Human musicians can't make much money regardless of AI, what with streaming. So, they make money via touring. Will people buy tickets for a concert "featuring" AI artists? I know there are events like that ABBA thing, but how viable is that?

I didn't even know about AI music until the FD thread this weekend.

I am officially on board with the Lithuanians' surge this season. They are well-prepared, and while they are trashy as ever (complimentary), their FD is a breath of fresh air as most everyone else is doing boring, slow, and/or recycled FDs. And obviously the RD is a standout.

Finally caught up with Skate Canada, and it's fascinating to me how all three top teams (C/B, G/F, G/P) demonstrated the importance of doing a Challenger or a senior B instead of debuting at a GP event. And it's significantly more important when they go against a team that had the ability to prepare for the season months before they could. Assuming no injuries were involved (which is the case for G/F and G/P and a question mark for C/B), they all made a very poor decision IMHO.

As many teams this season, Mrazeks had issues to find the right music for the 120bpm requirement. They had Aerosmith in combination with ACDC, but received feedback that Aerosmith was too lyrical. It doesn't excuse using AI, but I'm more blaming the IDTC making it so difficult for the teams, because they want them to go viral on Tik Tok. I'm also blaming Zanni, because of all the teams he is coaching, he does this to the one going to the Olympics. In the end the Mrazeks will get all the criticism piled on them and potentially being a laughingstock at the Olympics.

Needless to say, but I want them to leave Zanni as soon as possible.

Judges: um, there is something wrong in the list published in the result page. They list 2 Canadian judges (and no British one). Kazakhstan is the judge from the country without an entry. Must be a typo because at Gran Prix level the judges must be from different countries. If the British judge was somehow unavailable at the last minute, a panel of 8 (as long as it doesn't drop below 7) would be allowed rather than one with 2 Canadian judges. And anyway, judge from China and Slovakia judging single have also ID qualification.

Edit: indeed, corrected now with GBR in. The 8 countries with en entry + Kazakhstan.

Although it would be boring to a person such as myself who has acquired little knowledge about the finer points of ice dance, it seems this would give a better way to compare across dancers/programs than everyone doing their own thing.
Or maybe I need an explanation of "compulsory" dance which I'm sure someone will be glad to offer here.
PS. This forum is also a way I learn alot about figure skating!

Compulsory dances are the boss. They separate the boys from the men like nobody's business.

Going by the scoresheets, the problems were a) levels and b) a certain lack of polish, manifested in mid-range GOE.

Rusty. They were clearly rusty, and for a team that succeeded through sharp, accurate, polished skating, not character or emotion, rust is fatal.

The Shibs are the literally the only team that actually keep up with their music. In some ways, the music is catching up to them. So much kinetic energy in their midline sequence, twizzles and whatever that stupid boards element is called. No other rd takes me back to my high school days like this one (especially Maia). No one is gonna convince me that the other teams take them back to the 90s.

And with the Koreans from last week and the Lithuanians, it seems only the Asian skaters understand the assignment.

And people describing the Shibs lacking character? Who are these ice dancers exploding with character?!?! Evan Bates? Let’s see Cizeron do the Running Man.

I agree it was better than I expected. And they achieved the rare feat of not looking so much like a cruise ship act.

After 4 GPs of RDs the 90s theme is not getting any better. If the IDTC had at least allowed 30 seconds of the program to be at a slower beat than 120bpm, the dancers might have been able to come up a wider range of music selections.

I thought they understood the assignment, one of the few. The music was appropriate and the dance was not cringy. Why in the world though can't Gui/Fab find their mojo? Are they really past their prime or are the programs just awful? It just seems sad that with the OGs on home soil they look out of the running. A real shame.
