He said that there were issues with Anna's work ethic and that neither he nor the coaches were happy with her commitment (plus there were other reasons he doesn't want to go into). Her injury wasn't that bad and had nothing to do with his decision to leave. The decision was made after careful discussion with the coaches. He teamed up with Popova because there was no one else around in Russia and he didn't want to sit out a year waiting for the release of any foreign girl. He ends the interview by saying that in sport everyone is out for themselves and "the people who are around the athlete are only there to help him achieve his goals".
Oh, and he and Popova will stay in Kustarova's group.
