Two words: closed captioning

ETA or that one word? Closed-captioning?

Two words, I think.

Either way, I almost always watch shows with closed captioning. My favorite ones I'll watch twice, the first time without the captions to enjoy the full impact of the visuals, the second time with captions, to catch any dialogue I may have missed.

Good Girls on Netflix is really good! I love the actresses and the writing is good as well.

I never watch actual TV with ads, I just wait till it comes out somewhere commercial-free.

The DCEU’s Titans is now available on Netflix internationally. I am really loving what I see so far despite a couple problems.

Everything Sucks! is very sweet - it's about teens and two of their families. We watched the first episode and it was a little iffy, but by episode 2 we were hooked. The teens are really likable. It's a Netflix Original.

What I've watched on Netflix in the past few weeks :

Holding the Man : Gay love story. At first, I thought "Quite unattractive guys with weird haircuts" but then as the characters grow, I felt for them and their story. It made me quite depressed by the end.

Handsome Devil : Nicholas Galitzine is handsome <3

King Cobra : A movie about porn stars but showing no dong ?!! Let Down !

Dumplin' : I liked it.

Bird Box : I found it quite boring. And Olympia (Dumplin's Danielle Macdonald) is the worst character ever.

Sex & Love around the world : It really was not just about sex !

Switched : I totally binge watched this Japanese drama.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt : Currently binge watching it. Loved the 1st season. The beginning of the second season isn't as strong.

Also, finally made it to the end of Meteor Garden : Gosh, I thought it would never end.

I'm on like the last ten episodes and have been for like 3 months now. I am struggling finishing it. My issue with these Chinese/Taiwanese shows is that they all should end like 10 episodes before they do. They drag things out for no reason.

We're watching Vanity Fair on Amazon Prime, and I've found it pretty diverting. The cast is good, and the action moves along pretty quickly. Also, Olivia Cooke does a really good job with the role of oft-unlikable Becky Sharpe. I think it's the first adaptation I've seen of the book (which I read years ago), and I feel like it gets the flavor of it pretty right. Good production values, too.

In the last week I've just discovered The Good Place on Netflix. (Yeah, I'm a little bit behind the times). I'm almost through season 2 and so far it's becoming one of my all-time favorite shows. Some parts are laugh-out-loud funny, some heartfelt, but I'm finding it relentlessly optimistic, too, in all the best ways possible, which is really refreshing. Plus there have been so many good twists!

The principal cast of 6 are all SO good, and I'm kind of obsessed with Janet. I just assumed this was a Netflix show, but just saw this in on NBC. I barely ever watch broadcast TV any more (and cable is long gone), but I'm pleasantly surprised a show of this quality is still on broadcast television.

I took a really long time to watch that show too. I read the synopsis and was just not interested even though EVERYONE was telling me I should. It’s soooo good. I’m so glad my sister in law basically forced me to watch it

I don't know why people are reluctant to watch The Good Place. No one at work watches it either but I know they would love it.

Definitely on my all-time favorite list of shows. I don't know how many seasons they can keep the story line going and still make sense but I will follow it faithfully to the end.

It’s amazing. The main cast is all incredible and it should get so much more critical love than it does. D’arcy Carden was incredible in the recent episode with all the Janets. Give her an Emmy! But Kristen Bell is the one who holds it all together. Love her.

I watched the first couple episodes when it first came out, but it didn't grab me.

Maybe it appeals to a selective taste.

I think it takes a few episodes to get going. But when it does, it’s incredible.

I think this is probably the reason more aren't watching. Looking back I did have it on more as background noise but it just got better and better until I was completely hooked.

I watch it! And I love it. I don't know if it is exactly my "all time" favorite shows, but definitely one of my favorite shows of the past five years. (Orphan Black being the other - how is that for contrast?)

Yeah... I watched the pilot in real time and it didn't catch my attention, but then after so many people were raving about it, and went back and watched the first season when it became available on Netflix. Binged the whole season in 2 nights.

It IS my favorite show!!!!!!! I fell in love with it on Hulu and my daughter joined in on season 2. Then season 1 was nowhere until Netflix picked it up. If you all like the show, you will LOVE the podcast. It is a discussion of each episode with Sean and usually a mix of 2 characters/writers/costume designer/art dept etc. You really get a deep appreciation for every forking element. It is a masterpiece.

I loved seasons one and two but I've felt hesitant about Season Three b/c I'm skeptical about the premise. Is it worth watching? Make sure to put any details in spoilers for those who don't want to see!

I'm really trying to hold off on watching season 3, so I don't consume the entire series in like a week. It hasn't been easy. :drama:

Thanks! I'll definitely check these out. I've already watched the Comicon panel discussions on youtube, so needless to say, I'm hooked. :p

Same!

I watched You on Netflix. It's a series about a stalker from the stalker's point of view. I didn't think I would like this but I ended up watching it all in 2 evenings.

He's just creepy and completely clueless about his own actions while condemning the same behavior in others. I had to watch to see how it would all end.

There is a conclusion to the season 1 storyline but it led into a season 2 opening. I think I would watch that if it's ever made and released.

It's creepy and disturbing but good. So all in all I think I could recommend this show as worth watching.

Sorry for the late reply. Like season 1, it took a while for season 3 to hit it's real pace. I didn't know where it was going at first but it was still funny. And now I can see where they can keep this show going forever. So to answer your questions. Yes. It's worth watching.

Ok, you all have convinced me to watch The Good Place! Just finished The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, which I generally enjoyed, and The Americans before that (loved!), so was I sure what to watch next!

Carmen Sandiego was my favorite thing from the time I was 6 till I was a teenager. I had every book, saw every episode of every series, and owned every piece of memorabilia that existed.

So of course, I was highly anticipating the new Carmen cartoon series on Netflix, that released this morning. It’s been 25 years since the first animated series debuted. Even though it’s geared towards a younger audience, I wanted the nostalgia to be there and all of the preview articles stated as much. Unfortunately they’ve turned Carmen into a good person, working against her former organization to steal back from the ‘bad guys’. The first two episodes are the whole backstory of how she got to where she is- and it doesn’t match any of the many storylines they had going in the past. I don’t like the direction they decided to go at all, but I’ll still stay loyal and finish the series.

That's so disappointing! I loved Carmen as she was and the cast of characters she had working for her. I loved the PBS game show and animated series. I even played the computer game. Carmen Sandiego was the reason I was so good at geography in elementary school which got me some praise from my teacher as a 2nd grader who could name all the states and some countries just by the shape which lead me to ultimately minoring in geography in college. I even asked for a comprehensive World atlas with information about various countries for Christmas when I was middle school. I like to think it was all because of Carmen.

I started watching Derry Girls and I have to say my absolute favorite is Sister Michael.

Favorite quote from Season 1, Episode 6 with the eye roll before she says it.
You know, every year I sit backstage listening to the singers, and it really makes me realize just how talented the professionals who originally recorded these tracks were.

I love her. You have to love her facial expressions even when she isn't speaking.

Does anyone know if it's possible to download Hulu shows to watch on an airplane? I saw an article from last year that said this functionality would be available soon, but I don't see the option in my Hulu account.
