U.S. Women [#8]: Meet Me in St. Louis

Although is the loop Amber’s weakest jump I thought it was the salchow.

I doubt the loop is her weakest jump in practice, but I think she tends to screw up on the loop and get wild when she is nervous or excited in competition. You can sometimes tell just by watching her just before she goes into the loop that she's going to have a problem with it. Pluse, she does the loop more than the salchow in competition. If you did the math, it's possible that she has popped the salchow more. But, perhaps that's because she used to pop after she made a mistake. She's gotten much, much better about that. She doesn't unravel after making one mistake.

Me checking out US Women at Ondrej Nepela

It was a cramp in her back that caused issues for Amber today, but it sounds like she's in a good place. She just needs to remember to hydrate:

WHEW. Sorry that she had a cramp, but I panicked when I saw that look on her face at the end of the LP

At this point, I think the possible contenders for the Olympic team have narrowed to Liu, Glenn, Levito, and Everhardt with an outside chance of playing spoiler.

If Everhardt is going to play spoiler, she needs a GP medal and ideally two, with GP Final qualification and a clear defeat of Levito at Skate Canada. I don’t think she has the material to achieve that, but we shall see.

Tennell and Lin-Gracey were so disappointing in their season openers that they’ll need a turnaround of epic proportions. Again, I think two GP medals and GP Final qualification is probably the bar they’d need to meet (+ conclusive defeat of Levito in a head-to-head for both + defeat of Everhardt at Skate Canada for Tennell).

Everyone else is skating for Four Continents or 2030.

I had hopes for some kind of miraculous recovery for Ziegler but it’s clearly going to take time. She’s only 19 and has plenty of time til 2030.

Considering Tennell scored over 33 points higher than Lin-Gracey in their respective season debuts, I hesitate to put these two in the same category. Tennell undoubtedly has lots of work to do, but I think she still has an outside shot to be in the picture if she delivers on the Grand Prix.

Signed,
A delightfully delusional Bradie stan

I don't think the difference is simply their season debuts. The selection criteria specifically say that it is not very helpful to look at just one competition. (That also means that, even if Bradie or Elyse manages to beat Isabeau (or Alysa or Amber) head to head at one competition, that is not going to be good enough to do it for them.)

Once the skaters are in the selection pool, the selection committee is supposed to do a deeper dive into the body of work since 2025 Nationals, looking not at medals but at the protocols and considering competitiveness and consistency. So, it's not the GP medals themselves that will matter. Simply getting GP medals due to a splatfest and weak competition wouldn't do much for them. IMO, they would have to have consistently fantastic peformances (tech and presentation) for the rest of the season and have a couple of other skaters above them skate poorly through Nationals. Is that possible? Sure. It's just not that likely.

Elyce has plenty of time too. I don't see her finding herself on the Olympic team for this season and I kind of wish people would stop even bringing it up as an option because it is just a ton of weight on her. She had one great competition last year and the rest were very average except for finishing up at Junior Worlds with a medal where most of the skaters had a lot of issues besides the winner. Her first competition this year was almost 40 points behind last year and a month later in the season. Her body is obviously still maturing as well. Just let her bake please!

BTW, it seems Starr didn't do so well at ONT because she had mistakes while being more ambitious with her jump content in the LP -> 3Z and 2 3Fs. Has she tried the lutz before?
I think she has, but it’s been quite awhile. She had a similar layout at Golden West about a month ago and fell on the 3lz (e) but landed both flips. https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/35653/CAT014SEG027.html

ETA: There was a popped lutz in the free skate from 2018 Skate America: https://www.isuresults.com/results/season1819/gpusa2018/gpusa2018_Ladies_FS_Scores.pdf

The revelation that it will be her final season and the ponderous music make watching this somewhat emotional.

I am rooting for her. I hope she has those pre-pandemic performances at Nationals that she is so capable of.

Looks like Bradie just nailed it at the Boston open. Didn’t see it but the long program scores are up - 147.84. All maximum levels and positive GOE on every element. Total GOE of 14 points. Seven triples with one triple/triple combo (lutz/toe.)
Good to know. Thanks. I understand it's a local competition, but her PB is from 2020 4CCs (?) where she scored 225. It would be great to see her around that level again and playing the spoiler by January. It would make Nationals really dramatic!
