The Grand Prix Final has been cancelled

Wouldn’t it be great to at least hold a Junior G-P Final? This one wouldn’t be tied to the Olympics…different skaters who most likely wouldn’t be vying for senior titles due to age. Don’t throw the babies out with the bath water…

Just a thought -

Should they not hold the GPF in an Olympic season? Skaters are focused on the Olympics, not the GPF. Even worlds have suffered in the past due to lack of some Olympic medal winners.

The ISU could still announce the finalists in each discipline, to recognize their accomplishments, just not hold the GPF event. Skaters can use the time to prepare for the Big prize. They will lose the prize money from the GPF. May be their feds could make up for a part of that loss?

I am just throwing out ideas.

I could see that making sense on the senior level but it's not really fair to the juniors, and they probably need the prize money more.

Then why hold Europeans or 4CC? I realize that a lot of North American skaters don’t attend 4CC if they are Olympic-bound, but the event is also almost 2 months after GPF would typically be held. Nationals across the world come right before or after the GPF as well, and the Russians/Japanese in particular have never seemed to mind.

I think most skaters enjoy the GPF being the end to the first part of the season (it wasn’t always like this) but don’t want it thrown in to a different order later in the year if it happens to be postponed.

How would the Juniors figure into this? Why punish Juniors, who’d dearly love to have their G-P final any year, irrespective of the plans of Seniors?

So maybe Thorngren will be named to Jr Worlds instead of Worlds…even if she might earn top-3 at Senior Nationals? Not so sure that Jr Worlds is the same as the Jr G-P final. ?

I'd be drop-dead shocked if Thorngren and Levito aren't named to the Jr Worlds team along with the junior woman's champ (hopefully that will be Clare Seo). The only reason I can see Thorngren not being on the Jr Worlds team is if she earns an Olympics spot. The USFS has never been shy about sending the top finishers at Sr Nationals who are age-eligible to Jr Worlds unless they're going to 4CCs and/or Worlds.

I would like to propose a "bonus" at both ISU World Championships and ISU Junior World Championships.

If a GP/JGP entrant places in the top six at World or Junior World Champs, they would also receive the applicable GP/JGP prize for their placement.

I know it won't happen but as a former skating parent who paid DEARLY to support a competitor, I wanted to express my feeling that these athletes need the support.

Just my thoughts.

Merry Christmas (belated Happy Chanukah) and Happy New Year to all of FSUNIVERSE.

I think they should hold it.

There was one year when Mao Asada was too young to go to the Olympics, and she said the GPF would be her Olympics - she won it handily.

Does this mean the individual Grand Prix Series competitions will be cancelled as well?

I wonder how long until the ISU pulls the plug on Europeans and Four Continents.
I hope they do it sooner rather than later. Each day people, skaters, venues, coaches, hotels, publicity
These are hard costs that can't be avoided (hotel rooms for example). I know it is a huge disappointment. I think it is the right thing to do.

It would be wonderful. However with inflation rising as well as the cost of things rising. So with inflation, your money is worthless, and buying something costs more. I think it would be wise to cancel it and save the money....as well as the health of everyone.

Couldn't you just be shocked....I would hate for you to be "drop-dead" shocked. What would we do without you?
