It is quite possible that she was 5'4" but is shorter than that now. She is 91 years old.

I believe QEII barely measures over 5' now. She may squeak to 5'1". Good to see the Duke looking well. I think the fact he is on the run down to his retirement has made him more relaxed. I will miss seeing him at HM side.

I liked the bodice of Kate's dress in the 1st picture & the jewels are fabulous but the dress is just blah & the sleeves are hideous.

I liked Kate's dress. I thought it looked good on her. The muted shade was kind of a nice counterpoint to the bling of the jewels. My only question was the neckline--I thought it was somewhat daringly low for a royal. (While for an actress or pop star, it might be conservative.) OTOH, it's the V-neck cut of the neckline, both front & back, that kind of makes the dress interesting. So I'm not sure it would have worked with a higher neckline.

That the Duchess is being loaned ever more important jewels; is a sign that her status and importance within the family is increasing.
It's good to see.

Makes sense - especially as the Duke of Edinburgh is stepping down from public duties come the autumn. The Queen is already decreasing her patronage and public duties - albeit slowly - so Charles and Camilla will be representing the Queen more and thus Williams role will increase as will Kate's. I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't finally honoured with Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II in the near future. The Countess of Wessex was honoured 2004 and then Camilla in 2007 so I think the time is ripe. Another thing I noted that Prince Harry was at a state dinner for the first time - his role is starting to grow as well.

It was shorter when she went to Wimbledon, also.
I like it.
The cut allows her more options; and is still long enough for an "updo", when appropriate.

Kate looks much better with the shorter hairstyle; the longer hair looks heavy and ages her. This is much more fun.

I miss Queen Letizia's bob from a couple of years back. That was excellent.

A weekend of celebrations for Crown Princess Victoria's 40th Birthday; with lots of family photographs:

Yay, traditional dress for CP Victoria, all the Swedish royals, and Lenore being darling :cheer2: Oscar's resemblance to Estelle at the same age is uncanny.

Now, I realize that she is very pregnant, but why did Princess Sofia decide to wear upholstery?

I felt so bad for Prince George today. He looked like he was awakened from a nap just before getting off the plane in Germany and he was not at all interested in being brought out for a photo op. Princess Charlotte showing off her curtsey before they left Poland was too adorable.

Here's video of the Cambridges when they got off the airplane on the first stop of their west European tour, in Poland.

It was raining slightly and overcast. Prince George had likely just woken up and he wasn't too thrilled at seeing the crowd of people and the rain apparently, as it took some coaxing to get him off the plane. Obviously, shyness can take over at that age, despite the fact he's used to seeing crowds of people on occasion. I like how Will & Kate are hands-on parents who spend a lot of time nurturing their children. Prince George and Prince Charlotte are allowed to act like normal young children their age (with some firm yet gentle guidance), and that's nice to see.

Indeed the birthday portrait of George is the sweetest. His dark brown eyes are so dashing and mischievous. He's surely going to break a lot of hearts with his good looks. But his parents are helping him to form a kind and strong character. I suppose his hair will remain blond. The blond hair with dark eyes is so attractive. He takes a lot from his Mom and Middleton Grandpop I think, with Windsor knock-knees and Spencer charm.

Here's Grandpop Middleton: http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/news/speci...g/family_tree/img/michael_middleton_getty.jpg

Kate takes a lot after her Dad. Both of Kate's parents have royal-related roots which makes Will & Kate surprisingly 11th cousins once removed.

And this delightful article about Queen Elizabeth is so refreshing. QE II likes to dance to ABBA's Dancing Queen, and she enjoys singing too. If not born to be Queen of Great Britain & Commonwealth, perhaps she may have been a dancer and singer!

HBO Documentary on Diana, Princess of Wales to air on July 24. Video excerpt and article:
http://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a10330339/diana-our-mother-documentary-poster/

Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. The above article includes a pic of the documentary's poster. A wonderful design based around one of the many lovely photographs of Diana posed casually with her young sons.

The video excerpt of the documentary includes an apt quote from Diana during one of her speeches where she passionately addresses the importance of nurturing young children. She did a fine job with her sons, even despite her marital unhappiness and her regrettable mistakes. She's no longer here to tell her own story. Her sons wish to celebrate the positives of her memory and her legacy of love.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are apparently vacationing in Africa, for real this time. There's been such a slew of made-up nonsense about these two. Today is Markle's 36th birthday. I won't link to the awful tabloid that scooped this real news with a photo of Meghan & Harry smiling as they walked together after landing. She was carrying what appeared to be a wrapped gift.

So Prince Henrik of Denmark has thrown a hissy fit and decided that when he dies, he's not going to be buried beside his wife. http://www.npr.org/2017/08/03/54140...-henrik-says-he-won-t-be-buried-with-his-wife

Now, putting aside the fact that a King is considered a higher rank than Queen (which is stupid, but this is the monarchy we're talking about) so being referred to as King Consort is ridiculous, he knew full well when he and Queen Margrethe got married that she would be Queen and he would be Prince Consort. And if she dies first or chooses to abdicate, Henrik's son Crown Prince Frederik would automatically outrank him, so he'd still be considered a lesser royal. The family has said they knew Henrik's wishes and have accepted them, but I still think this is insulting to QMII. SHE is the one in charge, not him.
