She was 69 and an integral party of the Baby Boomer experience.

May she RIP.
I remember her most as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. An incredible performance.
Sad news.I watched The Patty Duke Show growing up (in syndication mostly) and was a big fan. So sad as she was so young.
RIP - I so admired her. Grew up with the Patty Duke show. Incredible actress. Amazing human. She could have wallowed in her tragedies, but did not. I will miss knowing she is in my world.Tony and US Academy Awards for that role, an Emmy for the US TV movie "My Sweet Charlie", and so many other wonderful performances, including IMHO "Valley of the Dolls" - though much maligned in the same way that Faye Dunaway's "Mommie Dearest" has been.
Her bravery in confronting and sharing her abuse during childhood by her agents/guardians, and her fierce advocacy for awareness of bipolar illness may be her finest contributions to society - along with her talented children Sean and Mackenzie Astin.
RIP.
I just checked. I probably watched it first run.The Patty Duke Show was originally shown way before I was born.
LOL! They walk and talk alike!Rob, we have cats that can pass for identical cousins.![]()
My absolute favorite Duke role was in "A Christmas Memory", Truman Capote's memoir about his youth and his beloved, older, slow and loving Sook. She was so touching in that wonderful, little Christmas film.
Two guys used to do this bad lounge singer act for fun at a few parties way back when. "The Patty Duke Show" theme was one of their best. The lyrics still make me smile thinking about it.
Meet Cathy, who's lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty's only seen the sight.
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights --
What a crazy pair!
But they're cousins,
Identical cousins all the way.
One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day.
Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russes, and crepe suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control --
What a wild duet!
Still, they're cousins,
Identical cousins and you'll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike --
You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind.
