Can’t seem to get a handle on how to quote. Re Nathan and Karen video, that IG user has the nasty habit of reposting without attribution. In the US SOI page, @TanithandBenFan claimed that was her video.

Thank you, tanithandben! So many people have enjoyed your videos and I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts. How were you able to watch a rehearsal? I thought they were closed.

@livetoskate, I feel badly for that Japanese fan but I think it's a lot to ask of skaters for special acknowledgement because of an expensive gift?

BTW, @TanithandBenFan got credited for her video, good to see. :) ICYMI, she already posted the link to her Anaheim SOI report/photos in the GSD thread here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/stars-on-ice-u-s-2018.102509/page-10#post-5364575

Also, kwanfan posted a very positive review of last night's Seattle show in that SOI thread just now, including this sentence about Nathan:
Nathan Chen's appeal spanned all demographics, and he skated like he was giving 200%.

I agree, it's hard for the skaters to remember and recognize fans when they see so many people for brief moments. The Japanese fan is happy now that there's a photo of Nathan eating at McDonald's, wearing the Apple watch she gave to him.

News posted in Prog/Choreo thread about Nathan's new programs:

A brief clip from sp by Shae-Lynn Bourne with music that has been guessed as: Caravan by Fanfare Ciocarlia
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bkn9Hx3n1nG/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=fy2rp1t7idng
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-7W4-DLFEA&feature=youtu.be the music sounds great

And the little bit of movement we see in the program looks fantastic. Shae-Lynn has definitely tapped into a fab funky new age style that is just Nathan's groove. It's hard to categorize.

The below silent fp clip posted by Chouinard is difficult to decipher. Nathan's fp is by Chouinard and M-F Dubreuil -- they are keeping the music a secret for now. I'm wondering what this is all about. It almost looks like kung-fu fighting. But why is Chouinard asking what fans think it is? Does he mean guess what the music is, or guess what it is Nathan is supposed to be doing? To me Nathan looks like he's either kung-fu fighting or in the throes of a hip-hop dance frenzy overdose, or something. :p I like what I see -- it's Nathan-edgy I suppose, but there's not enuf being revealed to guess what he's doing, much less guess the music. :drama:

Oh well, it's just a sneak preview tease. What's with the piecemeal promise of more to show us? Is that supposed to be a fan-friendly way of holding our interest during the off-season. Our interest is already held though, and I'm not sure if anticipatory clips here and there is the best way to roll-out Nathan's new programs. Perhaps they are trying to head-off third-party leaks by rink regulars? And perhaps keeping the music secret for awhile to prevent copycats?

Nathan is doing a show this weekend in Japan. Apparently he’ll be debuting his new SP there. Although it won’t be broadcast for some time.

Some people on twitter are having fun "guessing" the music... Sounds pretty legit, eh? :p

There was also one edit that had that Kung Fu Fighting song playing over it, but I forgot where I saw that. It was a good fit!

ETA: Found it!

Yep well, Chouinard can stop with the silent preview teases already. I'll reserve judgement on the 'dope' praise until I see the whole thing, with music. :COP:

Thanks @nimi for the Twitter takes on music guesses. Now, those clips are actually dope (in the positive slang meaning of the word). ;)

ETA:
Some of the commentary posted by Chouinard followers shows their youth, and possibly they are fans of Chouinard from his work in the dance world, as I believe that's Chouinard's original background, not figure skating? If that's not true, what's his background?

This particular post I totally agree with: "It looks to have some funk vibe :) Clean lines with a touch of finesse and suave is what I enjoy about Nathan’s artistry."

I'm glad that Chouinard and Nathan have connected. I wonder if it happened as a result of Nathan wanting to work with M-F Dubreuil, or whether Nathan's connection with Shae-Lynn led to him connecting with these other Canadian-based choreographers. It's cool, I'm just not as enthusiastic about the teaser clips. It's okay as there's precious little news during the off-season, and it's nice to know that Nathan is hard at work for next season, but it also seems a bit of Chouinard promotion as well.

Here's Chouinard speaking with a Canadian broadcaster in the aftermath of the acclaim for Virtue/Moir's Olympic programs: http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1165994563759

Anyone who believes Nathan to be "only a jumper" should watch him, here.
ITA. He is one of the most exciting and artistic skaters around and to see him live either in competition or exhibition is a treat. Every time he has skated Nemesis since the Olympics, I feel like he has been skating it to "atone" for his prior errors. Tremendous emotional and artistic content! And he is just 19 years old. Looking forward to what may come.

I do like Nathan's artistry. One thing I think he lacks a bit in comparision to some of the Japanese for instance is speed over the ice, and is one reason his PCS are a bit lower usually. Maybe if I saw him live I would feel different. He isn't slow, but he seems a bit less fast than Hanyu or Uno is.

He's never seemed slow when I've watched him, live; especially as he has matured.

I specifically said not slow. He just doesn't look as fast as some of the Japanese. That doesn't mean slow though. And I admit I have never seen him live. I have seen Hanyu skate live.

Short program is too frenetic with way too much flailing arms for my simpler taste. It looks really difficult though. I think the LP is more my cup of tea. I’d like to see Nathan continue to work on his posture and softening his arms a bit, but I definitely see artistic improvement from him!

He does look a little bit slow in the Video from Dreams On Ice. His hair is a bit long too. It's summer. He's not slow in competition at all. It's just summer. Good for Nathan for letting go a little bit.

1. It's only July
2. His programs were probably completed a month ago and he's still learning them
3. He is skating on smaller ice surfaces, sometimes with other skaters on the ice
4. In exhibition, he's skating in the dark.

If there is anything that Nathan is not, is slow. Let's see how these programs progress. Looking forward to seeing that progression. SkateAmerica, here I come!
