The Dance Hall, Part 4: To Helsinki & Back -- Seeking Rhumba Magic ...

I don't think there is any way for them to tell the judges this with the current system. It's not like with jumps where you can use ! e or downgrade symbols. There is nothing like that in the program.
I don't understand why it is so difficult for the judges to just go and inform them ? Sorry if this sounds uninformed but I do not know the actual physical set-up of the judges vs controller, can't the controller simply walk up to them ?

No--Will I ever get initials right? Bobrova/Soloviev.....what do you love about them? What should I look for?

You should check out their last year FD performed at Euros, it was so much better than this year nonsensical FD. B/S are a bit like C/L for me, they are at their best when telling a clear story. B/S do it of course with full Russian flair and drama but they shouldn't try to do abstract IMO, they can't pull it off. I have to say the construction of the program itself was not making any sense so I think no couple could have pull it off, even P/C :D
I will still say she's not the best skater, he's better than her, and specifically check out her extension coming out of lifts. In this year FD, she look a bit like a bag of potatoes. She has a great flexible back though allowing her to do lovely layout like the upside down lift but she can't straighten her leg. They also bend over way too much in this program, maybe they wanted to convey urgency but it just make them look like speed skater as Ben Agosto mentioned in his commentaries. Still, they're fast and have a striking presence on the ice.

I also think skaters were a bit surprised by scores because last year in Boston most couples experienced a significant increase in their FD scores. This year, apart from P/C who exploded their SB, only Stepanova/Bukin improved greatly from their Euros score which was very disappointing and low indeed. I think W/P also received a SB.
Otherwise, C/L and B/S received roughly the same than at Euros except B/S didn't performance as well IMO and should have dropped. However, C/L performed really good here, but I'm not sure it was necessarily better than Euros though. So I was not too shocked by their results tbh.
However S/S scores were a surprise esp. after getting a 115 at 4CC. I thought their performance was tighter and a bit slower here. But I've noticed 4CC scores seems to be more generous than scores at Europeans.

It would be so easy. The Judges know when a jump has been called under rotated and/or downgraded because the symbols < or << comes up on their screen beside the element as it has been called. i.e. 3Lz < This tells the judges that they have to deduct for the under rotation. I am just not sure why they cannot have something in place for the step sequences.

Indeed, it sounds like an easy fix. I mean it's not the first time a stumble happened. They might think about it after the confusion this time around. I also don't think decreasing the SS PCS if the stumble happens outside an element makes too much sense. I think the performance and the quality of the transition mainly suffer from it so I would decrease both those PCS.

The skaters pick their preferences but isn't ultimately up to the GP host federation who decides who to invite meaning that they can ignore the preferences of the skaters? I remember Ashley being disappointed in not getting the GPs she wanted this season.

Yes and weren't the Shibs surprised not to be picked for NHK ?

I second all of this. I don't know why but B/S's "physique" talks to me. They're not the best skaters but I'm interested in what they do. Except, like you said, this year. The only good thing was that lift.

lol yes all these "low" scores resulted in a 11 pts gap between 2nd and 3rd place, which is huge.

Another great news, I don´t have to wait until june to know the assignments for Maia and Alex, what a lucky day, maybe tomorrow they'll announce their music :biggrinbo.

Yes, it appears the deduction from the skating skills in mandatory but optional for the other components.

If only we knew the order of the GP's, we could start the guessing game. We know SC is #2 and SA is #6. Elsewhere someone mentioned RC as #1. If that's the case, I'd venture to guess it's RC, SC, TDF, COC, NHK, SA. Seeds host picks would be events 2,3,6. I'd guess Tessa and Scott would pick NHK. Then it would be up to P/C to prefer an early season event at RC or back to back events in France and then China (all pending on the order of the GP's of course).

I would love for the Shibs or another dance/pairs couple to skate to Uninvited by Alanis Morissette. Gilles/Poirer would do it justice as well and Alanis is Canadian so there is that connection. :-)

Ok, I'm totally curious now.... what do you mean?

OMG nothing!!!, it is the first time I hear that song, and I loved it, I really would love see someone using that song, seems inappropriate for the Shibs, my second favorite team are Smart/Díaz, because of that I thought about them .

eta. And I'm really not sure what the song is about.

Lol. I was like "I know it's already weird that Hubbell is dating Diaz and now Zach is dating Smart, but throw infidelity on top of it all?!"

In his interview with Russian fans Scott said they would love to do CoC, but would have to be invited by Russian Feds. In the past Tessa and Scott have always done well there, and appear to be much loved by the Russians.

It's funny because I got the FD at their first GP event and feel it was unfortunate they had to change it to make so the rest of you could get it.

Oh well, I guess that makes you so much smarter than those of us who took more time to get it. :P The very important improvements that P/C made to their FD is what led to their brilliant performances at Euros and Worlds, btw.

Well, I am sorry, Rostelecom is for the Shibs :p. Seriously, if I were the russian federation, I would not like my teams face to the world champions.

because v/m fans, and v/m themselves, are not allowed to whine and rant and be sensitive. only fans of other teams can rant, and post provocative stuff without being labelled "uber" or "hypersensitive". and as @aftershocks stated, and i stand by it.

apparently this is not bashing of ALL v/m fans:
Here's to Scott Moir, the picky & choosy tech panel, V/M fans, and the judges: :revenge:

Again, I'm basing my comments on what happened at Worlds. As I said, I've been fairly neutral this season re V/M vs P/C. But once again, I give credit where credit is due, and I call it like I see it. I can't even imagine the wrath of V/M fans had D/W ever won over V/M or any other team with an obvious twizzle bobble and a fall (even if it didn't occur on an element). We'd never hear the end of it, ever!

I haven't even come close to some of the ridiculous swipes and comments that OTT V/M fans have made over the years.

yeah because only v/m fans go OTT, and not p/c fans. if you go to youtube videos, the worst swipes are by p/c fans (like calling tessa and scott fat, the worst have even called tessa a slut). rarely have i seen v/m fans go nasty in those videos. yeah, v/m fans are funny

I don't waste too much time reading ridiculous comments by OTT Youtube posters. It's enough dealing with too much negative energy in some threads here. Whatever. At least I respect V/M and their talent, even if I've never been a huge uber of theirs. Some of their fans have been such a huge turn-off over the years. And Scott himself was less than endearing at times. Of course, coming back this season, Scott and Tessa have both been models of virtue. :D

There are all types of fans, and people with different personalities. I don't mind strong opinions and commentary, if it's at least mixed with reason, thoughtfulness, and awareness of all the complexities involved in this sport. Everyone's ego gets out of control at times. But some of the judging decisions can really make a fan of figure skating freak out. I have to tell myself to breathe, and to follow the example of the skaters who understand that they only have power over what they can do out on the ice. And quite often shit happens which they have to deal with and try to get beyond. It's a tough sport that quite often is not fair.

if you think it's not fair to p/c now, it was not fair to v/m all the time in their prior quads too. of course, when a v/m fan says that, they're then labelled "uber" and "hypersensitive"

and then for you to say that you feel censored, and then keep bringing scott's distant past back and expect people not to label you as "uber", "trolling" and "hypersensitive". fair is fair. if you are bitter about scott's past and v/m's win against your favorite team, then understand why some v/m fans can get bitter about their rivals as well

and then for you to say that you feel censored,

Hey, I don't feel 'censored,' that's your shtick! You apparently love skirting over what I've actually said. I enjoy P/C a lot, especially when they are in the zone. But hey, I enjoy a lot of teams, including V/M when they are fab and in the zone. I give credit where credit is due. In other quads, V/M had their hard-working training mates, D/W, to contend with. And some uber V/M fans will obviously never accept that V/M were not always at the top of their game against D/W.

It's some V/M fans who are the bitter ones in more ways than one. Scott and Tessa are blameless when it comes to the excesses of some of their more vociferous fans. And as I said, Scott has been a model of virtue this season, and of course that's always been Tessa's last name. :D

my shtick eh? obviously someone is feeling censored as evidenced below:

So please do allow other fans to speak their minds about the P/C vs V/M rivalry. And thank you.

and only v/m have uber fans? d/w don't have uber fans that can't take the results themselves when v/m won over them? how nice and self-righteous to say

Keep re-interpreting/ misinterpreting and projecting away @zilam98 to suit your error-prone point of view. :duh: :blah:

if someone did not open the thread with such petulant tone/behavior (as someone described scott's past behavior), went down further to suggest more inciting titles that you yourself said "oh these titles are not v/m fans' cup of tea", then of course, there will be no re-interpreting and misinterpreting, right? nor do you even have to back pedal by saying "oh i don't include all v/m fans" when it was not obvious in your first post

oh scott moir, you must have forgotten to kiss the feet of p/c as was apparently required of you. you don't deserve the win because you haven't paid your dues :revenge:
