U.S. Ice Dance 2017/18 season news & updates

Yes but in order to have an adequate pool of folks to pull from for judging you need a wider range of participation in the sports at every level. And these aren't paid positions right?

It is the same reason where you see little baseball(name other sports) players dad also officiating the game.

I am not saying things should be that way but there is a reason for things to happen, and you need to address it at the root level, and be ready to accept some consequences of expanding that pool( like increasing costs in the long run, and that is going to be shared by????)

I believe tech panel officials at ISU events are paid. Judges are not, just covered/reimbursed for travel, hotel, meal expenses. Tech panelists at local comps are not paid, to the best of my knowledge.

Congratulations to Maia and Alex for their win at Rostelecom Cup! I have watched both programs numerous times and keep finding more and more interesting details. The short is almost perfect, just one more level 4. (Don't worry fashion critics, Alex's shirt color will be changed. I love the style of it.) It will be fun to see the free program develop by Skate America. And I fully expect to see them and Maddie and Zack and Maddison and Evan at the final So happy the season is starting off so well!

Also when did we see Blumberg ever on the board with the kids. I’ve never seen her being in any competitions with them...

According to Wikipedia:
During the 2013–14 season, Lewis/Bye were coached by Ikaika Young in Portland, Oregon; by Judy Blumberg in Sun Valley, Idaho; and by Igor Shpilband in Novi, Michigan. In 2014–15, Lewis/Bye were coached by Shpilband and Blumberg in Novi, Michigan.

It's going to be pretty competitive to make the GPF in dance this year. I agree that with their win here, the Shibs are basically locks to make it, as are V/M and P/C. That leaves 3 spots for C/B, H/D, B/S, C/L and W/P.

Madison and Zach go up against V/M at both their events and Madison and Evan are against P/C at both of theirs. So it's unlikely they'll end up with wins. Assuming the Shibs win SA, two 2nds will be enough to get in, but these teams are all so competitive, we could end up with a lot of 2nd/3rds and the tiebreak could matter.

For example, if B/S beat C/B in China, they're in, leaving two spots. Let's say W/P beat H/D in Canada, C/B beat W/P in France, H/D beat C/L in Japan and C/L get the silver at SA. Then all four would have the same results and it would come down to the tiebreaks.

Based on past history I expect new costumes for US Nationals and Olympics. So I am not even considering this the "Olympic costume"

Hubbell/Donohue have a new YT channel and their first 6-minute video is A Day with Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eim62UJG4Z8
Part 1 covers their morning warmups and routines and discusses how they work with coaches Patrice Lauzon, Marie-France Dubreuil, and the entire team at the Centre Gadbois in Montréal.

Spain in 2015, She was at sectionals with them in California the same year... often at practices at nationals ... even last year I think in Kansas City... but not certain...

I didn't see her with them during the junior practice session that I attended at Nationals. My mother & I were watching for her, actually. For a bit we thought she was there, but it turned out that the lady running the gate was also a redhead. LOL.

It's great that they're getting M/C out for as many comps as they can. This will give them four with their one GP assignment.

I wonder if they'll send the Parsons out to Golden Spin (they sent H/B last year) to get in a fourth international event before Nationals as well.

They seem to be trying to give everyone the same opportunities to compete internationally, so I would expect to see Parsons get another challenger if they want. Based on the schedules, I would expect to see Parsons and Hawayek/Baker at Golden Spin, and perhaps Pogrebinsky/Benoit at Tallinn if they don't mind competing two weeks in a row.

Rumors have it that Lewis/Bye were seen training Friday in Canton, MI - which means Zoueva’s rink. Don’t know if it what a one time thing but a coaching change is something they definetly need I think. The old situation just won’t work for them.
I heard that they have officially moved. Chloe and Izzie are very close.

Thanks to Isabella Tobias's IG account, I saw just how close-knit and almost incestuous that whole Michigan ice dance community is.

she was at the pratices at practice rink if my memory is good...anyway she's not the only one in this case, Svetlana is definitely coaching P-V and she's assistant or tech specialist...

I hope Zoueva choreographs Lewis/Bye a new FD. Their current one looks like Igor did a 2-for-1 deal with Lewis/Bye and Carreira/Ponomarenko.

It does not matter. They are her ''babies''. She should not be allowed to judge them.
