Hi there Skatefans...
As you can likely tell from my earlier update, Lee had a great morning... she moved and wiggled everything and did what people asked for. If you know Lee, you know how strange that is!
She responded to questions with her beautiful, expressive eyes, hands and even tried to talk a little. Sounded a bit like a cross between Animal and the Swedish Chef on the muppets, but she tried. She smiled, raised her eyebrows and wrinkled her nose, in all the right places.
Except when the doctor came around... then she imitated a fallen tree.
She has a tracheostomy (since Saturday) to let her throat heal.. she was intubated for 16 days, and she is breathing on her own with no respirator, no drugs to support her pressures, and is doing very well, physically.
But we also discovered (on the weekend) that she can't reabsorb her own cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF)... not an uncommon thing for sub-arachnoid hemmorhage patients.. and so she needs another operation to implant a PV shunt to regulate fluid pressure in her brain.
That operation is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so I'd ask you to keep her in your thoughts tomorrow.
Tonight, Lee is resting comfortably, and watching a little TV. I hope tomorrow am starts as well as today did.
Looking back on how much my beautiful bride has endured to get to this point brings tears to my eyes, and there is still a long way to go.
But looking at all the support coming from Lee's friends buoys us considerably, and helps us to keep going on this journey. More to come...
