says. "There's a very contemporary, angular feel to what they're doing [in the free dance], yet we're trying to maintain movement and speed of the ice. I want it to feel organic, the way that they move on the ice."

I can’t believe how many brother-sister teams the US produces. Way more than any other country. I wonder why that is?

More accepted practice in the U.S., cost and logistical reasons, and parents putting siblings in skating classes and both end up progressing and loving it that if they want to pursue ice dance it's easier to pair them together as they are already comfortable with one another. Plus in terms of long-term goals, both would more likely be on the same page and less risk of one partner flaking out or suddenly leaving them years later, or having a break in the relationship that results in an irreconcilable parting and conscious uncoupling, etc.

The results the canadian team got on JGP are not impressive except for L/L.
Fabri/Ayer, the team with Lee Royer, F/M-P are all aging out next season
Don't be fool by their Nationals... marks were inflated.

Are you talking about Daniel? I don't know his background, but Ella has done ice dance for years.

Wow Anthony and Christina were great!

I thought so too.... I know @Jeschke thinks she's too vanilla... but I do think she is making a better and better partner for him. Id like for him to reconsider.

I LOVEEEE seeing Marina in audience watching and showing the '92 clip... Man.. I remember that.. I was just outta high school.. which means I am probably same age as Marina!
