I believe Jim and Amanda may have planned the NYC trip in advance, perhaps for the "Mid Atlantic" comp? Jim was IG posting about it two weeks ago.

Nate's tweet yesterday "the uncertainty is real but no matter what we will get through this#TeamFlorida" lead me to believe he may still be in Florida, but that is surmise and could be completely wrong.

I saw no recent tweets on Jim Peterson's Twitter. Here's the latest comment from Tarah that references the storm:

Danny & I have safely evacuated Florida, but both of our hearts are with our family & friends who chose to stay through #HurricaineIrma

Interesting. I was under the impression that Tarah had been in Colorado Springs since Champs Camp. She had been posting almost daily Stories of hanging out with OTC peeps. I assumed she was there for therapy on her knee. She was def still there Labor Day weekend. Maybe she went back after that...

^^ Have Smith/Reiss returned to Peter Oppegard & Karen Kwan in California?

I have family in northern Florida and in Orlando. They weathered the storm, with some trees down and street flooding. Some small bodies of water near homes were drained in anticipation of water levels rising. I'm not sure I'd be able to or want to deal with these type of weather concerns. But I guess it's what you're used to. There actually hasn't been many serious hurricane dangers in northern Florida (per my family who live there) except for the past two years.

I'm told that they watch weather reports and only evacuate if/when told or found necessary. They have to prepare their homes for the onslaught with sandbags and such. And then they are told to stay inside inner rooms in the home without windows, such as closets. :yikes: I experienced a terrible storm in New York once with a lot of tree limbs down. It was surreal and frightening. Miraculously my parked car was covered with tree branches, but there were no dents, cracks and no noticeable scratches either. :saint: It was definitely a miracle, as cars nearby had trees fall on top of them with complete destruction.

I'm glad that apparently all the skaters and their families are doing okay. And I hope every one is on point for their upcoming competitions. :)

Lockley / Prochnow really made me sit up and take notice. More than their elements, their line, posture and ability to interpret as juniors will set them up nicely for the future. Their posture and stroking are probably better than most senior US pairs

^^ I agree that L/P are looking good, and it's nice to see them as a young pair being coached by Brubaker/Berton in Chicago.

Indeed L/P have wonderful lines, graceful carriage, good ice coverage and a great feel for the music, a combination of qualities that are unusual for an up-and-coming junior pair. I hope they stick together like peanut butter and jelly. :)

Jessica Pfund and Josh Santillian had marked themselves as 'safe' on Facebook a couple of days ago.

I saw Jim Peterson, Deanna and Nate at the rink in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.

Congratulations to Cain & LeDuc with a respectable 4th place at Lombardia, and 3rd highest technical score. They are right there with M&H!!!

Looking for some vids!!!!

Yeah. Final group? Maybe not if there are only a few pairs.

Someone noted in the PBP that they were clean including SBS 3F, except she had a hand down on Throw 3Z. Also the twist was higher. I want to check the protocol sheet and see if they are getting levels

^^ TBH, Ash & Timothy are great performers, with an excellent feel for the music. They just need to improve their speed, skating skills and overall polish, as well as finesse lift difficulty and solidify throws and sbs. They are already very good jumpers with better consistency than many teams, and enviable lines and stretch; they do need to eliminate occasional UR tendency (Ash). Great to hear their twist has improved. That pic of them practicing in Italy with Ash so far airborne was boffo! :D I'm looking forward to vids! Waiting is so :wuzrobbed

I'd like to know who Judge #2 is?

Anyway, why can't they livestream some of these senior B comps? :drama:

We need a Ted Barton to strike a deal with ISU for Senior Bs!!! :cheer2:

^^ Thanks for the vid. As fans have been noting, the camerawork is barf-worthy. It looks like they were on zoom-in ill-advisedly or a camera was positioned too close or something! Good grief! Why all the cutting off of half the body of every skater? :drama: The IN photo with torso only shot of Uno is an example of the 'on drugs' schizophrenic camerawork at this comp! :duh: I'm freakin' dizzy and I couldn't finish watching C/L's program. It's like I need to take a sedative for my eyes before I can finish watching. Unbelievable! I just want to see their skating -- their whole bodies please throughout the performance. Stop with all the zoom-ins and cutting.

Why can't broadcasters learn how to use split-screens and keep one view on-screen of the full bodies of skaters whenever they want to go in for an upper body or lower body close-up? I don't think we need to see close-ups of skaters' waists though. They botched JB's 3/3 jumping pass with waist views and out-of-camera views.

ETA:
Okay, the first part of C/L's skate was botched with the camera work, the middle section okay, and then they zoom-in for another close-up when C/L went into their death spiral. :fragile:

Terrible camera views spoiled my ability to actually see and appreciate the performance. What I could make of it, I think it's okay. C/L are quite good with performance and music interpretation. They still need to improve skating skills, speed and refinement. This program for me seems too much a carbon copy of last year's sp. I would like to see something a bit different. Or a different approach with the costuming and choreo. Good improvement on the twist, but it still needs work on the catch and set-down.

I personally do not think Ash has touched down her hand all the time on throws. She has seemed to always bend forward and appear to be saving her landings. Sometimes she reaches with a hand, but if she's actually touched a hand to the ice, it's maybe once or twice. And obviously, she's fallen on some occasions. They just need to work, work, work on perfecting their rhythm, technique, and skating skills.

I'd say C/L have made significant strides as a recently paired team at only the beginning of their second season. But once again, I'd like to see them kick it up a notch with a more creative approach to costume, choreo, and concept. They still have time for that, as I'm sure they need to approach incremental improvements strategically. This is a debut, so maybe they will get better costumes and gain some mileage and consistency throughout the season.

I checked the score. 61+. Not by any means great, but they were scoring in the 50s at their first international appearances

What happened???

Protocol:
http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2017/26189/results.html

Chris popped the jump. I thought they skated the whole program tentatively, as though thinking their way through it. Per the protocol, they also received only a level 1 on the spin and a level 2 on the steps.

FYI, Marchei & Hotarek had about the same score today.

It's the beginning of the season.

And Liu & Johnson finally landed their triple jump! But long long program ahead.

Knierims looked sloowwww and definitely like the program is still brand new. S/B, L/J and D/F looked much more comfortable with their programs. Shame about the spin mistake for D/F. Program is gorgeous and they have lovely connection. The step sequence was awesome.

^^ So it was the spin mistake which kept D/F down in the standings I suppose. Oh boy, re IN. I mean too bad that the building had technical problems with wireless and hard lines (as reported by Hersh). But if it's not that, it's always some other excuse with IN.

Why pay for a livestream service that you can never get live without poor reception, no reception, and endless technical glitches?! I was going to purchase a new subscription, now I have to rethink.

Found this video of U.S. skater reactions to their SPs: :)

SPs
Alexa & Chris:

Haven & Brandon:

(fall on sbs salchow by Haven & trouble on combo spin, but lovely choreo and music)

Too bad that Ash and Timothy struggled on their jumping passes in the FS at Lombardia. It's a nice program, and it's their competition debut with it, so they need to grow into it and get some mileage on it. They will probably land in 5th overall. Nope, maybe they will remain in fourth overall. :) Here's hoping C/L can settle down, sink their teeth into the challenges and continue to steadily improve. They have good programs to work with.

From the looks of it, Liu/Johnson skated really well.

I can't find Liu/Johnson's sp video at SLC, but I recall they had a well-choreographed program at Skate Detroit with nice edgy music choice.

Knierims battle to take third in pairs short in SLC
Canada's Moore-Towers, Marinaro win segment; Liu, Johnson end second

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2017/09/14/254322998

The Knierims, top U.S. finishers at the last three World Championships, lost points when he doubled their side-by-side triple salchows and because they received low levels on their pair combination spin and step sequence. Their skating throughout the program was tentative.
