Shooting in Las Vegas

My older son is going there on Thursday. There is Riichi Mahjong Worlds, where he is competing.
I hope the injured ones will make it.

The work of Antifa types? Shooting at a bunch of white country-music lovers.

Just so freaking awful, but again we are getting normalised to this sort of thing happening sadly. A mass shooting in America? An Isis attack in Europe? They happen too often.

Makes me sad. So sorry for all involved of course, looks like it was a lovely evening before some twat job let loose.

Gunman fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Hotel. Police broke down door and killed him. A possible accomplice still at large but they have splashed her picture over all the media so it is just a matter of time before they get her as well.

Death toll now 50 with more than 200 injured. Gunman identified as a 64 year old white guy who was from Las Vegas.

They are going through his computer to figure out why he targeted the area he did.

They've brought the female in for questioning. Apparently, her name is on the record for their home in Mesquite.

Victims are not (predominantly) gay, black, Muslim, Jewish or other minorities. Neither was the shooter, a 64-year-old white man.

It's the guns, stupid.

You could tell the shooter was a white man (aide from the fact tha it usually is) because they didn't call it terrorism.

What kind of gun does this man have that he was able to kill and injure so many from a distance? No one needs that.

I'm very sorry for the victims and their families :(

Son of a bitch. Just found out my son-in-law's parents are in Las Vegas.

A friend of mine was eating dinner at the casino when people ran in screaming off the streets. He heard the shots, and the hotel staff took everyone in the restaurant three floors below ground to a secure area. I can't imagine the terror.

It's beyond insanity that one person can kill so many people so quickly. Every time we have the deadliest mass shooting, another one comes along that a bit deadlier. Sandy Hook, Pulse Orlando, and now this.... I have no hope that anything will ever change when it comes to gun control in the US. :(

A good friend of mine was involved in the mass shooting at the Fort Lauderdale airport earlier this year; his MacBook took the bullet, thank god. I can't believe I now have another friend caught up in a mass shooting incident. God help the USA.

Fully automatic which can fire multiple rounds within seconds. He apparently reloaded several times. Many more would have died if the swat team hadn't got to his room when they did. There would have been muzzle flashes from the window which would have led them to the shooter.

Except the US *could* at least take the most frigging basic steps to help prevent this happening and obstinately refuses to. :wall:

And at this point it's on the voters. Period.

So sorry for everyone affected. :(

This is absolutely devastating and heartbreaking. My deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the victims and their families. But what is just as devestating is that this still won't change the minds of anyone who feels they have the right to own a semi automatic or fully automatic rifle - and not just one but several. Nevada apparently has some of the most lenient gun laws in the USA and nearly anyone who wants a gun can get it. I have no idea how to change the minds of that group which keeps spouting their right to bear arms. It's just madness. :(

Fully automatic weapons are essentially banned in the US. Now it's possible that the person legally put a bumper on a "semi-automatic" rifle, but to my ears it sounded like a fully automatic weapon.

On the news they said that the smoke from the shots set off the smoke alarm in his room.

What a senseless tragedy.

ABC News is reporting that the gun the shooter used is illegal and "difficult to obtain even on the black market." How he got it, I guess they don't know yet.

God have mercy on all those poor people and their families. :(
