U.S. Women [#6]: The More the Merrier!

DL mentioned on last Sunday's TSL that she had hip surgery. Who knows what her recovery time is or whether or not she'll be able to compete at Sectionals.

Can she even compete at sectionals given that she hasn’t competed in any NQS events?

Any thoughts on final two JGP spots? I’m thinking Kalin for Slovenia and Bezkorovainaya for China.

My guess is Kalin for China given that Bezkorovainaya is entered in Tayside Trophy the same weekend as China. It could be that Bezkorovainaya winds up at Slovenia the week before. Or the USFS could be waiting to decide Slovenia until after Cleo competes in Poland.

OMG, we can sweep the podium.

I think Midori certainly opened the door (for the US Women in 91). I wonder though how much the intense rivalry (between Kristi Yamaguchi, Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan) resulted in that sweep. I don't think our current competitors have that kind of rivalry (nor should they). They seem much more friendly and supportive of one another (rather than trying to one up each other).

I think the rivalry was really between Tonya and Kristi. Kerrigan was always going to be the third finisher in that group; She was lucky to medal at both Albertville and later at Worlds with really lackluster, subpar performances.

Nancy's programs were really well constructed, and she had a spectacular 3z (sometimes) and was going for a triple triple when they weren't common, but I've always been curious how she would have scored if she was representing, say, Austria.

Yeah, Nancy was very much a distant 3rd of U.S. ladies in '91. She benefitted from Tonya's poor fitness/prep in the '92 season, but was still considered number 3 if all three skated to their potential.

Do you think Isabeau would benefit from going to the the Cricket Club? They seemed to really help Evgenia Medvedeva (who had the same technical issues that Isabeau has). They taught her a new, healthier way to train and seemed to extend her career (for a while anyway, before circumstances forced her to go back to Eteri and we all saw how that worked out).

I personally think that Isabeau could benefit from having some jumping (technique) lessons from Ilia's parents/coaches. With her being in New Jersey a trip to Virginia in the summer (or periodically) might be "doable" but this could only happen if her coaching team is open to getting "outside" help.
She's such a beautiful skater it's a shame that her jumps could eventually (much more) fail her.

So does anyone think that Mia can get onto the podium at the last Grand Prix assignment? Do you think she could be the sole US lady to do it? Sure her PCS is still way lacking, but with the triple axels and quads hopefully she can fully rotate and produce something for team USA.

Dealing with injury. She did a couple of NQS events at the end of August/beginning of September and her highest score was 160.80 - not sure if she'll qualify for Pac Coast Sectionals with that score - that info is in the KnC thread for US Summer/Club/NQS comps.

Sherry competed in the spring and then missed U.S. Junior Team Cup in Milwaukee in July - presumably due to injury. She has competed in 2 NQS senior level comps and should qualify for Pacific Coast Sectionals in November.
