Based on Ava's Instagram she's getting her jumps back.

I assume she's not listed because she's ineligible until she does summer competitions.

That’s exciting to hear, US women are gonna be so interesting this year.

I’d say as of today here are my probabilities of being on the Olympic team.

Alysa 99%
Amber 95%
Isabeau 65%
Bradie 50%
Sarah 20%

Ava will make things interesting but I don’t think she could get on the Oly team this season, hopefully she sticks around.

Thanks for picking that up. Was distracted by the pre-eminent Coco Gauff!
And here’s the program!

I hope they’re saving the TBD spot for her if she does well. With the top six women maxxed out on GPs, she’s the logical choice if healthy. Lindsey’s gone, Starr has hit her ceiling and has gotten the spot before, and juniors like Sherry Zhang (who I like!) have some maturing to do.

Well, apparently I've been following the wrong Ava, lol. Sorry for the false intel.

When so many people liked my post, I thought, 'uh oh ... how can I be breaking news on FSU? Something is wrong.'

I'm old, cut me some slack.

But in other news, there's a lovely skater named Ava Stephens who has some nice skating vids on her insta.

Alexa Gasparotto is making a case for one of those SkAm TBD spots!

I love Gasparotto but hell will freeze over before a skater who averages 140 points gets a SkAm host spot. We're not exactly in the era of Joelle Fortes or Sam Cesarios anymore. However, if she maintains this current trajectory, I think a Challenger event like Gdańsk could be more realistic.

Well it’s been talked about this past week and here it is in the press. ANL bringing it to you fresh off the press… Well, give me a week or so. Lol

Alysa Liu plans to bring back triple Axel for Olympic season

I feel like having merch made, what are those T-shirts… That go in the style of?

Alexa.

Wow, looking at that I guess if your name starts with a A you’re bringing on the ultra C.

Brian Boitano told Polina Edmonds that a skater shouldn't bring in new or more difficult jumps to an Olympic season, but since she did it last in 2020, maybe it's OK?

The problem with this is that sometimes competitors do. Playing it safe is just as likely to lose as it is to win. Ask Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya.

If a skater can consistently add a jump in an Olympic season, they should go for it. Boitano's thinking on this topic hasn't been valid since the compulsory figures era, IMO, and is definitely outdated in the IJS world.

ETA: And didn't Boitano himself add a second triple axel to his program in the Olympic season? Or had he done one previously? I guess it's not a new jump, but it's a significant increase in difficulty.

I’ve always agreed with Sandra Bezic on this, the Olympics is not the event to play something safe, it’s a once in a four year thing, and you’re never guaranteed it, being conservative or safe, doesn’t usually transpire, hence, Sarah Hughes, and her triple triples, and hence Shizuka Arakawa and hence Tara Lipinski.

Also, I don’t tune into the Olympics to watch sports people play things safe. I’m not watching my favorite skier taking it nice and slow and calm down the slopes or to see my favorite skater leave their triple triple behind. This is where you bust it all out. If you’re not, one or more of your competitors will be.

I don't think it's fair to take a comment out of context and judge on its value. Maybe he meant generally not a good idea, but given the right context it can happen.

Because most of our comments are absolute across all situations, right? :D

Look, the Russians tend to introduce the hard stuff the season prior and scale back the difficulty or keep the difficulty as is. I think there is some merit to that. Some successfully introduce the harder stuff in an Olympic season of course, like Nathan with the quad lutz in the second half in 2022, though he did it before, just not in the Olympics.

In Liu's case, she didn't plan the whole pre-Olympic cycle but just competed the season prior so there has to be some adjustment to that general rule

I'm not sure Brian's logic can really apply to a skater who was only just back on the ice training full time a year ago and at Worlds said she still is only at about 80% of her previous stamina & conditioning level from when she quit skating 3 years ago.
