Thoughts heading into 4CCs anyone?

4CCs:
Technical Specialist: Taehwa Yang
Assistant Tech Specialist: Gyorgy Elek
Technical Controller: Julia Andreeva

So again, we have at least one tough caller (Elek) and one 2018 Olympic panel member (Yang) and one representative from an ice dance powerhouse of the opposition (Andreeva). Though at Euros two of those roles were the same person.

Elek called Finlandia, Nebelhorn, Rostelecom, and was either TS or AT at the U.S. Classic. (I can't remember & the old link via GS doesn't work anymore--maybe because USFS changed their website).
Yang called Cup of China.
Andreeva was the controller at Rostelecom.

I guess if you're trying to figure out what agenda Andreeva might hypothetically be trying to push, Chock/Bates are the team on the rise right now so it'd make sense to try to knock them back a step; though it seems like a lot of Russian commentary's ire is still directed at Hubbell/Donohue for some reason, even though they've been on the back foot all season already.

This is Good for Gilles and Poirier honestly Andreeva might try to knock the US teams and Gadbois, i wouldn`t be surprise if russia and canada have a deal going to have both of their teams on the world podium and block gadbois the judging of the russian judge at skate canada was very interesting.

Well, the rhythm dance is over and C/B and H/D are basically tied, with H/D very slightly ahead. It's interesting that H/D were a smidge ahead in the TES score, but C/B were a smidge ahead in the PCS score. While H/D are on top for now, they know that C/B struggle comparatively in the RD, and they needed to build as much of a buffer as possible to have a chance in the FD and for the overall title.
In the grand scheme of things, both C/B and H/D are around three points behind the scores that P/C and S/K got a Euros. Scores can't really be compared across competitions, but that doesn't bode well for either team for Worlds against them, especially H/D, since their FD hasn't been impressing the judges.
Still, the two teams were looking stronger than at US Nats two weeks ago, and C/B seem to have left the days of level 1 Finnsteps behind them, so a world medal certainly isn't out of the cards.

I would say all three Canadian teams also looked markedly stronger, though they all had visible or semi-visible errors at nationals, so that's a lower bar. But I really have to credit L/L for how much improvement they've made since the start of the season; if they keep moving at this clip, they'll be in a very good place (which is good for Canada, since they've basically got two years to get ready to be our flagship team).

Let's see how the free dance goes. We're a long way from home yet. (And Montreal is a long way from either Austria or Korea). It was nice to see the top teams stepping up under the heat of competition today after rather nervy Nationals.

That's too bad for Kaitlin and Jean-Luc. They had a good RD going. I think they lost about 6 points. They probably would be sitting in 4th at the moment, just ahead of Wang/Liu, if not for that freak double fall at the tail end of their program. :(

Neck 'n neck for Hubbell/Donahue and Chock/Bates... But I think internationally that's how it has played out previously in the RD, which is why it was interesting that Chock/Bates came solidly ahead in the RD at U.S. Nationals (albeit that both teams were very slightly off in the RD at U.S. Nats). But both skated great in the FD at U.S. Nats, with C/B's program being more interesting and captivating which gives them a slight advantage in that respect.

i wouldn't be surprise if russia and canada have a deal going to have both of their teams on the world podium and block gadbois...

All bets are off regarding exactly what's going to happen in Montreal in March! I mean, 'Hello!'

The depth at the top is insane in ice dance, but it's quite clear which teams are more talented. Even though we must wait and see, I don't think it's hard to determine that Gadbois teams will NOT be 'blocked' from the podium. M-F Dubreuil and Patch are Canadian fyi. Worlds is on their turf.

I think it probably would be inaccurate to compare euros and 4cc scores- but H/D and C/B still are 3rd and 4th in RD scores this season- that’s pretty good! I wouldn’t be surprised if S/Ks scores went down at worlds with a different judging panel.

Ice dance Judging is such a joke i could have predicted from a mile away that no matter how Gilles and Poirier skated they would not get level 4 on finnstep thus insuring the american teams would be ahead of them, anyway it looks like Canada will have to swallow their pride for the next 2 years until the top american teams and french retire and Lajoie and lagha become gadbois number one team.

Not that there aren't plenty of things to criticize about ice dance judging, but there's no particular reason to think the Finnstep calling here was wrong or that it would have been called deliberately wrong to hurt them. They got the only Level 4 step sequence in the whole event, for instance.

You know, you could go through and examine Piper's keypoints yourself, and explain how each one was clean. Then you would have an argument. Then your musings might actually make sense. Of course, that would require knowledge and dedicated understanding, neither of which you've ever demonstrated to have.

lol nobody in the general public knows this that is why ice dance is so easy to manipulate people only see twizzles , lifts when there is a mistake nobody watching on tv can tell you the key points.

Do you only root for Canadian teams?

Which translates to:

"I'm not knowledgeable enough to actually assess the respective performances of each team, so I'm just going to let my Nationalism do the talking for me. It's a very subjective sport."
look its clear there is a lot of politics in that sport i am sure Patrice has better connections among judging panels than say Carol Lane at the end of the day that counts nothing that happens on the ice has anything to do with merit.

When the ISU announced the RD theme, and really stressed creativity, originality, looking to the stage for the inspiration, etc, did anyone really picture RDs like C&B or H&D as prime examples of what they were talking about?

Their RDs feel like they could fit into the usual Quickstep/Foxtrot mish-mash OD/SD/RD we've seen other years. It doesn't feel anything like what anyone pictured or was excited about when the theme was announced. Not the ISU, not fans on twitter, not posters here on FSU. But here we are.

There’s been a lot of generic RDs this year. I don’t dislike many but there isn’t many I really love. At least C/B made up for it with a creative FD.
