Oh my goodness, I haven't been in Great Skate Debate much this fall and missed this till now. I have known Lee online for so many years; she's a big part of how I found my way to FSU. I am glad to hear today is better than yesterday. I am wishing that she keeps improving day by day. Two steps forward, one step back is frustrating, but it is still one step forward! Thanks so much Gerry for keeping us posted, and make sure you take care of yourself too! That part is hard.

Gerry, thank you for the updates. I wanted to add, please please take care of yourselves (you and your family). It's going to be a long road and I'm certain that while Lee is grateful, she must be also concerned about you and your family's health.

Hi there Skatefans...

As you can likely tell from my earlier update, Lee had a great morning... she moved and wiggled everything and did what people asked for. If you know Lee, you know how strange that is!

She responded to questions with her beautiful, expressive eyes, hands and even tried to talk a little. Sounded a bit like a cross between Animal and the Swedish Chef on the muppets, but she tried. She smiled, raised her eyebrows and wrinkled her nose, in all the right places.

Except when the doctor came around... then she imitated a fallen tree.

She has a tracheostomy (since Saturday) to let her throat heal.. she was intubated for 16 days, and she is breathing on her own with no respirator, no drugs to support her pressures, and is doing very well, physically.

But we also discovered (on the weekend) that she can't reabsorb her own cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF)... not an uncommon thing for sub-arachnoid hemmorhage patients.. and so she needs another operation to implant a PV shunt to regulate fluid pressure in her brain.

That operation is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so I'd ask you to keep her in your thoughts tomorrow.

Tonight, Lee is resting comfortably, and watching a little TV. I hope tomorrow am starts as well as today did.

Looking back on how much my beautiful bride has endured to get to this point brings tears to my eyes, and there is still a long way to go.

But looking at all the support coming from Lee's friends buoys us considerably, and helps us to keep going on this journey. More to come...

Thank you for this, Gerry. I will certainly have Lee and you in my thoughts tonight and all of tomorrow. I hope the surgery turns out well. Also, I just dropped my postcard in the mailbox. :)

I will definitely keep Lee in my thoughts tomorrow; I think of her all the time... which is odd since we aren't really friends. But she's always been such an integral part of the community here. I am looking forward to when she comes back to cheer, commiserate, and snark with us again- whenever that may be.

@Gerry please take care of yourself, and thanks for the updates.

I'll will be thinking about all of you tomorrow. It sounds like she's progressing very well...hugs to all.

Thank you for the update. Glad to her she had a great morning. I will keep her in my thoughts for the surgery tomorrow and hope all goes well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to update us all. So good to hear that she is improving. Will certainly be thinking of you all tomorrow.

She responded to questions with her beautiful, expressive eyes, hands and even tried to talk a little. Sounded a bit like a cross between Animal and the Swedish Chef on the muppets, but she tried. She smiled, raised her eyebrows and wrinkled her nose, in all the right places.

No wonder Lee loves you so much. This made me smile and tear up at the same time. It's comforting to know Lee has such a loving, caring, and positive person by her side throughout this difficult time. She deserves nothing less.

Fingers crossed that the surgery goes well, Gerry. As you have said, her care is in the very best hands.

I am so happy with the news today! Thank you @Gerry for keeping us in the loop. I will think of @Really tomorrow and until you let us know that she made it through with flying colors. Has she started to receive cards yet?

@Gerry The wonderful, tender, loving way you write about Lee has me sitting here all teary-eyed while eating breakfast - tea, toast and teardrops :shuffle: but I'm so happy to read that Really really is still in there :) Thank you so much for taking time out to keep us all in the loop, Lee has been continually in my thoughts and sending good wishes for the operation tomorrow and her continued slow but sure improvement.
