The annual "what music would you suggest to skaters that has not been overused or used (lately) in competition?" thread

I'd like for someone to skate to a Copland medley: Rodeo (Ranch House Party,Saturday Night Waltz), Sonata for Piano and Violin (First Movement); Hershy Kay's Western Symphony. I specifically would like to see the latter for Anna and Martin. I'd love to see a La Bayadere program that wasn't just from the Kingdom of the Shades...for a Pair, Dance Team or Male.

I mentioned this in a prior thread, it had been a while since Rodeo was used in a program until Alexei Krasnozhon used it for the free skate in 2017.

It'll be interesting to see if Duskova/Bidar will have a more permanent training base in Montreal - that may influence who choreographs their programs next season.

Glazunov is so underused, it's actually criminal. From this Pyeongchang Cycle, I think only Xiangning Li had a program from him, then Virtue/Moir in the Sochi cycle.

Re: Warsaw Concerto - I think Nobunari Oda was the last top flight skater to use the piece.

Another very nice soundtrack that has recently been re-recorded and released is the one for the "Sissi" movies which made Romy Schneider famous in the mid-50s by Anton Profes.
Youtube only has rip-offs of the opening themes of the three movies, but the CD with the better quality recordings is absolutely affordable:

Also imagine the costume possibilities. The movie certainly had exquisite costumes, probably among the best ones in movie history.

Carmen (and its' variations) have been used quite a bit in the last 8 years. I hope this music is retired for a while.
Next time, try noticing emoticons and following embedded links. It may save you from embarrassing yourself. :saint:

Danzón No. 2 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez
I found the Danzon rhythm just the last year or two. It's a wonderful alternative to the tango. I would love to see it added to the dance rhythms. Just coming back to say - I think this piece could become a skating war horse if someone would find it, cut it, and use it successfully.

https://youtu.be/MBKgImLvEaQ?t=44 I've been told the city of Veracruz sort of shuts down in the afternoon and people danzon in the squares. I like it.

Anything by Ella. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qvwTPKOI6Q&list=PLuw7YdvweJdRbOUmvdE5xjAgJ-cA1ReHZ

As for my wishes. I would love for someone would do a good job with Begin the Beguine.

https://youtu.be/z6BS4TrfFOI?t=10 Jo Stafford - my favorite vocal version.

What other new film soundtracks (besides The Greatest Showman mentioned above; eta: @Twilight1, Bradie is skating to "This Is Me" and Karen to "Never Enough" on the U.S. SOI tour) do people expect will be popular with (overused by) skaters in the coming season?

Has anyone in the recent couple of Olympic Cycles used Ragtime, the 1996 Stephen Flaherty musical (not the 1981 Randy Newman soundtrack)?

The only skater I can remember using it was Matt Savoie, in the early 2000's ?

This is not recent but it the fall of 1998, there was a terrific show the we saw live in Phila., PA - "Skaters' Tribute to Broadway." It was aired nationally a few days later on one of the cable channels. The whole cast skated to the beginning part of "Ragtime" @ the beginning of the show.

I can almost recall the collective audience groan at 1996 World Junior Championships when every second lady skated to Don Quixote.

Where is that Maggie Smith meme from Sister Act exclaiming, "Silence Begins Now!"

Oh yes ! Here is an example by french skater (now a pair skater) Noel Antoine Pierre :

'Pavane' by Faure. Old music but I don't remember anyone using it for a skating program. It is beautiful.
Beautiful indeed, but it was an advertissement for a french perfume in the 80's... so I can't help to think about this ridiculous ad when I listen to that music LOL :

Talking of ads, whenever I hear the 'Diamond music' (Composer Karl Jenkins) I think of Shen & Zhao's SP at the 2001 worlds. We don't hear that music now but that ad was played many times those days.

Repeating myself from the Zagorski/Guerreiro thread:

A few war movies with good sountracks (not exactly uplifting or clap along material though):

Alexander
Pearl Harbor
Letters from Iwo Jima

Game of Thrones! I think if searching and cutting carefully, something really good could come out. It doesn't even need to include much of the main theme, but lots of pieces have great build. Paul Fentz did a good job imo for his FS.

Just from season 6 (I'm sure there's lots more):

Needle
Khaleesi
Light of the seven

Something abstract and avant-garde
The Fountain OST (Clint Mansell) (with an edge of darkness)
music by Balmorhea

Rarely used (if ever?) musical drama:
Hercules (Handel)

There is never enough
Joe Hisaishi (soundtracks of most of the Studio Ghibli movies)

Besides the usual Mars and Jupiter parts:
Holst - The planets

Someone needs to skate to
Planet Earth II soundtrack
this is amazingly varied - lots of good pieces to choose from, take the time to go through the album

Instrumental versions (not cheap music, actually good covers, don't judge from the titles ;) )
Toxic - Yaron Herman Trio (Jazz cover)
Blackbird (The Beatles, guitar cover)

I really need someone to skate to the 'Stranger Things' theme lol - there are extended versions out there that aren't bad - I"ll try to add one in soon.
The Red Violin soundtrack is beautiful and I"m sad that hardly anyone has used it since Michelle Kwan.
Jason Rowan's Venice Masquerade - I just found this piece and I think it's unique.
The Planet Earth soundtrack
The Aquarium by Camille Saint-Saens
Cosmos sountrack from the show with Neil Degrasse Tyson
The Secret World of Arrietty or music from any Studio Ghibli film
How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack by John Powell

Someone upthread mentioned Ramin Djawadi's 'Paint it Black' from season 1 of Westworld and ITA, and I'll add Heart-Shaped Box from the season 2 trailer.
