Whether participation nonsense is good or bad depends how you do the participation crap. My high school didn't publicly recognize me as valedictorian so other kids wouldn't feel bad but they gave out a bunch of other nonsense awards in a public presentation. They didn't give me one of the nonsense ones because I was valedictorian. So basically I was the only student that didn't get a public award. Great job idiots.

First video I've seen of the new La La Land program. Sadly, it looks a bit boring although it does have some highlight moments. The jumping pattern looks identical to MR.
I am the biggest Ashley fan, but the jumps don't really seem to coincide with any crescendo in the music. In fact, the choreography as a whole seems pretty random. Hopefully, she can tweak prior to the Olympics (I do think she wil make the team along with Mirai and Bradie).

Wow, what conviction from Mirai. Her jumps looked confidently rotated as well! If she doesn't tense up this week, the gold is hers to lose.

her 3F/3T finally starts to look less iffy than previous in the season. The attack she is showing is fantastic and she seems to be in such a terrific shape. I guess it all comes down to nerves at this point..
I find it interesting how when she is in top shape and showing attack, her jumps looks so much more "precise" and cover more ice. It would be a highlight as an old Mirai fan if she could thrown down clean programs here (regardless the placement)

I like the little I have seen of Ashley's program but cannot help feeling less impressed than previous programs.. It seems very elegant, soft and flowing but it needs to "grow" a bit. If somebody has the capacity to "lift" a program, it is Ashley.

Mirai is planning 8-triple program. (3A, 3F3T, 3S 2A3T2T, 3Lz2T, 3F, 3Lo)

If she lands all 8 and get level 4's, her TES would be in the 80s (higher than Zagitova and Medvedeva)!!

8 triples and 1 2axel is going to give advantage in BV compared to 7 triples and 2 2axels, but some of that advantage can be compensated when someone like Zagitova backloads everything and repeats the tougher triples (lutz and flip).

What should have been a fantastic vehicle for Wagner, so far, is leaving me rather underwhelmed.

The elements seem randomly placed, and the music edits are choppy, too.

Ashley however, is one of those rare skaters who knows how to switch it on in front of a crowd. Even with the little time she has had to prepare this brand new program, I have the confidence in her to see La La Land work.

Sorry I don't think you can blame this on Obama. My kid was competing in USFS competition starting in 2002 and always getting medals. There would be 4 in a flight so everyone got a medal or there were medals given to everyone. She also played soccer starting in 2003 and everyone got a trophy. The winning team just got a bigger trophy.
Pretty sure Obama wasn't in power in 2002 or 2003.

And Trophee of France can´t give medals even for the winners :huh:

I feel bad for you... And this whole situation does not help the other teenagers (or kids). IMO it's a gift we give them by teaching them not everybody is the same, some have strengths in some areas, they might have worked harder or are just more talented. That is said, we are all unique, perform in other situations.

As for skating, I am all for participation prize at the lower levels. In Canada, the first competitions are evaluations in fact and everybody gets a ribbon according to the level they have achieved (merit, bronze, silver, gold). The emphasis is then put on one's performance and self-improvement regardless of the others.

Watched Ashley and Mirai's FS practice videos.

Ashley: Underwhelmed by it. It is the exact same layout from MR, which is often the case with skaters. I'll reserve my judgment until I see her perform it full out. There's a big difference in the energy and expression she brings in competition v. practice. If she can make the performance sparkle and hit the jumps she'll be in good shape.

Mirai: WHOA. She is looking amazing right now. Her jumps looked rotated and secured and she looks relaxed and calm. I'm seriously hoping she can bring this kind of skating to the competition. If she hits like this she's going to be tough to beat.

You guys do realize that all we saw her do was skate around a lot, mark a few steps, and do a few jumps, right? :) I don't see how anyone could even begin to evaluate the program at this point.

Yes of course I realize I was watching her first practice. The music is not going to get reedited and so we all heard the foundation and it was easy to see where the step sequence was going to be. There is no tension or drama which is in what adult Ashley thrives. It is almost like Ashley is doing what I called "skate pretty" or the "Mao Assada school of interchangeable and unnecessary music" and as we saw last season, it does not work for Ashley. Her jumps will have to be flawless.

LOL.. I WAS gonna post that yesterday too.. that the JUMP pattern is identical to MR... So then does it really matter what she skates to? I mean yeah the music was different but I still thought I was watching MR.

If even I know what jump is coming up next and which element she will then connect to, thats a problem because I usually wouldn't notice that..

Funny you noticed it too.

OK, I hope LLL looks mature on her.. For me I still envision a 12 yr old skating to it.

Pretty sure that 3lz placement is different than MR. Otherwise looks pretty similar.
