UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

When I said going from jump to jump like a Mack truck in an earlier post, I actually just meant that the program looked empty in between all the jumps. That was a really poor attempt at humor on my part - much like Mirai's comments on DWTS! :duh:

I should have said that differently. I actually love powerful skaters with big jumps and fast spins! I always rooted for Slutskaya to win when she was up against Kwan and Cohen. :EVILLE:

Okay. Plenty of programs looked empty between the jumps in the past and plenty do today. I really don't know whether that has changed as a result of CoP, but would think that skaters might actually be attempting to include more content and transitions in the programs due to the new system.

For the most part, I did and do find a lot of skating programs to be cookie cutter.

Her 2005 FS at Moscow Worlds is one of my all-time favorite programs.

Ok so Kristi won because she is old with kids. Shawn Johnson won because she was a teenager and lost a gold medal. But no one likes Mirai because she is attractive, has an attractive body, she is childless, and a good dancer? lmao what???? So viewers are jealous? 😂😂😂 There has to be a childless attractive adult female who is an exceptionsl dancer that has won? Didn’t Kelly Pickler and the lead singer from Pussy Cat Dolls win? Also a woman from the Bachelorette who was a professional dancer? I think a young soap star won as well. Meryl Davis has kids?

Nicole won because she was in what Pussy Cat dolls and had a solid fan base. Meryl won because Maks had gone to the finals and lost so many times that viewers felt sorry for him and saw Meryl encouraging him to believe in himself. Plus there was a romance factor. Kelly won because she wasn't the best dancer, Zendaya was. And she had chemistry with Derrick. Also there was the issue of the online votes being thrown out.

Melissa won because she was dumped by the bachelor three months after the rose ceremony. Woman relate to that. Also during all stars she came in as someone that didn't win, so people we more willing to vote for her than Shawn who had already won.

For every example you give, each woman has had something that makes them relatable to the core audience. Women between the ages of 45-55 and conservative. And I've followed this for a long time. Young women with strong dance abilities are goners unless something special makes them click with viewers.

No I'm saying that Mirai wasn't relatable to the core viewers because she didn't have something that made the audience relate to her or feel sorry for her.

If something like Melissa situation happened to her, she may have made the finale. But this season she couldn't have won. Adam is far too popular.

Nicole brought her own fan base in that voted for her. She didn't need the regulars to vote for her.

Ummm prior to the I,Tonya stuff she was photographed smoking on her porch. Maybe it is an addiction and she needs a patch :smokin: . . . at least it is not meth or crack . . . maybe she is doing it to suppress her appetite to lose weight, which is what she did in the past.

Tonya uses chewing tobacco too. Surprised she isn't doing it to protect her lungs while rehearsing. Cheaper than gum or the patch, at least.

Also ... Tony was her partner. :P I voted my fingers off for Melissa and Tony in the All-Stars version because I wanted Tony to win. Didn't really matter who is partner was, I was voting for Tony. It just worked out that Melissa was great too. :D

It's true. In the Hughes Ballas domination years it was very frustrating for Maks and Tony fans.

Lots of dancers smoke. It helps keep the weight down. Probably more skaters than you know of, as well. Especially those in Europe and Asia, which aren't as stringently anti-smoking as North America. IIRC, I read that the average age of death for Russian men was 60, due to a lifetime of heavy smoking and drinking.

I met quite a few skaters in the smoking area outside of the venue for Olympic FS here in Vancouver. Had a very nice chat with Takeshi Honda over a ciggie. :smokin::)

So now Sasha is pushing for the skating world to give Tonya a second chance. Now we all know that not only does all of America love Tonya, but she "put figure skating on the map."

Methinks Dick Button, Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Katarina Witt, just to name a few, might disagree with that last statement...I presume that sainthood will be mentioned next for Tonya the martyr.

Tonya didn't know about the plot against Nancy until AFTER it happened. The hindering prosecution charge was for not turning Jeff in. Dick Button, Michael Rosenberg, and Peggy Fleming would not have a problem with Tonya skating. Button was the one that produced ESPN pros and would of invited her to world pros if Tara hadn't objected. Both Dick and Peggy liked Tonya's skating.
Hamill and Tonya actually skated together at Tonya's old (Clackamas) rink although Dorothy did refuse to hire her for ice capades because she pled to the felony. If the whack hadn't happened, Tonya would still of been national champion and might of medalled at the Olympics, Nancy might not of even made the team because Kwan was better than Nancy. Katarina once said she would skate against Tonya any where , any time, although she was one of the ones that refused in the breaking the ice special. Nancy was the most overrated skater of all time- she wasn't as athletic as Tonya or as artistic as Baiul. I personally preferred both Tonya and Surya over Nancy and both should of beat her in 92 Albertville as well.

I am not against someone redeeming herself, but I am so glad the thread is at a place that I don't have to see constant complaints about an ex-skater who skated 20 odd years ago. Likewise, I don't want to see that about Nancy or Tonya either, positive or negative.

Tonya is a classic "loser" that middle class Americans like to complain about, even though her flaws are also in many common folks (denial, repeating mistakes, bad relationship), but she exemplified something we don't like to see in ourselves, so we laugh at her.
 
Scott Hamilton and Tonya once shared the same benefactor too. He seems to be carrying a grudge for how that all went down, recently saying Tonya "bites the hand that feeds her." I'm not sure what exactly happened there in detail.
