You are a pathetic, nasty piece of work, you know that?

A mass shooting in America is not at all a shocking thing because people like you let any fcuking lunatic who wants one buy a fcuking gun and then you wonder why shit like this happens!

Yeah, he lives in a state where you can have however many of whatever type of guns you want without a background check or a permit. Hardly sounds like a Hillary supporter to me.

So, NBC Today Show commentators (they brought Tom Brokaw in) and reporters out in Las Vegas said he seemed to have shot out of two windows. The holes are around the bend from each other, perhaps 12 windows between the two, and therefore at different angles. They think he might have had a suite or two rooms, therefore are wondering if he was a high roller who might have been upgraded, that might be speculation on anchor's part. Shooter had checked in Thursday. Apparently he was known to local police, but not federal. If 50 are dead, and he wounded 100s, there will surely be more deceased.

It's going to come to a point where we will be scanned for weapons everywhere we go.

Trump just announced he is going there Wednesday, okay...

I think I have to turn off the tv or go out, this is nasty sad stuff.

Guns are the means to a cause, whatever the cause may be. This man did not nor should we allow him to be named as having mental issues.

The man and his wife are terrorists, plain and simple. But as he is a) white, b) a US citizen and c) someone who should have not guns. unfortunately, he will not be named a terrorist but a man with a mental illness by the white dominated media/society. ::angryfire:

Prayers for all the people, those who died, those are injured, those who witnessed or standing by the dead/injured, for all the families, for the first responders, the hospital employees and all of Las Vegas.

He was a terrorist and should not get an "insanity" reason.

I heard the news this morning while driving to work. I turned on my car radio/sports channel. Before talking about sports they reported this. Until then I had no idea this had happened. As shocking and tragic this is, unfortunately we have seen too many of these. The venue and details of the story change but it's pretty much the same story- someone who should not have a gun/guns, gets weapons that can kill many people in a short time. Somehow nobody noticed a strange behavior. Innocent people died. In this case a lot of planning must have taken place. I have stayed in many Las Vegas hotels. I wonder how he was able to find the exact room, with the right spot, and how he was able to bore a hole in the window without the hotel knowing it? I hope the law enforcement will rigorously interview the hotel staff.

This is heart breaking for so many. My sympathies to the families who lost loved ones and/or got injured. Some who escaped must have been traumatized. :(

I have a sense of hopelessness that nothing will be done about preventing such incidences in the future. May be everyone will start carrying guns, creating the possibility of even more people getting shot. There will be pressure on Nevada to change their gun laws but will they? Even if they did, all it takes is one person finding a loop hole. They will talk about the tragedy and express their sympathies but ultimately no action will be taken. That is the greatest disrespect to the victims.

All we can do to protect ourselves is to avoid large crowds- that means sports, entertainment and may be political venues. I can't give up movie theatres or an occasional concert. We still have to take our chances and live a normal life.

Once again proving that ISIS would take responsibility for anything, natural disasters included, if they thought anyone would believe them.

It's already debunked. The shooter had no religious affiliations according to his family. Most important, no jihadi shoots himself before the police get there, it's never happened, it's a major sin by their lights.

I don't want to get into a debate on what qualifies as terrorism, but usually there needs to be some type of coercion intended. Attacking a mosque, a Black church or traditionally Black establishment, a gay bar, a place frequented by a religious or ethnic minority (or majority), a government institution..... absolutely terrorism. This just seems to be indiscriminate murder for no reason :(. Why shoot and kill random people at a concert?

Ironically, I was looking a couple of days ago at a book on Amazon about the Columbine killings. Apparently the book uses the term "spectacle murders."

Here's my wild-ass guess. The shooter's girlfriend is overseas. Maybe she left him? Despondent and alone?

I have no idea and am just wondering.

Also my husband and other Israelis are just dumbfounded, just as with Orlando last year. They think we are safer here and I think they're right.

Under The circumstances, authorities should go get her and bring her back to this country before she disappears.

Until I am proved otherwise, I think she is mixed up in this mess. Apparently one report said that she worked for the Mandalay Bay. If that is true, it is possible she could have hid some of the weapons inside little used utility closets and the like. If she is involved, then she should be charged with 58 counts of 1st degree murder and 515 counts of assault with attempted murder.

I am sure that with time we will find out more about the shooter. I wish these murderers wouldn't kill themselves. I want them to face a trial, and give us a chance to see how they became this, why they committed these venomous acts. Of course they are not thinking of helping the authorities. They are cowards.

Do they have a motive yet? Not that it matters to the dead and wounded.

Was this guy or his girlfriend fired from Mandalay Bay?

Did the nutcase hate country music and its (mostly) conservative followers?

Was he a "loco" off his meds?

A friend of mine was eating dinner at the casino when people ran in screaming off the streets. He heard the shots, and the hotel staff took everyone in the restaurant three floors below ground to a secure area. I can't imagine the terror.

Sounds like a well trained staff. Sad to say, this type of training will become the norm.
At a time like this where you are somewhere you are not familiar - having trained staff at places like this can be so helpful. With this event - I am thinking so many of the victims are from all over the country/world.

I heard a bit on tv this morning is discussing the killer, something is codeified? - possible employment issue at a hotel?

Re - politics. I live in a blue state, Connecticut - where Sandy Hook occurred. We have politicians that are fighting for this (US Senators Murphy and Blumenthal regularly read the names of the victims on the floor of the senate).
But the gun lobby/NRA - is where the big money is and has the influence.
Most people I know just don't understand why someone needs these weapons.
I hate to sound pessimistic, but if after Sandy Hook- no changes, nor Pulse and others, I am not optimistic for any changes out of this horrific event either.

The FBI is in the process of interviewing the family of the assailant, including his 90 year old mother.
Apparently, she may have been the last person he contacted.

They are in complete shock over the tragedy.

An interesting quote from trauma surgeon, Dr Amy Goldberg.

Goldberg jumped in. “As a country,” Goldberg said, “we lost our teachable moment.” She started talking about the 2012 murder of 20 schoolchildren and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Goldberg said that if people had been shown the autopsy photos of the kids, the gun debate would have been transformed. “The fact that not a single one of those kids was able to be transported to a hospital, tells me that they were not just dead, but really really really really dead. Ten-year-old kids, riddled with bullets, dead as doornails.” Her voice rose. She said people have to confront the physical reality of gun violence without the polite filters. “The country won’t be ready for it, but that’s what needs to happen. That’s the only chance at all for this to ever be reversed.”

Another mass shooting - sadly it does not shock me anymore. It's happened too many times for the world and the US to deny this is who we are right now and it's part of culture. I don't have much hope that anything change from this tragedy. If nothing changed much after Newtown CT(sandy hook school) when 6 year olds were murdered....

Per Senator Chris Murphy(D-CT) " This must stop,” he said in a statement. “It is positively infuriating that my colleagues in Congress are so afraid of the gun industry that they pretend there aren't public policy responses to this epidemic." We as country, especially the house and senate should think about when they make statement like of "prayers and condolences to the victims and families" without taking measures to prevent this from happening on the regular are really empty.

Sad to say, but I don't think we'll EVER be able to change gun legislation.

My thoughts exactly. I think we as a country (politicians in particular) are morally bankrupt. Why is money or adherence to a misunderstood second amendment more important than human life? We don't know much about the gunman yet but the fact that he was able to get the weapons easily and operate from a very well known resort/casino just goes to show how easy it is to kill a lot of people in a very short time.

Mass shootings happen in other countries too, but not at this frequency. This is totally and deeply ingrained in our culture, and so is ignorance. I see no hope at all. I gave up hoping after nothing was done after the shootings in Sandy Hook.

I think it's likely he had been dumped or felt he deserved more when it came to women or had a history of domestic abuse, because it seems like hating women is a common thread among mass shooters. :/

It's devastating how commonplace this kind of tragedy has become. It's not normal, though, but I have no expectations of it getting better anytime soon.
I live in Connecticut, and I really thought Sandy Hook would be the last straw. It certainly changed the gun laws here, and I thought the rest of the country would follow- it only seemed natural. The fact that we (Congress, really) continue to allow this to happen is unreal.
RIP to those who were murdered, and hoping for easy recoveries for those who were injured.

The assailant had ties to my area of Central Florida, before moving to Nevada.
His family still lives in Orlando.
