U.S. Women [#8]: Meet Me in St. Louis

I am confused...is Alysa skating both programs from the last season?? Has she went back to the both programs from the last year? if so, I guess it might be related to her boot issue:unsure:

Has she said that she's still having boot problems? I hope not. That would be stressful even for carefree Alysa.
I don't think she's given any interviews since Lombardia, so there's really no way of knowing what the status is with her boot issues.

She did an interview the day she left for China. No mention of boot problems, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. She said she wasn't nervous and was really excited, though she seemed just as excited to see her family in China as she was to compete. I'm hoping the boot problems have been resolved.

Yay! Alysa says her boot problems are fixed:

She also says that she is still considering a new short program. I totally get why she dumped the new program. And I get why she wanted to have a new program for this season. But, I think her Laufey program from last season is defnitely the best program she's ever had (and better than the new one she just dumped). So, it might not be a bad thing if she ends up using it for the rest of the season. I do hope that going back to her old long program really does turn out to be temporary.

Amber said she wasn't feeling her best for the short program in China. I don't know if that means she was feeling sick or just not in the zone. She looked kind of stressed going out onto the ice for the warmup. But, it sounds like her training is going well and she is pacing herself and not overdoing it:

The jet lag to China is MASSIVE and a lot of US skaters avoid CoC for that reason. Ashley, Adam, Polina, Meaghan Duhamel, and others have all talked about this. Usually it results in a much messier event.

They brave the jet lag to Japan for fans and earning potential, but they still mention it as a factor.

So I wouldn't read too much into Amber being sick.

Also flying to Chongqing as opposed to Shanghai or Beijing adds to the schlep for events that are in China.

What would be even more awesome would be if she was doing the 3a but it's understandable with the boot problems that she never had the chance to practice it. Alysa with a 3a would be hard to beat considering how tough she is as a competitor.

YAY! Thank goodness! I've been so worried that Alysa's boot problems might continue to hamper her jumps in competition and training during the Olympic season! I'm going to keep lighting candles just in case! ✨🕯️✨🙏🏼✨

It's not clear how much time she lost to the boot problems. It sounded like she developed the boot problem just before Lombardia. And, from what I recall, already had started working on the triple axel again last season. She said in an interview this summer that she was going to do the triple axel this season, so it sounds like her training for it was going well. So, maybe she was able to practice it for quite some time and can still do it this season now that the boot problems are resolved? We'll see. I know it's a challenge to successfully add it later in the season, but fingers crossed.

I have watched Alysa's SP from CoC today three times because it was THAT good in my eyes. What a gorgeous program! :swoon:

Kudos to Amber as well for a great SP even with the hand down on the combo. She looked strong overall IMO. :cheer:

I have re-watched both as well, I think this is the best Alysa has skated that short program… I did not think that was possible.

I don’t think Amber was as into the program as she was at Nebelhorn on the second viewing. I do agree with some of you know that that ending is a bit weird, there should be more of an impact for the ending. I hope they go back and look at that.

Someone pointed out that this is the Deadpool and wolverine version of Like a Prayer, I don’t like revamps or covers, I do like the part of the choir.

I think Alysa should keep the short program, but I would like to see her revisit Lady Gaga. Is it true The only reason she’s not doing it now is because the song is banned there?

But if she revisits miss Stefani Germonatta then I want her to go full in with the character and then it’s going to work.

No, she debunked that in the Mixed Zone after practice yesterday or the day before. She's reworking the Lady Gaga program and plans on bringing it back.

I adore Amber. I want her on the Olympic podium. But girlfriend has more issues than anybody I’ve ever seen. Is it because she tells us about every ache and pain - more than any other skater divulges? It’s always something!
I think it's exactly this. We all know skaters have constant aches and pains. I think she's the only one who actually talks about the all lol.

Because the new program the cosinger is possibly involved in some thing quite bad.
And by something bad we mean the least bad interpretation of it is grooming and providing drugs to a 13-year-old runaway, then dismembering and hiding her body when she died. There are other allegations that are much worse including that she was potentially pregnant and he murdered her, but those are as of yet unproven.

Either way its a very bad look and she couldn't possibly use the music.

Amber and Alysa are so different in that Amber just with her face looks so stress all of the time when she goes out there and Alysa is smiling like nothing is bothering her even thought we know she gets those nerves like any competitor does. It is fascinating how some skaters like Alysa can hide the nerves but other skaters like Amber and Gracie when she was skating look terrified at times.

OK I am going to tell you something, I do secretly wish that after most programs she didn’t go right to …my back …or my neck or sad because she missed one jump yet still wins everything. I want to see her, stand up, smile, and take her bows and show she is fierce no matter what.. then go to the KNC and emote.

The only time I have not seen or done this when she had her best free program ever at the teamchallenge.

For me, everybody always holds their ending pose for a nanosecond, that’s still part of the performance, I want to see you out there and hold that ending pose like Oksana Baiul did when she was the dying swan, hold that ending pose. This is still part of the performance, And then no matter what you’re going through Don’t tell us about it until you get to the kiss and cry, hold the performance part longer.

You can’t copy and paste from Insta so check out this link… she goes into about sustaining a neck injury during practice, that you can hear the bling on the dress and some other interesting things from this week.
