UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

For her son's sake I hope it's true. It's wrong that she's been prevented, at least in the past, from making a decent living. She paid for the crime she was charged for. The past is gone. Nancy seems to have moved on and even had some kind things to say, especially regarding Tonya's child in that one t.v. interview she did a few months ago. People really need to let so much anger and hatred go. It happened to Nancy and she's had the grace to move on. Others should too.

What makes you think Nancy has let go of her anger? She just doesn't choose to give Tonya any more airtime.

Not true. All the ban did was prevent her from skating in USFS sanctioned events (meaning US Nationals and any pro-am that was sanctioned). It did NOT block or prevent her from skating in professional shows or any of those 11tybillion made-for-TV pro competitions that saturated TV during the mid to late 90s. She could have skated in any number of pro-only events or shows here in the US or anywhere in the world. The ban could not and did not prevent her from doing so.

Let's remember that most of the top skating Ladies reportedly had "no Tonya" clauses in their contracts following Lillehammer. So she was effectively banned from pro shows and competitions. A few years later, Scott Hamilton tried to get folks to lift it because he thought it had gone on long enough. I think there was one competition she was allowed to be in, but that was it.

Adam and Jenna were on ET Live this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuzEIrWB9Zs

He talked about his boyfriend moving to LA (cute), his schedule, and about Tonya ("Don't judge a book by its trailer" omfg)

That was really nice and fair actually. Too bad he ruined it at the end with that trailer comment. How lame and unfunny.

Why is it considered ok to mock and discriminate against so-called "white trash"? Not everyone is born into money.

Did she skate in any of those?

I rather doubt she'd have received an invite, even if she was technically permitted to skate.

I don't recall her skating on anything but public ice subsequent to the incident. That's presumably why she had to try out boxing and other ways to earn income.

No, she didn't. But that Ban did not prevent her from skating in any professional skating shows or competitions. It was up to the producers of those shows/competitions to invite her. If they had invited her, there was nothing the USFSA could do about it. They didn't, and Tonya has no one to blame for that but herself.

Amen! My wife and I thank the Lord that Tonia would of not been allowed to do shows and did not get the invite's because it would of sent the message that an attempt at murderer could entertain good Americans at pure and clear ice events.

From reading your post's it sounds like Tonia must of done something personal to you, not as bad as what she did to Nancy but may be close. If she has not apologized to you yet that is all on her as well, hopefully she will find the path and do so some-day.

It was Dick Button and Michael Rosenberg that tried to get the 'no tonya" clauses lifted Hamilton was the instigatitor behind the "no-tonya" clauses to start with. The one competition was Espn pros in 99, and Button wanted to invite her to world pros that year but the then reigning olympic champion from 98 turned annoying commentator refused to skate with her. I would of simply not invited Tara, but Dick wasn't strong enough to stay no to her.

Dick let a 15-year old fluke shut him down?

It was Spike. She also did a commercial on fox sports net playing a grocery cashier- the guy tried to sneak an extra item in the express lane and got it thrown back at him. She was on Larry King Live a few times as well.

She did an ad for a local car lot back then too. Both it and the grocery store one were hilarious. Wonder if they’re in YouTube?

It is interesting to see how good Tonya actually is at dancing. I guess that working with choreographers, paying attention to posture and line and performing during a skater's competitive years translates pretty well to dancing, even years after their careers are over.

What makes you think she is still angry? She seems to have moved on from it a long time ago based on the 20-year piece shown during Sochi. Just because you want Nancy to still be angry, doesn't mean she is.

It took me awhile to understand how that comment was rude. I took it as movie trailer, not trailer park trailer. I guess I'm still in I, Tonya mode.

Wow, tough choice. The reigning Olympic champion vs a skater who hadn’t competed in 5 years and who was part of a conspiracy to take out her competition (any part admitted to or not). HOW could Uncle Dick have possibly made such a bad decision!!! ??

Could he have been referring to trailer as a movie preview? Don't judge a book by its (movie) trailer?

There was also a 95 show in Portland with any profits going to some senior food program. Unfortunately the show didn't turn a profit. It was televised on NHK (the Japanese network)- the interview with Tonya, Tonya skating in her Olympic dress, and a pairs number with a friend of hers at the time named Patrick. He was doing it as a favor to her so she could afford ice time, but they did learn how to do throw 3 sal and 1axel, and some lifts. I do remember a video on one of the shows (probably inside edition) where they showed a practice with an overhead lift, and a throw axel. I think CBS was supposed to air this as part of a "where are they now" special in 95 but couldn't agree on monetary terms with Tonya so they didn't air it. youtube has some of the nhk interview.

No. The tip off is the comment his partner makes afterwards when she is cracking up.

Yes. She seemed really nice, but that laugh then saying they have said that in their alone time made me 1. Know for sure Adam is planning these "zingers" which are bombing a lot, and they are even less funny when you have the feeling the line was pre planned and 2. Feel like I just walked by the mean kids table in high school.

I would like to see 2 female skaters and Josh Norman in the finals. I expect Adam to make it (his "zingers" are uncalled for). The house Tonya is living in now does not look like a trailer to me. I have never lived in a trailer (the parks have them too close together, and I have a fear of them catching on fire). The 2 story house I inherited from my mom (but I had to mortgage to pay off my brother and her mortgage balance- he wouldn't take her car (a 2010 ford focus with low miles in great condition). One of my mom's friends wanted it and I sold it to her. The house is too big for just the dog and me but I can't sell because I wouldn't get enough to pay off the mortage, everdry financing ( I did do the basement waterproofing), and am doing the downstairs and basement windows this summer. The upstair windows will have to wait. The town I live in has very few places to shop ( I would like to move back to my college town where there are actually stores (although not many left at the mall). My town couldn't even keep a goodwill in business. We have a Kmart which basically survives because its the only department store in town when you don't want to run to Findlay or Bg, Kroger (grocery), and a few dollar stores.
My company just got sold again. The supervisors think its just an investor change ( more money) and nothing will actually change. We will find out when its finalized in June. I know people that have trailers, and some of them are actually quite nice. I prefer houses though (my shih Tzu isn't quiet). Apartment living I didn't mind but can't do it now because I have a pet, and the ones that do allow them want them to be quiet.

Where in my post did I say that 'I think' Nancy has let go of her anger? Please point out where you saw those exact words in my previous post. What I SAID was that she SEEMS to have moved on - going by that interview during the Sochi Games. What I SAID was that she showed grace and even made some kind remarks about Tonya and especially her son. I also said, in my previous post that people should really let go of their anger. And move on. That is my opinion. If you don't like it, fine. No biggie. I didn't say that Nancy should nor did I say that 'I think she has let go of her anger'. That's just something that you made up. Don't make up stuff that I didn't say just because you don't agree with my comments. Thanks.

Kathryn Bertine's book All The Sundays Yet To Come, about her career as a not-fampus professional skater, describes how at one point she was a featured skater in a company touring South America, with the star being an overweight white guy who portrayed Michael Jackson on ice. So yeah, Tonya couldn't have been in USFS sanctioned shows or in shows with skaters who had "no Tonya" contract clauses, but there were other opportunities out there that she likely could have had. Not glamorous, not high profile, not well paying, but professional skating nevertheless.

She was offered an opportunity to skate topless in Vegas for a lot of money. She turned it down.

Those other opportunities never came knocking for Tonya though or she would have skated in them. This is a woman who boxed just to make a few bucks. She would have accepted skating in low key, low paying events if they had been offered to her. I believe she was simply blacklisted by all of those producers or sponsors who paid for such shows and hired the talent - on every continent, the world over, wherever there was a touring ice skating show.

I’ve read Rosenberg was in talks to get her a contract with the fledgling “Ice Capades” just prior to the Hubcapping.

The film is fiction.

Not exactly, because it was based on an actual event that occurred, Tonya's account of it and her life, and other accounts.

As such, it is an interpretation of an actual story, not fiction.

They say at the beginning of the film that there is no real truth, or something like that. It's the primary theme of the film. Because of that, when watching it the viewer has been alerted that the film does not strive to tell a 'real truth'. That theme is central to movie, and because of that, the viewer is aware that they are only seeing an interpretation. The theme is reiterated with 'asides' in the film, such as when Tonya says "I never did that" after being shown doing something to Shawn (shooting him or throwing , IIRC).

It is precisely because the filmmakers took this approach that the film was so successful IMO. It is much more than just a story of Nancy/Tonya and Tonya's life. It is an investigation of the meaning of truth.
