The Dance Hall 5: Ice Dance Fans 2017-2018

If anyone would like to read the original post that I summarized, it can be found in Bobrova & Soloviev's fan thread under the Fan Fests section on Golden Skate. I believe the poster, "snow," was sharing a description via Bobrova & Soloviev of their own program in a Russian publication. The post was quite early this season--probably around Nepela in early fall--so you would have to go back through a number of pages. The description is more wordy than my summary, but I don't believe I left out any of the plot elements from the post when I summarized it. I'm fairly certain there wasn't an online link to the original interview as I would probably have posted it along with my summary back in December. (It took me quite a while to find the original post the first time so I will leave the search to anyone who is interested this time around).

Oh!!! It was a dream? Okay, that’s really really sad.

Thanks for your responses! It’s been bugging me since I saw it during the team event.

Regarding Chock & Bates I think their decline is even steeper than Weaver & Poje at the moment; and FWIW I quite dislike both teams so I have no horse in that race from a fandom standpoint. Also since the 2012 Worlds the only 2 times Chock & Bates beat Weaver & Poje, W&P had a disaster in 1 of the 2 portions so I stand by my view unless W&P skate crappy they wont lose to C&B at this point, and I don't care who disagrees with me. And while I agree W&P medaling in Milan will be an upset, really any podium but the French, Hubbell & Donohue, and Shibutanis in some order will be a big surprise after H&D still managed 4th despite a huge choke at the Games, C&B medalling would be an even MUCH bigger upset than W&P medaling would be. I mean who on earth in their right mind would ever expect C&B to medal or even come close after being 8th at worlds last year, 9th at the Olympics behind Gilles & Poirier, and 3rd at their own Nationals despite that the other 2 had mistakes and they were perfect there.

Chock & Bates are so overrated on this site and get way more respect than they deserve, I remember before last years worlds ridiculing you all since they were 4th in votes as teams to finish in the top 5 and I told you all they were very unlikely to be top 5, when they had been losing to teams like Bobrova & Soloviev and Capellini & Lanotte (who each had far less votes due to the typical C&B fanboying and overrating on this site) all season long. Of course, as usual, I was right. Before the Games I was cautioned not to discount them from the medal count despite being the distant #3 U.S team and I totally laughed it off as a ridiculous notion, and yet again wasa proven right. C&B so overrated on this site.

We never said C/B medalling wouldn't be an upset, we were talking specifically about W/P's career state. So calm down.
Imo, W/P are better than C/B, I said it countless times, but at this point both teams are in difficult times. And while C/B did 8th at worlds and 9th at the Olympics, they managed to qualify at the GPF while W/P did not.

Considering how the difficulty has escalated, finding four totally solid performances in the same competition by any two closely ranked dance teams isn't too common these days, much less for Chock & Bates and Weaver & Poje. But for what it's worth (which is about 50% of the results between these two teams over the course of their last 12 events), C&B did defeat W&P in the SD at Worlds and World Team Trophy last year, a portion of the events in which both teams skated clean. I cannot remember a competition in which both teams skated completely clean through both the SD and FD. I can name events in which both teams avoided major errors, but in those cases, I would say that visible mistakes did help determine the result. W&P did win the FD-only head-to-head at International Team Challenge, despite a mistake on a lift. The scores there were never counted internationally, however.

I believe they intentionally made the dance vague, or made it open to the interpretation of the viewer. Zhulin didn't have a clue in other words and he didn't have a dream or vision as per their last fiasco of an OGs FD.

I was personally okay with the "vague interpretation" because the whole FD lasted for about 1 min. To me. Sign of a good program... I'm always praising Anna Karenina which was amazing but they were spot on with this year's FD. I wish they had a better SD.

Zhulin didn't choreograph Bobrova & Soloviev's FD. It was done by an outside choreographer, someone--I believe--who does modern ballet.
It was choreographed by Radu Poklitaru, a quite famous (in Eastern Europe) Moldovan choreographer, who is the director of the Kiev Modern Ballet.
But he worked with them only in the ballroom, Zhulin did all the other work (to make the dance work on the ice as well )

So--per the out of Worlds thread--Fournier-Beaudry & Sorenson are off the entry list for Worlds.

And Zhulin apparently announced that Bobrova & Soloviev decided not to compete.

And, as expected, V&M are out.

Thoughts?

I would be very upset if BF/S couldn't compete. Hopefully nothing is wrong but from their Facebook page they look alright. This is a head scratcher. Also from that list we can deduce the Shibs and C/B are going then.

I hope they are not injured also.

Noooooo! I hope this is a mistake. They have fabulous programs and I was hoping they could make a move, placement-wise, at this Worlds........

They could.

Total speculation; but if they switch federations, they would have to step out for a certain amount of time, correct? Teams used to have to miss a season in order to switch countries. I don't know how it works now, but I do remember someone saying that it helped Alexia Paganini that the only ISU international she did last season was in August rather than September from the season before.

I think teams switching feds have to sit out one year, so since the Danes did the GP (did they do Euros?), then they could theoretically compete for a new fed starting in December or January. If they did Euros, then they could compete in Feb (4CC?), I think.

USFS has not yet confirmed their entries.

Thank you. Yes, they competed at Europeans. (They finished 9th. Seventh in the FD).

I couldn't find the rule, but I remember when the possibility of F-B/S competing for Canada was brought up before, it was said that the ISU has rules about not destroying a small federation's skating program. As Sorensen is the only elite skater Denmark has, he would not be able to represent another country. Can someone confirm? And if so, is there a possibility that they discovered a workaround?

That seems like something an athlete could definitely take to court.

Well, the easiest workaround would be the Danish Federation deciding to let them go.

(Just adding, again, that this is just a theoretical discussion).

I support FB-S switching to Canada. Its clear the chances for DEN citizenship for her are slim to none and the field in CAN after V&M retiring is relatively weak. W&P will likely not last until 2022 and G&P are very beatable, so its better to take the year out right now, and works towards CAN citizenship for Nikolaj the rest of the quad cycle.
