The Voice - Fall 2015

Blake should've stolen Dustin instead of Morgan.

Madi vs Amy - This pairing didn't make sense to me just like Jordan/Viktor. I thought I was going to prefer Amy but IMO she didn't take Rihanna's advice.
Maybe she knew she couldn't pull off being sexy and didn't want to look awkward.

Adam Levine on why The Voice has not produce any recording star:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...voice-winners-no-one-knows-what-theyre-doing/

Wherever they go, Levine doesn’t think the people in charge are doing a very good job capitalizing on “The Voice” fame. Mainly, he said, there appears to be no strategic career plan for what to do with the winner once they leave the show and head to a big-time label.

“The rollout of all that is still such a mess,” Levine said. “And by the way, just to clarify, this has nothing to do with what happens on NBC or with the people. In that time, we do so much great s— for these singers, and then they go to a record label that I won’t mention. But they go to a record label that f—s it up.”

-----

I think one of the big problems is that none of the contestants is that interesting once the battle round begins. I find that whatever made them stand out during the blind selections disappears in the battle rounds. The over-the-top and often laughable big production numbers for the final contestants toward the end don't help either.

I like Adam for telling it like it is but would love to know who decided they were God's gift after winning. :D

Quite a few of the early winners were older and just wanted enough name recognition in order to be able to support themselves with music. Beverly McLellan, for example, went from starving artist to self supporting. Being a big deal on a major label wasn't the goal.

Judith Hill has a well-received album out, I noted on ITunes. And she didn't even win.
That's because she got a lot of support from Prince. I received one of those mass e-mails from Prince to check out her album.

Melanie Martinez is being played on college/alternative radio stations. That's probably the only reality contestant singer that is played on college/alternative stations. She recently sold out a show with a capacity of 600. I heard Vicci Martinez played on AOR (Album Oriented Rock) stations.

So, the last of the knockouts were last week. Most were pretty clear-cut but Blake really showed why non-country singers should NOT choose him. Emily Ann was bland and boring, but blonde/country/cute so of course he chose her over Nadjah who IMO was about 300% better and more interesting.

I agree about Nadjah. Her battle was montaged but her knockout was about 200% better than her audition (which I also liked). Emily Ann is good but when Blake chose her over Morgan the writing was on the wall. I don't see anything unique or interesting about her but then I felt the same about Danielle Bradberry. I guess Blake just likes 'em young & cute.

Last night I agreed with most of the knockouts but besides Nadjah/Emily Ann's, I also strongly disagreed with Gwen's choice between Regina & Riley (which was clearly an agreement between her & Pharrell). Regina has a strong voice but her performance was dated & overwrought, & I hated the arrangement of one of my favorite songs. She'll be gone at the 1st elimination. I really enjoyed Riley's performance.

I wonder if Shelby looks at Blake's Emily Ann devotion and thinks "yep, I made the right decision going with Adam." Of course, once the show ends, she might wish she had chosen Blake.

Gwen's decisions are odd. Picking Regina didn't make much sense. And it was weird that she had such a hard time deciding whether to choose Jeffrey Austin. That seemed like a no-brainer to me.

Rumor has it there is going to be some kind of wild card twist next week with some of the rejected singers competing to come back.

He should've stolen Nadja instead of Riley.

The comebacks may come from the battles or knockouts. I hope they bring back Manny or Dustin, Chase, Celeste, Nadjah or Chance or Siahna.

I actually like Riley better than Nadjah but I like both better than Emily Ann. I know it's a different team but Nadjah should be on the show instead of Regina.

I always find it odd when non-country singers go with Blake. He does help many of his singers after the show if they had made it to the live shows but how many of them (non-country) make it to the live shows? And when he has 2 female country singers his preference is always the youngest & cutest. The next step will be: all 5 sing, the voters will pick 2, & Blake will pick 1 out of the remaining 3. IMO if it came down to Shelby & Emily Ann being in the 3 lowest vote getters, Shelby would be toast, when IMO she is clearly better. So yes, she made a good decision to go with Adam.

I like Shelby the best of the remaining country singers. I hope she goes quite far.

Anyone else watching tonight?

I'm a bit :yikes: at Regina's rendition of Adele's Hello. But her style is not my favorite, so maybe she was great.

I think she sang it well, but since downloads are such a big part of the voting, I think that song choice was a big mistake. I suspect most people who like that song will want Adele's which has only been out two weeks.

Plus Adele has performed it live, and hit those high notes in a much better tone than Regina. That video has been shared a lot on Facebook.

eta - I said to my husband just the other day that Ex's and Oh's would make a great song for The Voice. I liked that.

I'm watching while doing some chores, so I'm only catching parts, but I liked Gwen's return artist with Ex's and Oh's.

Many impressive performances tonight! I've never watched The Voice much past the Blind Auditions. So far so good! :)

Still almost as taken as the judges with Jordan's voice. Amy was the other standout for me tonight. Braden made me go buy the original Bread song. ;) his wasn't bad but the oldie is much better.

Jeffrey was my favorite of the night. He continues to be one of my top contestants. But, other than him and Ellie, I don't really care who goes through from Team Gwen. I like Adele and like "Hello," but I did not like Regina's version. People really shouldn't try to cover Adele's songs on this show. I still don't get why Gwen stole Regina or why she kept her. I'm guessing that Regina and Korin will go home. Viktor sang well and people tend to vote for cute, dorky boys like Braiden.

It seems like the show and NBC really want Jordan to win, and I won't be surprised if he does. He's extremely talented, but he's not my favorite or even my favorite on Team Adam. I'm still looking for him to emote more. I really like Shelby. I've liked Amy more in the past; I don't think this song tonight was the right choice for her and not what represents her as an artist. I think Keith and Chance probably are the ones on Team Adam who I'd send home this week. I don't get why Adam chose to bring back Chance. In general, Adam's song choices weren't great. I suspect Keith will be cursing Adam's song choice for quite some time. It was really obnoxious for Adam to say that Keith had just shown people who he is as an artist after Keith pretty much said that he didn't want people to think that this is who he is.

For Adam's team, I think the voters will put Jordan & Shelby thru & Adam will probably choose Amy. He should choose Blaine who did a much better job. I hope he won't choose Keith (who IMO is a poor man's Terry McDermott) or Chance (who isn't ready for prime time & should never have been brought back). Shelby & Blaine are my favorites from his team. I do like Jordan's voice but I didn't like his Halo. Maybe because he isn't Beyoncé.

On Gwen's, I think Ellie & Jeffrey will get the votes. I don't know who she will choose then. Braiden has a gorgeous voice but that song was so wrong for him that he couldn't connect to the lyrics. Viktor's song was too dated as well as having a SNL Wild 'n Crazy Guy vibe. His movements on stage are so hokey. I think Korin took so long to get into her song that by the time she settled into the song I was ready for it to be over. And Regina was just wrong.

I think Adam brought back Chance specifically because he had no chance in hell of getting voted through. Jordan, Amy, and Jeffery are the only ones I see in the top 40 of iTunes, so they will probably all make it through on votes, and if he doesn't pick Shelby he's nuts.

On Gwen's team, Jeffery and Viktor are the only ones who actually sang well, but she gave Viktor a terrible song.

:) Yep, I still have the original vinyl LP. :slinkaway

ETA: Even if his stage presence isn't what it might be, I love Jordan's voice. When Amy was singing, my NBC reception kept flickering out, so I only caught a phrase or two. :(

Here are the iTunes numbers: Jordan #3, Jeffrey #27, Amy #31, Ellie #49, Braiden #68, Shelby #76, Blaine #86, Viktor #87, Chance  #88 (which proves everybody has fans). Or maybe not - Keith & Regina are toast.

BTW Jordan has 2 other songs charting - Chandelier & Set Fire to the Rain.

Thanks. I don't have iTunes so it is nice to know the numbers. I'm surprised that Ellie and Shelby aren't higher- I'd rank them higher than Amy and Braiden.

Zach's dance moves were so cheesey, but his song was a pleasant change from the boring ballads and vocal gymnastics from the first part of the night

As soon as I heard they had these "come back" artists, I figured Nadjah would return. Glad to see her.
