Predict the 4 Olympics gold medalists

Pick the 4 Olympic Gold medalist (pick 1 per discipline)

I included the 4 men, 2 ladies, 2 pairs, and 2 dance teams that have a decent chance of winning. Pick 1 in each disicpline as the poll allows you to pick 4 choices.

My picks are Medvedeva, Savchenko & Massot, Fernandez, and Papadakis & Cizeron

Fernandez? Sounds like home cooking; just a blind spot maybe! :40beers: :saint: :yikes:

It's a toss up for me given the injuries which could affect the results if he/she can't skate to the best of their abilities. (Hanyu, Med, and S/M). P & C seem to have the momentum (earning more points than V & M recently).

Chen - fractional favourite due to GPF, his scores, and Hanyu being injured. But the Men category is just unpredictable, last results being Boyang wining 4CC and 300+ points. Never count Boyang Jin out by the way, he might just get on that podium.

Zagitova - If clean, she might destroy everyone on technical and rightfully so, but that is a big IF. That being said, her SP when clean is just wow.

Savchenko/Massot - they have the better programs this year (even if S/H have quite the amazing programs too) and especially the better LP, but can't afford mistakes. Neither do S/H. If both make mistakes, Candyman might show up.

Papadakis/Cizeron - again fractionnal favourite due to GPF, well-received programs too. Can't afford a single mistake or a loss of level, just like V/M.

A bit surprised to see Chen leading the poll. Personally I think a bit too much is made of his being unbeaten this season since it is mostly the mistakes and even absence of his competitors that has led to this.

Also a bit surprised to see Zagitova leading Medvedeva. I think too much is made of just 1 result (Europeans).

Really surprised to see Papadakis & Cizeron so far ahead of Virtue & Moir. I thought the poll would be a lot closer, particularly after how great V&M looked at Canadians which was far sharper than they looked at the GPF.

Time will tell though.

Dying for Chen to win so didn't pick him - Hanyu's a bit of a wildcard so I'm giving the edge to Javier since I like to support skaters from non-traditional skating countries. Although I have a sinking feeling that this may be the moment Kolyada hits everything and runs away with the gold :yikes:

Pairs - like both, S/M probably has the edge if they both skate well.

Dance - P/C. Their victory has been a done deal for a year and only a freak fall is going to keep them from it.

Ladies - now here it gets eeenteresting. Zag broke the sound barrier at Euros and the pendulum has definitively swung in her direction. She's much nervier than Med so going in with the pressure of being a front runner could be her undoing but the juges'll cushion her with inane GOE and PCS.

Predicting is hard, so here's who I want out of the realistic possibilities:

- Evgenia
- Nathan or Javier
- Savchenko/Massot
- Virtue/Moir

I feel like this year there are 2 favourites in every discipline except men, which is kind of a crapshoot.

Very accurate observation.

Pairs- S&H and S&M

Ice dance- P&C and V& M

Ladies- Medvedeva and Zagitova

Men- Chen, Jin, Uno, Fernandez, Hanyu (?), Chan(?)

It is going to be interesting because any of these Can (not Will) win the OGM, and there could still be surprises.

Well, 4cc was not a splatfest, maybe men will surprise us.
I believe the men's event is in the unpredictable category. Same goes for the ladies. It is very difficult to get a true sense of what might unfold, but, nonetheless – exciting! Men could surprise, but I kind of feel that all the disciplines could surprise, which is A-OK (y) by me.

Re: 4CC, that competition does tend to put skaters on the map that have had struggles or have been unable to maintain as high a profile as their teammates/competitors. 4CC exposure is a good thing in an Olympic year.
BTW, BEAUTIFUL avatar! Love it! :encore:

True, but I think the difficulty envelope has maybe been pushed a bit too much, too fast, for its own good. I would never want a return to 2010 with a winner not doing a quad decades after quads started becoming prominent.
I agree! And my wife does too! Quadless winners should be one of those things where the two words are opposites and make the meaning go away! It reminds me of that song "Ironic" by the woman who used to be married to Uncle Joey!

The new judging system is extremely horribly unjust! Look at what UR calls did to Galustyan during all of her career! And skaters like Joubert (even though my wife and I do not think he is elegant!) and Plushenko and Messing have been victims it is enough to make me want to bite my pillow!

I'm surprised anyone thinks Medvedeva will take gold. If Zagitova skates two clean programs, she wins. Her technical content is higher and there's no way the judges will give her 8's in PCS. There's simply no room for Medvedeva.

-Zagitova only skated 2 clean programs once all season. That was Europeans.
-Medvedeva still might have won Europeans if she didnt mess up her double axel in the short and have several tight landings in the long.
