Kayne/O'Shea withdrew from Nationals in 2017 and have not competed this season, as far as I know. I don't know if they can compete at 2018 Nationals or if they plan on continuing to skate. Has anyone heard anything?

Also, Smith/Reiss were 7th at 2017 Nationals, but have since changed coaches and went to 1 comp that I saw and did poorly. Is there a chance they will compete at 2018 Nationals?

@maureenfarone, both pairs should be at Nationals.

ETA:

7 Senior pairs have byes to Nationals: Denney/Frazier, Castelli/Tran, Cain/LeDuc, Stellato/Bartholomay, Pfund/Santillan, Scimeca Knierim/Knierim and Liu/Johnson.

The 9 other Senior pairs in my count are: Kayne/O'Shea, Calalang/Sidhu, Smith/Reiss, Fields/Stevens (skated an exhibition at Mids), Digerness/Neudecker, Deardorff/Settlage, Yao/Simon, Allison Timlen/Justin Highgate-Brutman, Jade Esposito/Rique Newby-Estrella (latter 2 elected to compete at Easterns).

Although USFS has yet to post the official Golden Spin entries on their Assignments page, both Kayne/O'Shea (their competition season debut) and Liu/Johnson are listed as their 2 pairs entries (link is posted in the 2017 ISU Challenger Series thread in GSD). Competition dates are December 6-9.

Since its listed online for the competition site now, I will unofficially officially ;) confirm that Tarah & Danny are going to Golden Spin. I've been waiting to post it on their website until it was announced by USFS so hopefully the news will be officially announced by them soon because I hate waiting, LOL

BTW-I actually chatted with Danny recently and he said they're happy and doing great overall. Tarah is finally completely healthy and they're eager to show off their new programs. I'm excited to finally see them competing this season! :cheer:

Glad to hear Tarah is finally healthy!! Hope they kick butt at GS.

On the topic of side-by-side jumps, Sarah Feng & TJ Nyman were accomplished Junior level singles skaters and it's encouraging to see their sbs triples were ++ in their Pacific Coast Junior FS (13+ points for their 3S & 3T+2T+2T): http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2018/25075/SEGM029.html

Audrey Lu & Misha Mitrofanov also are going for 2 sbs triples in their Junior FS and they landed the 3T but got off unison on the 3S combo: http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2018/25074/SEGM012.html

Oh Sweet Jesus,

After really studying the roster for SkAm pairs this week there is a realistic chance the USA pairs could end up 6th, 7th and 8th.

Molly, we in danger gurl.

Seriously, this is a possibility that could materialize.

@clairecloutier should we meditate?
Two US pairs will be 7th and 8th. S-K/K are basically tied with Z/E and M-T/M. How about a little optimism for the pair that saved US pairs asking at Worlds in their 2nd competition of the season? They are basically tied even with botched SBS jumps. And frankly, there is a hell of a lot more to pairs skating than the SBS jump.

OK.. well.. then.... factor in their SBS spins...

optimism went out the door a few months ago after the US Classic.

Z&E, M-T&M and Y&Z can land their jumps this year and spin. I haven't seen Chris land a jump since I don't know who was president.

1. D&R
2. S&M
3. Y&Z
4. M-T&M
5. Z&E
6. S-K&K
7. D&F
8. S&B

@clairecloutier I need you. LOL

First pairs group just finished.

Johnny and Tara: "We havet seen Chris land one jump in practice all week."

ME: "WHATTTTTTTTTT?????????" LOL

Almost threw the remote when I heard that....

Gosh, had Alexa not fallen and Chris landed a triple they could be over 70.....

How can we send a pair to the Olys where the guy has never landed a jump in any SP or any free, and now apparently any practices......

Because there is more to pairs than just the SBS jumps.

Chris is 30 years old. He has bad habits that at this point cannot be corrected. The chances of him developing a solid triple jump at this point in his career is probably not going to happen. They will have to rely on their great triple twist and hopefully quad twist to get them by. Bottom line regardless of who the US sends to the Olympics they will not be competitive with the rest of the world.

LMAO.. Really? LMAO I never knew.... Only been watching for 40 years.. and theres more to pairs then jumping? Thank goodness for your enlightenment.

When this team formed they hit jumps. This issue with Chris is new. They wouldn't have made it to the GPF 2 years ago or medaled at 4CC if Chris had no jumping skills.

Tara also mentioned in his down time he worked on skating skills. I, too, wonder why he isn't doing nothing but jumps at this point for HIS home practices since his other elements are developed (well SBS spins needs a doctor as well). Im very curious if he spends any extra time on them and what his passion is.

Ive been drinking the Scimerim Kool-aid since before they ever had their first international competition so its difficult to see this.

That's true, but it's very embarrassing when our top pairs team can't do a SBS triple...which is something that had been standard in pairs skating since the mid 1990s.
I undrstand, I really do, but S/B landed their SBS triple toes and they’re still last. I just hate that S-K/K are so dismissed even though all of their other elements are first-rate. No, they won’t challenge for the top without SBS triples but they won’t be at the bottom, either.

Then you can appreciate that the rest of their elements are very good.

Post reactions after the SP from USA pairs.

Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim, Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier, and Deanna Stellato and Nathan Bartholomay share their reactions right after their short programs at 2017 Bridgestone Skate America.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YayciE0YiU

Alexa and Chris said the jumps will be there tomorrow.

Hey, so Chris can't jump, I don't care, he's soooo coool, and really, what's our alternative?;)

Homegirl Deanna looks as gorgeous, and can I just be shallow for a minute, I am loving the curl on Nate's hair. He loves his product, and I like it with the curl:D

At this point, maybe Alexa and Chris should channel "Meno and Sand" and just do SBS double axels? With the fall deduction, they actually lost a fraction of a point on the short program SBS element.

Tbh, I haven't seen Chris land a double axel in practice either......I wonder if he is hurt. I haven't seen him land anything this week and even though he has struggled a lot over the years with sbs jumps, he would land some in practice at least. Well, let's hope for the best today and I have high hopes for K/O at Golden Spin next month.

Being in CO could Chris benefit with some ice time with Tom?

I kinda wish they would address it with the media, even tho I know they don't have to. I just don't understand how a team of this caliber can't produce one, just one jump.

I'd say it's more sad than embarrassing that our "top" pair can't do a sbs triple consistently or even once in a while. And two and half years ago Alexa mentioned that they wanted to lead the way to a higher standard for American pairs. Well I'm sorry to say this but though they do have a few superior elements, I don't call being tenth in the world leading the way to anything.

The best I'm going to hope for the FS for Knierems and for D/F and S/B is that they skate as clean as possible and forget about placements.
