In times like these, I miss the Russia of old. Him, Katsalapov, Bagin, etc. they've all chosen to skate with partners well beneath their capabilities, :scream:. Stepanova has her challenges but she can dance and she has a personality on the ice, the others just fade into the background. When their experts look at the medal winners over the last two quads when has that combination, ever, ever worked? Amazing. Whatever Karma really is its real. LOL.

Stepanova and Bukin are my favorite Russian team! Their SD was pure fire.
 
Despite their technical flaws, they have something. I wasn't a fan of this years FD, albeit the dress was the best thing I saw this entire Olympic season, but the FD from last year was very promising. Their SD this year I found uneven and tries too hard in places, but the chemistry in the FD was palpable. They just need to put everything together in the right vehicle. Hopefully, it will come together this season and the rest of the next quad. One other ice dancer of theirs I find compelling is Eva Kuts, but it may be too soon to make any bold statements. Her partner though, not so much. It just irks me that there is such a mismatch in skills across so many, many pairs. Ugh!!

Hopefully, Stepanova and Bukin will experience a more fulfilling, less dramatic (competitive) year and quad, especially after this last Olympic season. A new quad offers them a fresh opportunity, and so I’m cheering for S&B to make the most of it. I’ve been a fan from the beginning, and I wish them well!
 
I am hoping for having some fresh blood in Russian senior pairs. Tarasova/Morozov are fine, but Stolbova/Klimov are often injured and probably won’t last till the next Olympics. I don’t particularly like Zabijako/Enbert, I find them a bit boring and I think technically they reached their maximum. Astakhova/Rogonov are also a bit up and down, stagnating, a few years ago I hoped for Efimova/Korovin to gradually get higher but although I enjoy watching them, I don’t think they are ever going to get anywhere near the Europeans/worlds. So Russia definitely needs some young ones to move to seniors. Pairs are not like ladies; in ladies several of the Russian ladies managed to get on the podium in their first senior season. In pairs it takes much longer. I think the quickest were Sui-Han and Tarasova/Morozov, who took 2-3 years. So if Russia wants strong pairs at the next Olympics, the strongest juniors should move already now. Pavliuschenko/Khodykin said that they would like to move. I am curious if Boikova/Kozlovski and Mishina/Galliamov will move too. Maybe Mishina/Galliamov will have to stay in juniors because they didn’t do JGP and probably won’t have good enough ranking to get GP events. But whoever moves will have the advantage agaist all the other Russian junior pairs who will age out of juniors in the next 2-3 years, and it seems that there will be quite a few decent pairs coming up. Comparing the results at the junior nationals this past season with the nationals a few years ago, the standards of Russian junior pairs have quite dramatically increased.

But then again Pavliuschenko/Khodykin got extra points by winning junior worlds and B/K didn’t even attend this season. Although Boikova/Kozlovski have spent two years in juniors collecting points so naturally they are in better position with their ranking. It was first international season for P/K. I guess both pairs could move up. The more the better!

Pavliuchenko/Khodykin said they move up (see the recent feature on them). I also spoke to Tamara Moskvina about Boikova/Kozlovskii and she said, they'll turn senior. I agree that the Russian junior pairs show a lot of promise. Hopefully they'll stay together and make progress. On the other hand, success in juniors often doesn't lead to success in seniors as we've seen in the past, especially with pairs, when the girls are not done growing. However, there are some examples of teams that were successful in juniors and continued that way in seniors notably Stolbova/Klimov, Sui/Han and Tarasova/Morozov in the past few years, so there is always hope. :)

Alina Zagitova's Japanese dog is on the way to Russia and apparently will be given to her today (Saturday) during an event with Japanese prime minister Abe at the Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, reports the Russian website Chempionat.com quoting a Japanese source:

Thank you for that. Do you know about any other Russia pair who is planning to move up?
I agree that success in juniors does not necessarily turns into success in seniors, but at this time it is the best time to move because the pairs would have four years to work their way up for the next Olympics. And as there seems to be about 10 decent junior pairs moving up (if they stay together) in the next 2-3 years, moving before the other pairs will give them advantage being longer in seniors and having more time to establish themselves.

I don't know about Mishina/Galiamov's plans, but I assume they'll stay junior one more year to have more time to gel as a team and to improve their rating. Some other junior teams we'll have to see who stays together and who changes partners. I spoke to Kostiukovich/Ialin and their coach, there will be a story on them on Golden Skate with all the news on them in June. :-)

I think they have a lot of potential! Hopefully they can have a killer 2022 Olympics to make up for this one.
 
Nearly the end of May ... Isn’t it the time when Russian federation usually publishes their nationals team for the next season? And the transfer window for Russian skaters also ends at the end of May, so soon we should know who moved where, who will skate for another country, who will be skating with whom etc.

Both posts make a good point, if not to the point. ;)

I believe that if Adelina were to return to her past competitive form successfully, she’d be back in the game in a heartbeat. However, such a move is risky for an Olympic champion. Then again, imho, I do think there’s probably a concerted effort to keep Adelina visible, viable, and (still) in the conversation. It’s helpful and desirable for any Olympic champion to make the most out of their Olympic celebrity as long as they can.

Olympic champions always enjoy a certain amount of fanfare and celebration, but eventually, the hoopla will die down. Not to mention that Russia now has another ladies Olympic champion sharing the spotlight… I’d imagine that Adelina’s team is focused on keeping her in the mix and spotlight for all opportunities that might continue to present themselves now and in the future. It’s good (stealthy) business, and I can’t say that I blame them. They wouldn't be the first to float a 'comeback' that never really happens. :sneaky:

ETA: Btw, I am not suggesting that Adelina's desire to return to competition is anything less than 100% genuine. An athlete’s passion for their sport never leaves them, but all comebacks are challenging and some never successfully get off the ground … or ice, in this case.

Well I don't know her ethnic background, but I think her mom is Russian. Her dad hasn't been in the picture for a while so I don't know on that side.

Russia is very diverse, so it wouldn't surprise me if she had some Armenian or Kazakh in her, but no matter where she comes from, she's fabulous! I have a girl crush on her too :D

I've liked them since juniors.I think if they have good programmes they could really move up this season.Although there's rumours B/S aren't retiring yet I want S/B as number ones!

Really? Interesting… For me, I would welcome this news, as I have a huge soft spot for them. However, I've learned to keep rumors and source information in check because sometimes it's just so much fluff, and that's about it especially when circulating around during the silly off-season... But, if it turns out to be true, :40beers:!! :kickass:!!
 
All b/s are good for is top 5 but not medal. Can’t even get to gpf! Why do they want to continue? It’s time to send a team to dubreuil. Medvedeva going to orser shows Russia can send people to Canada
