Swimming & Diving thread

I feel like this is probably a dumb question, what is it about Indiana that makes it a hotbed (relative to its population) of great swimmers? ?

All the athletes that are too short for basketball, but tall enough for swimming.

Plus 8 Men's NCAA Division I programs, and 10 Women's Division I programs representing 400+ scholarships.

Thanks - it just seemed so disproportionate. It’s like there’s as many swimmers from Indiana as states like Texas, California, or Florida.

Women’s 100m fly: I’m getting worried for Lydia Jacoby. ?

Please tell me that Lily King is no longer the same brat………

If only the Olympics allowed 3 entries from a country like they used to in swimming instead of just 2 there is so much depth in the US that a potential medalist is kept off the team finishing 3rd like Regan in the 100m butterfly.

I’m glad that Simone Manuel made the 4x100m free relay. ?

This ?? relay looks good! But I’m now sure if this will beat the ??.

Total class reaction from Caleb Dressel at the times from the top 6 men in the 100m free! Even with the disappointment he must have been feeling at finishing 3rd, he's still all in and focused on our men winning the 4x100m relay.

The NBC producer should have ended that garbled interview with Ryan Murphy's mom after the first question where it was evident the connection was bad and no one would be able to understand her.

And there are WAY too many commercials. Peacock is getting on my last nerve.

I confess I splurged and spent $6 to get the version without ads. I still get the NBC promotions on the live broadcasts. I think it's worth it for 2 months, for my own sanity and peace of mind.

I feel like public proposals are fine if a) you've discussed marriage and know you are on the same page and b) know for sure the person you are proposing to specifically finds them romantic.

However, this feels like taking her moment and making it about him. And I never like that.
Yeah, it had a weird vibe to it that I couldn't quite pinpoint but I think you nailed it. I kept wondering as it was happening "what if she only says yes because she's got an NBC camera in her face and she gives the ring back after the Trials are over?"

I was watching the US Nationals for Tumbling & Trampoline one year it was being streamed on YouTube (I think it was during covid times, but it may have been earlier) and there was a suuuuuper awkward proposal in the middle of the competition. I don't even think the woman being proposed to was done with her competition that day, lol. She looked really perturbed about it but said yes anyways. I looked her up on Instagram to see if she ended up married to that dude. She definitely has a significant other but I don't remember what the other guy looked like so I don't know if that's the same one but there are no wedding pics on her page and she doesn't wear a ring in any of her pictures. She just might not be a jewelry person, so who knows. I have gotten no answers but I will always remember that cringey proposal!

I thought the whole thing was cringeworthy.
But I guess she will get a lot of attention at the Olympics now from NBC and you poor souls who have to watch through their broadcast will get to relive it every single prelim, semi and final she swims and a relay as well. So about 7 times

Yes exactly - he pulled the focus from her professional accomplishment to his 'romantic' gesture. That was her time to shine buddy, not yours.

Especially when you see the entire clip. Pretty much everything he said was, “I felt like I’ve done a pretty good job of handling it…….the crowd has really helped me…..dropping my job and moving halfway across the country……”, GEESH! ? ?
