DWTS Season 22 3-21-2016

How many more seasons are they going trying to make the switch-up a thing? Everything so far has been so underwhelming, mostly probably because these are new partnerships. Of course sync is going to be off and chemistry isn't going to be there.

It's a shame because there have been so many excellent dances and performances so far this season up until this week.

Jodie was the exception - can't they replace Keo with either Marla's or Mischa's original partner? We got to see what Jodie can do with a great partner & decent choreography. I hope people vote for her in spite of Keo.

If Wanya wins it will be partly because of Lindsey's :kickass:choreography. I don't care what the judges said I loved Von' jive.

Keo is a good dancer, but they need to send him back to the Troupe and give that spot to another dancer who can choreograph better dances. Or just give someone else on the Troupe a shot next year in that spot.

I saw Keo when he was in my hometown on the DWTS Tour. He made a comment on stage about needing a good partner. I know Lolo Jones, Chaka Khan and the hamburger model weren't great but how arrogant and rude to say that in front of a crowd.

Three clunkers in a row is frustrating, and I don't have a problem with him saying it -- especially since the producers probably approved the comment. But he has a good partner in Jodie Sweetin and he doesn't know how to handle it. With the exception of Meryl and Charlie, these are celebrities unfamiliar with choreography and live performance. Maybe they can dance, but they still need a lot of ego stroking, teaching and creative choreography. Keo doesn't seem to have a grasp of that. We've seen it previously. Most celebs struggle during switch up, but a few flourish when they're matched with a better teacher/pro who better grasps the format. Didn't that happen last season with Andy Grammer?

I hope that after this year, the producers will see that audiences don't respond to Keo as a producer and replace him. I know Sasha's height is an issue, but I'd rather see him as a regular pro. Or Alan from the troupe (if he can choreograph as well as he danced with 2 hours practice earlier this season). Keo doesn't have the fan base (that I know of) and no choreography skills right now. Plus he doesn't exhibit much personality in the packages, and doesn't seem to connect well with his partners. PLEASE replace him.

Also, I hope Allison doesn't come back next season, because I'd like to see Edyta stick around, preferably with a better partner.

I know politics comes into partner matches (Val said as much when he was asked in an interview why he wasn't paired with Jodie after their Fuller House time), but sometimes it's just a bit unreal the shoddy matches make.

All my votes this week went to Jodie. Not because Keo deserves to stick around, but because she does, and she was absolutely fantastic on Monday night.

Mostly I hate the troupe, but IMO Keo is a case where...if you install a dance group like that, this is someone who should have started there: He's a good dancer with little teaching and choreo experience, as I understand. Not to mention that being a pro on DWTS demands other skillsets as well (babysitting, playing to the audience, creating narratives, staging for the camera, hiding weaknesses, accomodating personal foibles of the celebs etc.). He could have learned the ropes in the troupe. Lindsay wasn't a hit the first time around, she went back into the troupe and is much better now.

But now they're in a Catch-22. He couldn't progress with weaker partners because he didn't know how to compensate for their limitations and it appears that he's hampering a strong partner now because he doesn't know how to get the best out of her. Someone who's also been kind of lackluster the last few seasons is Witney IMO. For me she hasn't found her groove yet after Alfonso.

Keo's choreography wasn't criticized because it was "bad" choreography. It was criticized, because it wasn't a proper Viennese Waltz. I thought Keo and Kym's program as a whole was lovely.

Jodie Sweetin is being treated at hospital for an ankle injury. No word on the extent of the injury or how it will affect next week's performances. Hope it's nothing too serious and that she is able to dance and ride the high of last week!

So next week is iconic dances week. Apparently the dances will be...

Antonio & Sharna – Jive to “Footloose” from Footloose (I'd love if he decided to dance like Chris Penn's character instead of Kevin Bacon's)
Nyle & Peta – Quickstep to “Hey! Pachuco” from The Mask (Ugh, again? I feel like we've seen this so many times)
Doug & Karina – Bollywood (not yet confirmed what iconic dance, but speculation it will be "Jai Ho" from Slumdog millionaire)
Kim & Sasha – Jive to “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray (I can see her pulling this off. Even though I wish that just once there would be dances instead to the original, and much superior 1988 Hairspray movie)
Jodie & Keo - “Try” by Pink music video (Not confirmed)
Von & Witney – Jazz to “Bad” by Michael Jackson music video (Could be interesting)
Ginger & Val – Jazz to “Nasty” by Janet Jackson music video (2 years in a row for Val getting Janet. And I'm predictiong she will get ridiculous marks for 'going out of her comfort zone)
Wanya & Lindsay – Jazz to “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC music video (I think he's great for this one!)
Paige & Mark – Jazz to “Soul Bossa Nova” from Austin Powers (Prepare for Mark in full Austin gear, complete with teeth)

Some of those dances scream, "We're ready for you to leave the ballroom!"

A clip of Jodie incurring her injury was shown on GMA this morning. It looked really bad but I don't have a medical degree.

Nyle & Peta – Quickstep to “Hey! Pachuco” from The Mask (Ugh, again? I feel like we've seen this so many times)

Think of that as their way of giving you the real ballroom experience. Besides Paso (where we all know it's a weird dance, there aren't a lot of options) you sometimes spend a comp wondering if the DJ only has ten waltzes and is cycling through them. (If I hear "A Daisy in December" ONE MORE TIME....)

Doug & Karina – Bollywood (not yet confirmed what iconic dance, but speculation it will be "Jai Ho" from Slumdog millionaire)

Lawd!! how many times now???? Is this the only Bollywood in American pop scene????

Jodi's Pink dance was something, wow. I thought she did a fantastic job. It was moving.

So tonight, my thoughts are...

Wanya absolutely deserves to be in first. Holy hell that was amazing. I thought it would be the first perfect 10.
Paige deserves 2nd. I thought her dance was really well done but also not too exciting. Loved Mark's commitment to character!
Antonio was overmarked. When he did actual jive he was great - best part of the dance. But he was sloppy and made a lot of mistakes. I'd have probably given him all 8s.
I'd have Jodie in a clear 3rd. That was fabulous (maybe because Keo didn't have to do any choreography?)
Nyle was very overmarked. If marked on character and performance, he'd deserve 10s, but the dancing was sloppy. Incredibly so.
The rest were just the rest to me. I was impressed with Ginger's attitude in this one - didn't think she'd be able to let go of the bubbliness, but she and Von were nowhere near sharp enough for Jackson performances. Also, you know Val was pushing her because he got up there with Bruno to show her the attack needed. I like Kim a lot. She's likeable and a good dancer, but she somehow comes off as forgettable at times. It's times like this I wish the show was a bit more like survivor where you vote someone off instead of people to stay.

VERY surprised to see Paige in jeopardy, but knew she was safe because there was no tease of a surprise elimination.

Off to vote for Wanya and Jodie now...

At the very end Tom announced some type of change for next week. My phone rang and I missed it. Anybody hear it?

I heard the part about team dances being men vs women and that next week will have a double elimination.

I would like to know what the song was that Mark had to ditch. I kinda hate anything Austin Powers related so couldn't really appreciate even a Mark over-the-top performance. :p Anyone know what it was supposed to be?

Rewatching, anyone else notice that Ginger spends a large portion of each dance just walking? This one had about 30 seconds of her walking around, and then walking amongst the guys. In the comments on EW's review of the episode, a lot of people want her gone, finding her very overmarked (and her hubby annoying). I find her hubby adorable at times (like when referring to Val as a dirty martini).

I would love it if in the girls vs boys group numbers, even the pros were split into the girls and boys groups. That would separate the partners, but it would make things infinitely more interesting.

Also, I hope Nyle gets himself into check for next week. He came off a bit arrogant and unlikeable this week - I hope his comments in his package were taken out of context or something.

I remember thinking to myself that she was just walking/prancing around a bit during her number. Disney night she spent the first 1/3 of the dance just standing around while about 82 extras dances around her. I rather like her as a person, but I, too, have noticed the lack of content in certain places. I wonder if her stamina is just not up to normal after having the baby? Not sure -- I'm a guy so I have no idea how long that type of recovery takes

O.k. this makes me a total cougar :cat:....but who is the gorgeous male dancer in the chorus that previously was a Michael Jackson tour dancer? :hat1: :summer:

I hope he can do ballroom and they give him a celebrity next season. I haven't noticed him before. Is he new?

I'm just not that into DWTS this season, but he got my attention tonight

By the way, I've been waiting for someone to call Nyle on his posture (thanks Carrie Ann).
