The Dance Hall 13: When You Dance on the Ice and Your Feet Twizzle Twice, That's Amore

Kiliakov is an Israeli citizen. (His parents are as well.) It's what qualified T/K to compete for Israel in ISU competition.
Citizen - sure. Has a passport- not necessarily (I don't know whether he does or does not). IIRC they have to enter Italy with the Israeli passports in order to participate the Olympics.

I don't see anywhere in the ISU Constitution that specifically requires a passport to prove citizenship, whether to compete or switch. I don't know what the permit paperwork requires.

They switched to Israel before the 2021-22 season. I don't know if he became a citizen when his parents did, or if he claimed citizenship later. Whether he got a passport before the 2022 changes, he knows; we don't.

Without some kind of exemption Tkachenko's citizenship and passport sounds dead-in-the-water, at least for 2026. (Laws can change.) They're on the young side for ice dancers, and, unless there's been some bad behavior we don't know about, 2026 wasn't a slam dunk, even if she found her Jewish grandparent in 2021, got citizenship, and a passport before the law change. But in 2022, when the law changed, it shouldn't have been a surprise that, if she tried for a passport after the change, it was a non-starter without a change of some kind.

Even T/K aren't even front-runners for earning one of the four spots at the OEQ: they'd be one of a bunch in their point range. They wouldn't be even if R/A hadn't biffed the RD and have come in at least 18th: in that case, then Lim/Quan, with 177 at Worlds (and 187 at Warsaw Cup) would be at the OEQ seeking a spot.

I agree that they'd be in the bunch of teams in the 165-175 range seeking one of the 4 spots if they'd been sent, but it wasn't a slam dunk - there are about twice as many teams with a realistic shot of earning a spot and then the likes of the Chinese, Swiss & Poles.

They're so young. If they wanted to continue, they could.

They have options.

It seems, though, they've decided to move on.

Thanks for the updated info on acquiring Israeli citizenship, however. Important for all our speculative discussions for the future.

Yeah, it was gonna be tough. (I wasn't ruling them out though. They've put in a lot of time together).

Which 4 do you expect to qualify at the Beijing qualifiers now, seeing that W/L are grossly out of shape, and are not expected to score 180+ by any stretch of imagination (as they did at the interclub comp)?

ReedAmbru, HarChan, YoMori (who have relocated to IAM-O and will have the full backing of IAM to get them qualified in Beijing), and who knows? My gut says probably whichever Italian team is sent - Manni/Roethlisberger or Tali/Lafornara.

On the Italian Fed internal calendar, there is a competition called "Gara pre Qualificazione Olimpica", only for Ice Dance, scheduled in Milano on 26-27 August.

I guess it is where they decide which couple to send to Beijing
Either way, no one on chinese social media will mind if you send a few corrupt judges along with them, and this applies to every country judging there!

For sure.
There may also be the Switzerland-Ukraine-Turkey-whatever the 4th country was in the secret alliance ISU was afraid about last season.

Feds with entries are entitled to send a judge (ISU level is required). If more than 9 judges are nominated, there will a rotation of judges between RD and FD.
The technical panel is nominated by ISU and not by the organizing Fed (like in Challengers and B events)

I don't think there's a need for corrupt judging. They were already on the downward trend in 2022-23 due to his back injury and their scores only kept falling the following season at the one GP they made it to. Their scores went from 184+ at the Winter Olympics to 174+ at NHK 2022 & 165+ at GP Espoo 2022; and then 160+ at SCI 2023, which was their last international comp. Nothing about that score trajectory or the time they've spent not competing in the intervening 2 years makes me believe they're going to be in the mix for an Olympic spot even with a CFSA push. At best, they may be in line for a Team Event-only spot provided they can earn Olympic spots in Women & Pairs instead.

Out of curiosity, what was their total score at the Beijing Inter-Club comp this week?

The RD for the Quebec event is tonight.

If my time zone converter math is correct, the Quebec senior RD is at 6:00 p.m. Pacific here:
(Again that's Pacific. You would need to do your own math backward).

Also, you can check that math for accuracy and/or look up the junior RD time using the actual schedule here:

Starting order is here:

Reed & Ambrulevicius, Harris & Chan, Lauriault & LeGac, and Fabbri & Ayer are all still listed.

Fabbri/Ayer withdrew per Danielle Earl's tweet https://x.com/danielleearl93/status/1953803120858878276?t=AMn3GSFXTX_fLW-q5VRvzA&s=19

New interview with Mrazkova/Mrazek

It's a very long one. They talk about their new programmes, training conditions in Czechia vs Italy and their decision to switch to ice dance. Their RD is to AC/DC. They had Aerosmith mixed in, but the judges at the training camp in Czechia didn't like it.

I have absolutely no clue who they are anymore, but let's all pray they and about 5 others beat W/L just in case.
In case if you were serious: Manni/Roethlisberger - decent and experienced veterans who have been to several Euros and Worlds, Tali/Lafornara - the newest World junior champions, very talented, looked like seniors skating among juniors, but real senior competitions are very different.

I'm 1000% serious. You'd be surprised how easy it is to forget these people once you ignore the sport for several months and immerse yourself into work.

Love the concept/potential for that FD but I can tell it’s going to give me a high heart rate all season. 😨
Me too! Gosh that one foot step sequence! And all those new lifts... But I hope they get rid of the headstand in ChSt...and maybe clear up the opening flip a little bit.
