The Dance Hall 13: When You Dance on the Ice and Your Feet Twizzle Twice, That's Amore

It was Simon. He just was fired from commentating the ISU channel, he’s back at doing Eurosport commentary at the Olympics.

He asked Louise if Lilahs mistake was more severe than Marco Fabbris :shuffle:
I wish that there were a  reaction icon, not that I am mad at you; you are just the bearer of bad news.

:(

Does anyone have a DVR recording of the Primetime broadcast of the Rhythm Dance (Monday, Feb. 9) who could check the end and summarize what Tracy Wilson said about why Chock/Bates received a level 3 in the Pattern Step (PSt3)?

Uhmmm...I am not a technical expert on ice dance (or really anything), but I sure as heck don't see that -1 GOE on FB/C rotational lift. Maybe there is like very slight wobble when I watch that part over and over again, but nothing significant. All judges gave 4 or 5. While I agree that some judges gave them too high GOE from that twizzle, if none of them saw anything in RoLi, I think there probably was nothing to see.
He literally almost tripped on his toepick. I thought he was going to fall. It was pretty bad.

I am in no teknik and can't tell you which move was taking place at the time, but I will give you Tracy's words verbatim:

"Watch Madi's ankle on a deep outside edge, but you can see the foot come up to straight, flip to the inside edge just a hair before she turned."

I think you mean Chris Howarth, not Simon Reed. Simon Reed lost his job a while back for saying inappropriate things on a hot mic.
It's Simon and Louise Walden, former British Ice Dancer.

I know both Chris and Simon. I practically grew up listening FS con both of them. Simon didn't loose his job. He's been commentating the worlds with Louise too.

Tarasova adds her thoughts:

She’s happy Gilles/Poirier have a medal and said the had deserved 1st-3rd for years. She also agrees with the final results but  That she called FB/C, “Guillaume” and only discusses him. It just adds to the narrative that if he could, he would ice dance by himself.

Tatiana Tarasova: I agree with the results; they are correct. At last, the Canadian pair, who for many years deserved to be first, second, or third, won the bronze. Previously, they were left with nothing. The top two pairs were sorted out correctly, in my opinion. Guillaume won – he is more progressive, although the Americans skated beautifully.

Yea Simon Reed is here for Eurosport - and I really like Louise Walden, whose commentating with him.

A lot of people noticed it in real time, including people in the arena. Ice dance is a game of small mistakes, details, and nuances. (Madi's level downgrade in the RD is just one example of that.) Whether it's a level or GOE, IMO, the skaters should all be subject to the same level of scrutiny, and that's especially true when you can see a problem in real time. It's something that drives me crazy in singles when some skaters are getting qs and others - often reigning world medalists - don't even get reviewed. They might win anyway but at least apply the same level of scrutiny to everyone.

The ISU is now responding to the scoring controversy:

“It is normal for there to be a range of scores given by different judge in any panel and a number of mechanism are used to mitigate these variations,” the ISU said, adding it has “full confidence in the scores given and remains completely committed to fairness.”

I don't think that saying that the French judge's repeated and large variations are "normal" is going to help the situation. Ignoring the way that judges can avoid the mitigation efforts also is a problem. It's just not good for the sport.

He could clone himself 🤔

But there was no variation with the RoLi 'stumble', none of the judges noted it, nor did the tech panel.
